- In this video I will show you how I prepare my pots for bisque and glaze fire - and fire them so they all come out right.
And not only that, I will show you how I do it fast - the most efficient way, and manage to load 110 cups and 9 bowls in ONE kiln load (190 liter top loader).

Folk Art Guild White is gorgeous colour, it breaks so beautifully over textured work
Sure do :-)
WOW!!! Very efficient with your time, space and materials. Beautiful pots. How does the raw clay on the outside work with functional dinnerware. Is it harder to clean?
Thanks :-)
When the clay is fired to glaze temp it is fully vitrified. That makes it water proof and easy to clean.
@@deMibPottery thanks so much
When I want a "splattering", I dip a toothbrush in the liquid, and run my finger over the bristles (it makes a huge mess, and a lovely splatter), might work for your sodium? Love the purple cups, what a beautiful color, and of course the temaku gold is always gorgeous. One question, is there a reason you don't use wax when you want those clean lines? Have fun at the craft event. Thank you for the video. Be well.
Thanks :-)
I use a toothbrush too for some applications but in case on the soda I did not want splattering :-)
I also use wax for some applications but I was too lazy for it this time and I do also like the more free form lines I get without for pots like this.
Thank you so much for this very interesting and detailed video! I noticed that your kiln is outside, almost open air. Is it not effected in performance during a cold winter?
Thanks a lot :-)
The kiln is protected from rain and snow (if any) by the roof and walls but the shed is, off course, not heated. However, with these new kilns, that are so well insulated I hardly see any difference from summer to winter. It works really well. Bu, we also do not have very hard winters here.
I am happy to get 2 or 3 good looking pots from a kiln load of perhaps 20. For you to get over 100 is fantastic.
But if I were able to make that many then what would I do with them?
Selling them would turn a just for fun no pressure hobby into a business with all the complications that brings so I just give them away to friends and neighbors.
Thanks :-)
Så fina resultat! Vad är det för lera du hade på den gula koppen och vad är det för svart lera du använder. Var köper du dem ifrån? Gillar dina videos och att du alltid experimenterar.
Mange tak :-)
Det er 3 forskellige ler jeg bruger her. De to sorte er ST06 fra 9Glazes og 571 fra Silica. Den grå er 12685 fra Cerama.
Thank you very much for this video! In fact, thank you for all of your videos! I really enjoy them a lot. May I ask to which temperature you bisque fire? Here in Germany most potters advise to bisque fire to around 950°C but most of the US web sites tell you to bisque to 1050°C. That's quite the difference. Lately I noticed some bubbles in my clear glazes and also some coloured ones. I don't really believe they're coming from a wrong bisque firing but some potters told me that it's possible and to be honest, I'm running out of ideas...
Thanks a lot :-)
I bisque to 950 and 1000 C depending on clay and application.
I do not think your bubbles is due to bisque temp but is more likely an issue with glazes that do not fit the clay - or some issue with how you apply it.
Wow! How incredible! What size shelves do you use in your kiln? I make large mugs and cups so I can’t fit very many in there at a time but I’ve found that many people prefer larger mugs so that works for me!!
Thanks. The shelfes are 52 cm
@@deMibPottery wow! I have the same size kiln shelves and I can’t fit anywhere near that on mine, but as I said I make very big mugs!
Most of these ones are sort of mid-sized. Also, I put them very close to each other. With the glazes I use that is fine
is the tenmoku your recipe
No, its from John Britts midfire book
Soda evaporates, aren't you afraid it will ruin your killn?
Yes, so I only tried a couple of cups :-)
