I was a martial arts instructor for almost 3 years. Learned a lot of stuff. Not just the art but how to teach it. This guy is a fantastic teacher. He knows thoroughly the direction he’s trying to get you to go, outlines steps to get there clearly, and keeps the energy high so it’s fun. Can’t ask for much more in an instructor.
What a humbling experience this was. Starting to feel confident in my boxing ability, although I've only been throwing combos at dust in my room or on a bag that can't hit back. I was lucky if I blocked any of the overhands or hooks, you'd have run me over in sparring. This was important, I need to work on my defence!
YES!! Thank You! I need more practice sparring. I am a beginner, but have been following your channel for about a year. I did not start boxing until I was about 52. But, I have worked manual labor all my life, and I can really throw some shots. I sparred three rounds with a guy a few months ago, who had 10 professional fights, and he really clobbered me. He picked through all my defenses, and countered all my offenses. Your videos help my footwork and defense.
With the youtube virtual reality feature it makes this 10x more real, though it can never replace full sparring it can get you used to having someone in front of you
These are my favorite videos. I play this video on my laptop eye level and work on my punches, slips, and reactions. Excellent workout without the soreness you get after sparing. Plus no CTE for us older folks which is a good plus.
Yes! I’ve been looking for exactly this type of thing, can’t wait to give it a run through tomorrow. (Edit) Thanks for another wicked training session coach! I know it’s no substitute for actual sparring but it’s so useful to have something to react to.
This is a great way to learn set ups and how to feint as a shorter fighter if you learn nothing else from getting beat, lol. Thank you for this type of video. It helps out as someone who is shorter.
Sup JT, just thought I'd chime in from from down under in NZ. Been in lockdown for the past 3 weeks and all of your videos have kept my mind and body sane with stuff to work on and learn from. Really appreciate your dedication to the craft! Chur brother
The gyms are still closed here in NJ so I'm doing everything I can in my living room. These videos and the padwork videos are a fantastic supplement to your training when you're training at home alone. I'm able to keep my skills fresh and my cardio is starting to improve after months of doing nothing. Please keep making these videos, they're a lifesaver.
@@JoseGonzalez-gg6rs Yeah this is my favorite boxing channel. I used to train Muay Thai, Kali, and jiu jitsu at Bergen County BJJ in Ramsey. The gym is open now but they're only doing virtual classes and non contact group classes. I bought a double end bag and slip bag to train in my apartment for now. Are you from NJ?
@@JoseGonzalez-gg6rs Yeah true. I workout at home everyday now, and I used to hate training at home, also boxing is perfect when you're alone and don't have a lot of space. Are you a boxer?
I did a little bit of boxing many years ago, so I decided to loook for something boxing related to keep me in shape. This was a great find on RUclips. Keep up the great work!
i've been training boxing since september 2019 so im pretty new at this and your videos humble me couse they make me realise that i've got a lot to learn. It is very hard for me to keep up with you, plus i'm already 28 and had been doing nothing but gyming for like 6 years before i started boxing and sometimes i think that it's too late for me to get good at it, but im not giving up yet so keep doing what you are doing becouse it is very helpful. Thank you
This is the best virtual sparring I've found on RUclips. Thanks👊. I'd like to see a sparring video where.. 1. You are being evasive 2. Lightning round, your just letting your hands go and we have to see, punch and counter 3. Where you work on faking us out before throwing. I loved those uppercuts, most videos are just head shots. I had to watch myself even when I got low for you.
Thanks for puttin' in this work man... I'm using these videos for virtual teaching with PE. They give me so much to work with. You're a great trainer. Thank you.
This is so much fun, thank you. It’s very challenging because it’s hard to measure distance coming in and out like in real life, it felt like being stuck in the pocket :)
When I saw the title I thought "No way, you can't imitate a real sparring through a video". It's actually pretty good ! I shadowboxed a little bit with it. But still... I'm used to seeing (and feeling ahah) real punches so when I see them through a video, my reflexes just don't kick in... That's a good idea though and it's better than nothing ! Thanks.
That was an awesome workout. Get channel. What supplemental exercises or workouts do you recommend in between boxing training days? Can you make a video in that?
Very new to the game always loved boxing and decided to start at 36yo - 8 months of training and C19 struck putting a lot of what you can do in boxing to a halt so this is a godsend. I’ve maybe done forty rounds sparring total and nobody I sparred against threw combos or moved their head like this thank god 😂😂 I reckon I slipped one punch out of all four rounds then just got bashed up for the rest. Gonna keep trying though I’ve had too long out.
This is awesome. You should consider getting a 360-degree camera so that people can wear their phone and practice you coming at them at different angles
Love the videos. Can you incorporate targeted strikes with the defense? So leave openings and in post production add a target to that spot. Thanks, love the channel!
Hey Hallo. Super Video. Ich wünsche mir noch ein Video in dem jeder Stoß einzelnd erklärt wird. Auch Tiefschläge. Zbs dreimal sehr langsam und dann dreimal schnell. Danke dir
I really like how you switched to southpaw not because of the changing opponent style which is useful but just so I could mirror you for a round, as if you are a mirror of an orthodox stance. Maybe you could do a sparring drills video like this in future? Just a suggestion. Thanks!
Thank you for this excellent virtual sparring video, Coach Jay Van. It’s my honest opinion, but for us boxers, especially with the COVID19 still causing our gyms to be temporarily closed, training in our garages, running (roadwork), and Precision Striking videos are our best training tools- even when we are able to get back to our gyms. It’s also my opinion, shadow boxing is always the foundation of the boxer’s training. We must do this a lot. If you are able to do another virtual sparring video (10 rounds with more southpaw and pressure fighting- like rounds 3& 4) and/or a shadow boxing video (like the 4 rounder you did) that would be awesome. Sincerely, Jeff “Rattlesnake” Railey 5X Champion Masters Amateur Boxer
Hi JT, i really really apreciate this virtual sparring videos, and surprised by the southpaw and inside rounds!!! I wonder if you can put the camera a little bit upright so we can saw a little bit of your hips so can see the movement of your foorwork to learn to see those movements too (sorry for my english JT , hope you undersood) . But anyways it is really helpfull to practice ! Thanks so much!!
Now I’m not a beginner I find value in this type of video for all the reasons you gave plus it helps keep your work rate honest. Takes shadow boxing up a level 👌
man that was impressive ! i learnt just watching ! it is very helpful ! thanks man ! a suggestion maybe is if some go pro camera can be attached to something that moves when hit so it replicates a persons head movement when hit ? ....thanks again
Big fan of these videos really handy right now. Can u please do a round where you are more elusive like an opponent trying to stay away from u. Thanks 👌
Great for home training, maybe so role plays. For example, you be the long range taller boxer so us shorter guys can counter and pressure and vice versa.
Jt, what do tou think of world class boxing videos, he teaches old schoold fundamentals, like dont lean instead twist the punches, have a heal to toe stance with the foot plant on the ground. I have been working on this, mainly i lean on the jab sometimes.
yo! jt! you think you could do a training video where you throw the same combos over and over? similar to working the pads? that way we can work on our counters to "precision striking" ! (see what i did there?) love the vids btw. dont think i wouldve been any good if it wasnt for your in depth training!
Is it normal to have 2 black eyes after this?
LOL!! I caught myself with an uppercut.
You were supposed to dodge the punches !
I got dq'd for low blows.
Martial Lee - Vegan Roundhouse Kicks lol hitting yourself definitely could happen
lol
Bruh i knew it was over when he slipped my entire combo and hit me with that 1-2-1
same lmao he wouldve already whooped me in the beginning
I was doing a lot of counter punches, I wish somebody was counting how many I dodged, and how many hits.
@@Swiperhelper I beat him or Ko him by decision my friends 🥂
This is just so useful to watch. I could feel myself getting caught, which is just sick for learning
All of our reactions (flinches , fakes , weaves and “I got scared” ) build the natural ability to work on our skills.
