The story of Salil Choudhury in the USA playing Surbahar in a musical shop was viral in whatsapp ! But may not be historically true! However the talent of Salil Choudhury as a music director and lyricist in bengali and Indian music will be remembered forever! Any music lover can identify Salil Choudhury tune in his innumerable compositions easily by the unmistakable signature of the maestro! His prelude and interlude music composition is still admired ! 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Annu ji, At that time Bengalies have the tremendous contribution in hindi film. Bengali director, music director, script writer, camera man & in all the fields enriched the indian culture in abroad too. Annu ji, you are a truly talented person. I am your fan.
This is a well known fake story. His daughter Antara Chowdhury already declared this story is fake. But the story is well fed, even to the authentic platforms.
A great legend like Salil Chowdhury (salil da)doesn’t need these fake stories to be glorified. These people are making these stories for their own benefit, not to praise the talent.
Home Stories Of India Stories Of India Fascinating True Story of A Lata Mangeshkar Song Born In A Los Angeles Music Shop By Narrenaditya Komaragiri - January 27, 2015 I have written this story, that is based entirely on my imagination, with the sole intention of giving some fascinating moments to the fans of Bollywood music more so to the fans of the legendary Salil Chowdhury, of whom am a big fan.. However, without understanding what am trying to say some people have raised objections to this story.. Although am not bothered much about their comments, I have however decided to remove this story from the site, with all due respects to the family of Salil Da, when his son Sanjoy Chowdhury himself had asked me to remove it.. Regret the inconvenience caused. Regards Narrenaditya Komaragiri
I wish Anu Kapoor & his research team double-checked facts. The anecdote about Salil Chowdhury is incorrect at so many levels: * In the late 50-s, film personalities did not visit USA. (they used to frequently visit Russia, instead). * Salil Chowdury's first visit to the USA was in the 80-s. (to visit his son, who was settled there). * Even if Indians were present in USA, the West Coast area did not have any significant population of Indians in the late 50-s, for a music shop to stock Indian musical instruments... that too, a rarely played instrument like a *surbahar*. There was no Silicon Valley, then. And no Shrimati's in California... * Barring Ravi Shankar, no sitar player was popular in the USA in the 50-s. Even Ravi Shankar doesn't represent a gharana of Surbahar players. (Vilayat Khan & Imrat Khan hail from a Gharana of surbahar players). * A surbahar is *not* called a 'surbahar-sitar'... Just plain 'surbahar'. (Just like a cello is not called a cello-violin or a rabaab is not called a rabaab-sarod). * Salil Chowdhury, while knowing how to play a plucked string instrument like a sitar, wasn't very proficient at it. He was more adept in playing the flute (& the esraj & piano / harmonium). This baseless story has been doing the rounds via the internet for years now... Anu Kapoor & his research team ought have seen through this & not stoked this fairy tale any further. :)
Dear Mr. ANNU KAPOOR, Namaskar! I don't know you Sir, therefore, what I am about to say to you is not personal, rather for the best for your Radio (92.7 BIG FM) station. Please! do not mislead your listeners by broadcasting fictitious stories. What you said about the great Salil Chowdhury is nothing but a pack-of-lie, a made-up story, Yes! story (Not facts). My request to you Sir, please, get your facts straight prior to broadcasting.
What asinine rubbish. This is a complete fake story. Salil Chowdhury went to the US, but in the 1980s. And he was not a sitarist, forget being a surbahar player. This is fake news and should be taken off.

You are absolutely right. It is so disgusting !! Salil Sir visited US for the first time in the year 1981 , I guess.
Yes without fact checking, such erroneous and misleading narration of fictitious story is unbecoming of a stalwart like Annuji.
Na Jeo Na ka woh sitar part sun k Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan sahib milna chah reh the aur Salilda se mile, bahut ashirvaad diya tha Calcutta meiN.
The sitar passage of 'ne jeo-na' was played by a musician named Jairam Acharya.
Typically, composers of a song do not sit among the team of musicans.
@@ArchismanMozumder yes but Ustad jee wanted to meet the composer so he did.
@@JaydeepSinha Ok, I see.
The story about "O Sajna" is wrong.I dont know how these stories are airing, which are sending wrong messege about the legend Salil Chowdury.
GREAT..SIMPLY..GREAT.... Today Remembering KAMLA GOKHLE..REALLY GREAT 👍. ANNU KAPUR ..HATS OFF TO YOU...✅
