On 03/11/11 in Japan when the big earthquake hit, payphones were the only way to communicate. Hawaii should repair some of those payphones and keep them around for emergencies
Yep, I have a copper land line here in Los Angeles for that reason too. Power goes down on that I can provide power to my own tel line and call out anyway.
Not too long ago. My cell phone died, thankfully I’ve upgraded. I went into a little shopping mall in Moiliili and asked them if they had a payphone. The girls behind the counter said, “what’s a payphone?” I actually had the gall to describe it. They looked at each other and said we don’t know what that is. OOF. OUCH. I looked at an older guy sitting there waiting for his food, and he just shook his head and smiled at me. But even in as much as they are from the Stone Age, I still think that some should be in strategic spots near dark areas of beaches, dark alleys, highways, or anywhere someone might be needing assistance. They should be free to those calling 911. Their lights can also serve as a beacon of safety. Or is a beacon of safety, a thing of the past too?
They should make a law to incorporate pay phones in all lobbies of condos, malls, and state buildings. Outside pay phones will get vandalized and cell phones has reliability problems.
It is a raggedy looking device isn’t it? But many of them should be refurbished into good working order. These ugly old things have rescued a great number of people, maybe even save lives of people who are stranded. It’s a terrible feeling to be alone and not being able to communicate with someone to get help. They still should exist on highways, bus stops, near schools, around some freeways. 911 calls should be free.

The rail has little public value. We used trains 100 years ago. Convert the railway to ebike lane. Ebike is the future.
Well, what’s the difference between a pay phone and a call box?
My company will remove them for $250,000 thats cheap.
This will happen with CASH eventually. Don’t use it, you’ll loose it
Okay? Now what?
