+Alex Penney Its an all time classic - you may have seen the scene Jack Nicholson with an axe breaking a door down in hotel "it's Johnny" - must watch. Stanley Kubrick film. Must watch, Home Alone 2 Hotel Manager 100% relevant...
Thanks Raj! Always wondered what this hotel would look like. Checked out the place myself a couple of years ago (in order to see if I would stay there) and only got to see a bit. I was told quite harshly that, if I was't a guest, I couldn't enter the garden etc. Felt very rude by the way. Was at JBR (Beach Village) exactly a year ago (dec 5th). The construction on the biggest ferris wheel on the planet (visible to your left from the south wing of the hotel) seems to be moving ahead steadily. Langham hotel on the Palm (next to One and Only) too. Did you walk 'The Walk'? It starts right in front of your hotel. It used to be the greatest boulevard of Dubai but the connection ('see throughs) t'o the sea get lost through overdeveloping the area which perhaps makes it loose some of its flavor. None the less, you might like it (about a 20 minute walk). Have fun man, keep 'm coming and DON'T be intimidated by security. You're shooting a video for friends and family back home. Who can be against that? Cheers!
+Hajo Theunissen Hi Hajo, yah its a nice part of town. I didn't do the walk - in some ways rushed holiday. Hence hotel vids in early morning. Happy I saw Lewis and Mercedes win F1 2015 Abu Dhabi F1; also cricket matches there. Activity every day, and different hotel every day. Rushed and enjoyed. A hotel is a public building, best way to enter gardens is to make a reservation at restaurant there. I tried to go to Burj Al Arab on this holiday - staying at Jumeirah Al Qasr - Buggy at entrance refused to take me without a reservation - same hotel chain I'm guest at. Hotels can be funny such, and rude at the time as you say... Always good to discuss UAE hotels with a fellow knowledgeable traveller... Best regards Hajo. Raj
Raj! Hotels can be funny at such...yes! But it's also a GOOD hotel that 1) Doesn't get overcrowded (like Ritz at JBR and Zabeel Saray Palm, Atlantis Palm, etc.) in the first place (luxury is being NOT overcrowded) 2) Have some flair in explaining travelers that- when a place is crowded, e.g. through wedding or something of the sort, this perhaps isn't the right time to visit. So, the above mentioned are not the true Grand hotels that I'm interested in. Your vid of the One and Only maybe is - looks like it - have to check it out myself. Next time I'm in Dubai I'm interested to see the Waldorf, the new Kempinski (current one -Residences Palm- is so so) and of course the Langham. In one of your vids you utter that the hotel is Grand. I Think it was the One and Only (or one in Abu Dhabi). I agreed from what I could see on the screen. Yes, you had an eventful trip my man. Well done. Next one again this eventful, or also some layback time? Yours in traveling spirit, H.
I love your reviews. Keep up the good work! God bless
