I'm Indonesian. When I was about 5 years old I used to learn speaking nederlans with my grandfather from my mother. It was a long long time ago. I never practice my nederlans since then. Dutch is my first foreign language while English is my 2nd. My English is much better than my nederlans. Now I'm 58 and I'm really interested to learn nederlans. And fortunately I found this video. It's easy for me to follow. I' ll learn from your other videos. The way you teach is very clear. Thank you Stella. Salam hangat dari Indonesia. (Hartelijke groeten uit Indonesië)

Hello, I am first here I thank you so much for being so amazing, this one is more important to me to understand and I needed this. I hope it will be useful to me. Thanks a lot 🙏
I've noticed that you pronounce the N at the end of verbs. I took a Dutch course once, and the teacher told us that the final N should not be pronounced, e.g.: the verb "nemen" should be pronounced "neme". How true is that?
it should be pronounced..that teacher is wrong, he speak amsterdam slang probably in local western dialects they loose letters...not in the more civiilized parts of the country
Both are correct. All people I know don't pronounce the final N (I'm from the west. Amsterdam, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Leiden, Haarlem etc.). It sounds more natural and fluent to me . But I know that in some dialects/areas they dó pronounce it. So, it is never wrong to pronounce the final N. You can choose for yourself.
Also, when people pronounce words in isolation, or try to speak very clearly and slowly (e.g. when they are trying to teach you words) they tend to pronounce áll the letters, including the final N in verbs. In fast speech the final N will disapear (but many people might not be aware of doing it).
I am a Dutch native speaker and i am learn English. She speaks verry good Dutch. And now in Dutch :-) Ik ben een Nederlander en leer Engels. Zij spreekt goed Nederlands. Why do you want to learn a language from a so little country?
I watched German versions of the Indian films which I knew well. That makes the learning of German a plug and play sort of thing. Now with good handle on German I can fidget with Dutch trying to guess how the Dutch word got derived from German. It is fun and I am progressing fast.
About "Alstublieft": I don't know Dutch but I know other Germanic languages. To me it looks like it divides as "Alst", "u"/"je" and "blieft". Here "blieft" looks similar to "lief", meaning love/like, and so the whole thing looks like "as/if you would like" or "as you like it"; compare to "ad libitum" meaning roughly "per your desire" or "as [much as] you desire". So I guess "pass me the salt if you would like [to]" is slightly clunky English but gets at the sentiment of "alstublieft", and "here you go, as you like it" matches "alstublieft" in the response. I will appreciate corrections from people who really know Dutch.
Flemish People, who also speak Dutch, Do not use certain words or completely different words and expressions. We never use "DOEI" nor "Magnetron" Just saying, being a son of a Dutch father and a Flemish Mother.
ik ben al 62 jaar nederlands aan het leren, al 60 jaar nedersaksisch, al 50 jaar duits al 48 jaar engels en scandinavisch...I can fake any language by now... :) Nederlandse films zijn allemaal engelstalig :) Minoes is a great movie by the way
I'm getting confused because the verbs are in their simple present form but sometimes it is present progressive. Is it true that it is the same in Dutch? Help hehe
A common structure for a continuous in Dutch is with "San het". Stella can explain this better thank me. Example: Ik ben aan het werken. = I'm working now.".
Its funny to de this i am Dutch ... buth its its not an easy dialect to learn ...Maar ik wens jullie allemaal succes met het leren van de Nederlandse taal .. Ik ben uit het zuiden maar spreek dus ook een zuiders dialect maar uiteraard ook Nederlands :)
I asked that to Someone I know who’s Dutch and he said it doesn’t matter between Bedankt or Dank je, (but bedankt is appropriate anytime and anywhere tho whereas Dank je is more informal) Dank u is the more formal and polite version of Dank ja , the one you use with strangers
None is better, but if You want to be very polite, to someone older or in this case your teacher always use "U" So "Dank u" "Kan ik "U" iets vragen? Most Dutch people will Reply, You can use "je" and then You use Dank je of Bedankt. Never wrong with using the word "U" This is very polite and respectfull. (With Adults)
Actually it doesn't matter whether you say Bedankt or Dank je. But, Bedankt is mostly used for formal conversations. Like, when you're talking with someone you don't know. Dank je or Dank u is used for when you talk to someone you already know. But the only difference is, we use Dank Je for be we're talking to people we already know. And Dank U for when we're talking to people we don't know.

Alstublieft is derived from the word group “als het u belieft” meaning "if you please"
Yes, 'blieft' comes from the more old Dutch 'believen'. Which is almost the same in English. So you are right.
Dutch is very good to learn
