I was born & raised in West Covina. I didn't know about this cemetery until the early 1980's. My friends and I went a couple of times at night. It wasn't scary until this one particular time that we heard something in the bushes. We ran so fast over the railroad tracks and down that path which seemed to take forever to get to the street. It felt as if something was close behind us. I no longer live in the area but sure hope there is a volunteer group maintaining it. So sad that some people have no respect for another person's gravesite. And all that tagging. I don't remember any of that. Thank you for the video even if it is over 6 yrs ago, lol.
Just so you know there are quite a few EVPs in your videos. Most are undecipherable but here are a few: @7:55 a little girl can be heard saying "momma," @8:08 "I'm up," @8:26 "cottonwood", @8:34 "died", 9:37 "momma", @11:27 "get out of here", @13:02 "help me". I would suggest that you ask random questions and then wait for an answer since the dead are never really gone and cemeteries always have a lot of ghost hanging around. cool video too. :)
I read an article that the poker card players that got caught cheating would get shot on the spot and buried at Spadra. When the Sycamore inn was famous. Some of these killed were unknown.
In the early to mid 80s, I used to ride the RTD bus from my native Orange County to Lanterman Hospital where I got off and walked along the tracks to downtown Pomona. I loved spending the day photographing trains there. Once or twice I explored the Spadra Cemetery being careful not to touch anything. Back then, I dont remember any vandalized headstones or graffiti. I do remember the Kepner name, however. Always wondered about the history. I always suspected there must've been some importance to Spadra as Harbor Blvd in the OC used to be known as Spadra Rd.
Thank you so much for this Video. I lived in Pomona westmont area and drove past the Philip house everyday on my way to work.Love the history I wish I would have know about the cemetery, would have loved to visit.Thank u again for the tour.
Louis Phillips was the the man who built and owned the Phillips Mansion, during his lifetime he was the wealthiest person in Los Angeles county. This cemetery first opened the long before the railroad and freeways were built. Sad to see it's current state of neglect.
I would totally love to go on an adventure with you one day I'm a big fan of azusa canyons I really enjoy learning about history of the west thanks for the great videos I subscribed to your channel good stuff man keep it up !!!
Its mark as an "Unknown" grave because back especially during the '80s, a lot of these tombstones were stolen. Although some where recovered, some in pieces, some were never found. However there is still someone buried there. They just don't know who anymore at this point. Also some tombstones are in cement now because those were the one's found after being stolen.
My grand uncle Ralph Winebrenner is buried there. He was living in Pomona at the time and died in 1964 which is the year that the city took over, I believe I read. I guess he has no marker. Interesting to see the inside view.
Yes he found the city. He found it with constructed buildings intact. "Founded" They mean it literally. Pay attention to the old buildings with half the windows underground. They're not basements. It's the first floor of the building. Open your eyes and look very closely and you'll begin to see the building is buried underground. You'll see it. You just need to look. You'll see they (us) built stairs that are actually going into the 2nd floor of the building not the first. You have ALL been lied to about our true history. Capitol buildings, Court houses, Universities, High Schools, Libraries, Post Offices, Churches, YMCA's, Asylums. All built by the previous civilization. We cannot build these structures today.
This is a great video! I am the co-founder of a very new paranormal research group. Would the Pomona Historical Society be open to do a private investigation with our team? The cemetery and the Phillips mansion looks like it would be amazing to investigate.
@@Cheri1x can you tell me what you experienced? I love to hear personal encounters. We've been there twice now, but nothing happened. Except we got some interesting readings on our ovilus.
C Gallagher I went there once Once last year and we tried to go around the gate (the short way) and we heard growling in the bushes ! My friends and I were stubborn and still went the longer way (the way videoed above). I was terrified with my friend, however, nothing too bad happened this time, but me and two of my friends heard a Victorian lady crying for sure. We had seen enough and on our way out we see the skeleton of a vulture, not just decomposed but BLEACHED perfectly no skin on the bone at ALL. We left safely, but what really made me not to ever want to go again was what my friends experienced a week ago
Are tours ever allowed? I have been wanting to visit here. I think it is terribly sad how these were once somebody's loved ones and now they are forgotten.
Cemetery is now completely overgrown. Seems the historical society is unable to maintain the grounds. Transients in the area. Would not advise venturing on your own... unless you're packing heat like this guy mentioned.
When was that cemetery closed down? I see a couple of markers from the 1940's and 1950's? Or is it like the old Capistrano cemetery: Where only people who can trace their roots back, to the early days (of Capistrano) can be buried there. From what I understand. And that Mansion looks like the Munster's house. LOL.
The cemetary of Spadra was annexed to the city of Pomona in 1960. I don't think any other buriels there after that time. Wasn't able to find any specific close dates.

The railroads were already here. Trust me.

Very cool video. We almost went inside the cemetery today but it was a bit dark and I was afraid to run into taggers or transients.
Kool lil spooky place got to visit this place as a kid

How about doing tour of Phillips mansion. I curious what looks inside.
They don't have tours very often but I am planning on it.

From the little I’ve read, it appears that the older Rubottom whose grave is shown at 16:53 was the founder of the town of Spadra.
52Ricoman he has a mason sign
Watch my 2020 visit to Spadra cemetry

6:17 guy yells 'we're no more!'
7:31 either 'I shot at him' or 'I shot Adam'
9:31 what the hell is buried up' male
Is that things you heard in the video?

I'm sure we can make that happen.

The house has tours periodically, the cemetary is easy to get to if you just do a little research.

I ALWAYS pack old Betsy here🔫

You call the police and let them know you're entering than you go!
