We will take a look at a massive list of 50 PS3 games running on the ASUS ROG Ally and will serve as a demonstration of some of the capabilities of the AMD Z1 Extreme and the Ally when it comes to Playstation 3 emulation. Great video, thank you for the coverage. Just some notes on settings as some of them aren't correct:
Gran Turismo 5: (19:32) Doesn't require Write Color Buffers and will run faster with it off. Changing Zcull Accuracy won't matter either as you already disabled Zcull occlusion queries on the debug settings. We also recommend not updating the game to 2.00 or later because it makes the game run a bit slower. If you want faster performance you can set the "default resolution" to 1920x1080 and use strict rendering mode. It wont use as much anti-aliasing and will run faster than 1280x720 while looking better.
Tales of Xillia: (36:32) The game does actually require a specific setting, it needs the framelimiter set to "PS3 Native", if its not set the game-speed will run incorrectly (fast/slow motion), which can be seen in your footage.
LittleBigPlanet Karting: (26:26) We don't recommend using "Force GPU Texture Scaling" (actually shouldn't be used on any game as it doesn't improve performance, and can break graphics in some cases this is why we hid the setting to the debug tab.

Where can I find the ideal settings for each individual PS3 game ? On RPCS3 Wiki ?
@@RPCS3_emuIt would be really cool if, instead of having to check the wiki for the right settings for every game, the emulator automatically applied the correct settings profile to each game. Is there any reason why that wouldn't work?
@@MrGamelover23 these game-specific options are undesirable most of the time - shortcuts to account for deficiencies. As the development progresses and emulator is improved, the options become unnecessary and even harmful. Imagine the effort required to keep compatibility database up-to-date with every single emulator release

i upgraded the ssd to 1 tb and i have not had any issues. I have over 30 games on there and still so much space. I sold my steam deck as i was not playing it as much anymore. The ally is great@@SupremeJarJar

Yea, the Z1 Extreme is a step forward for PS3 emulation because of its support for AVX 512 instructions. We're getting really close on some of the heavier games!

It's interesting what you said about Ratchet and clank. When I play it for PS2 on the Retroid 3+ the PAL version will go from 50 to 25 fps on its own but the gameplay remains smooth.

Great showcase. I own a physical copy of Gundam ExVs but I would love to play it on a handheld. I was wondering how this runs on the ally cause I've seen videos of it on steam deck and it wasn't running smoothly enough. Good to know that this handles it at 15w. Would you consider doing short showcases of Gundam Unicorn or Gundam Breaker 1 & 2 ? These 3 are all JP exclusives. I'm thinking of taking the plunge and getting an ally to play these gundam games on a handheld.
This is like a dream. Only flaw of those handhelds is battery life.

I’d recommend using Xenia for top spin 4. As simple as downloading iso and Xenia and just playing. No bios or firmware or file format to worry about. It also runs better and has more camera options
I love playing EX Troopers on the 3DS. Lost Planet 2…..there’s nothing like it. Playing it on ROG would be epic.
Amazing vid, however on hand I understand that some games that weren't exclusive aren't here, but on the other hand games like Captain America, Green Lantern or Thor, this games were exclusive to ps3 in terms modern platforms exclusivity (xbox 360/windows/ps3), and only had releases on old consoles and/or portables, which don't really compare.

multi-platform exclusives (didn't get released on PC but on 360/PS3).

Agreed, not a fan of anything proprietary! The XG Mobile eGPUs are so damn expensive.
I have been enjoying my Ally immensely. This is what I always wanted out of a Handheld ever since I got a PSP back in high-school. It feels so much better than using a phone or even a laptop and it's so much more convenient than desktop.

Hi Thanks for an amazing video, it got me setup and working, I tried out Wipeout HD, did you notice that the device gets very hot or fans go into overdrive? I am wondering if this kind of emulation has any concerns in the long run on the health of the device. Thanks.

What TDP are you using when playing Wipeout HD? Are you plugged in when playing? Turbo mode will get the device hot especially when plugged in since it's drawing a ton of power.
I'd recommend to set your custom profiles for power or just use the 15w preset which should be good enough for Wipeout HD and is the one I used in my gameplay footage. It will stutter initially because of shader compilation but that's normal.
@@retrotechdad Thank you! Yeah I was in Turbo mode, I assumed that might make the shader compilation faster. Also today I did some of the optimisation like the windows memory one and the vram allocation, that has seemed to help the device a lot at 15w. I was having a lot of trouble running street fighter 6 even at 720p low but those optimisations for now seemed to have helped. Amazing, thank you so much for your hard work and getting back to me. Yes, you can definitely get Midnight Club: Dub Edition going on your Ally. It was available on PSP and PS2. I recommend looking into the PCSX2 or PPSSPP emulator for PC.

Great video! It's quite depressing that there's still no way to play/own God of War Ascension, Twisted Metal and MGS4 on anything other than original hardware. PS Plus Premium is a ripoff. I just want to buy those games for modern systems.
This is why RPCS3 is so important for just preservation alone. It's even worse when it comes to all of the digital only releases. 🙏
@@retrotechdad 100 Percent. Just think about the Pac Man DLC for Hot Shots Golf that was Japan exclusive and is not available any more or how long we had to wait for a physical version of Scott Pilgrim.

What are your Rog Ally settings? I mean the GPU settings? Is it on Auto, 4G, ....?

I try to call out the virtual keyboard and press crtl + s, it will stop the game instead of save the state
how do you get Heavenly Sword to run without it freezing up randomly? I tried this game on so many different PCs, handhelds, etc. and they all have that problem where the game would just freeze up at the most random scenes.
Yea, unfortunately that's just how it is with certain games regardless of the kind of PC you're using. It's a limitation of the emulation with RPCS3.
What's your observation about the battery life when running heavy emulator like this?
It will mostly be dependent on the TDP settings being used, which I covered in my review video here: ruclips.net/video/RXwxz6vWGhs/видео.html
For the standard presets expect about 3 hours or so for 10watts, 2 hours for 15w, and about an hour for 25w.

I'd think so, the specs don't look too steep on it. I'd have to try it out myself of course but I don't see why not. 💪
do you have 50 cent blood on the sand. If so hows the fps. on steam deck it deeps in to like 12 to 15 fps alot.

I’m having an issue in using the Rog ally game pad. I can’t get past a certain part before the menu of gundam extreme versus as it needs me to push a button to continue to the game and the Rog game pad doesn’t seem to work on the game please help😢
