    I should have mentioned for Rapidash that it's more of a "forced" Pokemon to use if you want a fire type for DP. But I would make the argument, that nobody particuarly WANTS to use it. This list is more of a Pokemon that Nobody WANTS to use list, versus actually having used it in the first place. I'm sure a lot of you have used this mons anyway haha. But the title just looked more appealing I guess. Seaking actually would have been a good Pokemon to put here, but I forgot about Seaking. Which if anything, makes it's case for not being here stronger because it's forgettable lol.

      I actually did use Rapidash in Gen 1, and I think that might be one of its better showings, because of how Fire Spin worked back then. Toxic, Fire Spin, Fire Blast, and Body Slam- not too shabby at all. Actually a pretty decent lategame pickup in my experience.

      Alcremie is a very slept on pokemon, its amazing support in double battles, its abilities either keep both pokemon awake and prevent moves that prevent attacks like taunt from working, it has pretty good bulk too, ignoring an alcremie can quickly lead to the downfall of the other team, i run dazzling gleam, acid armor, calm mind and decorate give it leftovers and once shes sets up theres no getting rid of her and all the while shes buffing her partner without them needing to do so themselves.

    Game Freak was harsh on Flareon, poor puppy. It was actually quite good in Gen 1: 130 atk and 110 special (atk AND def) made him the hardest fire-type hitter of the game, a special tank AND an interesting wallbreaker, but nobody was using it anyways. Then special split and new moves came and maimed it, and Arcanine rose. After, again, those fire/fighting outrageous monsters appeared, and Flareon got even more forgotten. Generation after generation, an unstoppable fall. Flareon deserves more love.

      @mimmo4762 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@PHSDM104 that's not entirely true. Ninetales was the superior choice, but was version exclusive and Flareon was still capable of destroying things the fox could not touch. Arcanine was mediocre at best, and Flareon did almost everything better. I think Flareon was rarely used just because you only had one eevee per run and evolving it in vaporeon or jolteon was always more useful.

      @PHSDM104 10 месяцев назад +1

    Ponyta's late evolution is a combination of it's late appearance in the game and the design approach of gen1. In gen 1 Ponyta appears first on Cinnibar Island. Wild ponyta appear between lv28 and 34, so they give it an evolution level to ensure you have to use it as a ponyta for a at least a couple of levels. Given the lateness of the encounter lv40 would be enough that it's catching up to your main battling pokemon too.
    You can clearly see what is going on when you consider how gen 1 movesets work. Gen 1 movesets were designed with the encounter levels as a key limitation. If the first time you could encounter a pokemon was when that pokemon was say, lv30 in the wild, then that pokemon didnt get any level up moves until after lv30. There was no legit way to get these pokemon at lower levels after all, so why would you bother designing a moveset for levels 1-30if the lowest level you could get it was lv30?
    The same basically applied to evolution levels. You couldnt breed for the unevolved form, so you had to be able to catch the first stage. Then idealy you avtually have to spend time training that first stage pokemon before it evolved. So all gen 1 pokemon have to evolve after the level they are first encounted at.
    Ponyta would make more sense evolving between lv20 and lv30, but if you are only just getting one at lv30 they would have wanted you to actually have to work for the evolution rather then instantly evolve it.
    Rhyhorn is another good example. Lv42 is a late evolution for what is pretty much the same pokemon as Golem, but the lowest level Rhyhorn you encounter is lv25, and thats a the safari zone, close to your 5th or even 6th gym depending on the order you take.
    The earliest Venonat you can encounter is lv24, and it evolved to Venomoth at lv31. You could easily justify a lower evolution level there. Earliest magnemites appear at 21, and evolve at 30. Earliest Doduo appear at 18 and evolve 31. Earliest Cubone at 20 and evolve 28 etc.
    So yeah, appearing closer to the end of the game and level up design accounting for the inability to ever get one below the minimum wild enouncter level = oddly high evolution level.

    I love to use Alcremie in Pokémon shield! She’s so cute and a really good fairy type.
    I’ve been thinking about using Throh in a white version play through sometime in the near or distant future. I prefer him over other fighting types because: 1) I don’t like how Scrafty looks, 2) I have white version so it’s easier to get than Sawk, 3) I have no access to trade evos so no Conkeldurr, 4) Mienshao is way to late to get, and 5) Samurott is my favorite of the starter choices.

      I’ve used Throh as well in a Unova-only run, and even trained one for the postgame PWT Mono-Fighting campaign. Naturally learning Bulk Up and Superpower give it a nice niche combo, and with good EV training (mostly in HP, then either in ATK or Special DEF), it’s a hefty tank.

    i think "forgettable normal type with mediocre-to-bad stats" is such an entire category that idk if granbull, oinkologne and furfrou all deserved their own spots on the list when there's things like delcatty, lickilicky, stantler, dubwool... just lump them together :P
    one thing i think should've been on the list is definitely dewgong. with the sole exception of oras for some reason, every game that features dewgong also has lapras in it (and sometimes the game just hands you lapras completely for free during the main story). it's like the sawk>throh thing but even worse.

    Leavanny, as it has numerous weaknesses and is difficult to obtain quickly. The numerous competition of cool and good bug types like the venipede line in gen 5 doesn't help it.

    • @zacharyjoy8724
      @zacharyjoy8724 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, Unova is rough on Grass and Bugs, but a well trained Leavanny is actually quite strong! Plus, if you’re smart, you can get it literally the next level after it first evolved (so, as early as level 21). X-Scissor and Leaf Blade for STAB, Return for some coverage and high damage (yay for friendship!), and Swords Dance for a buff. Sure, you won’t always pull it off, but if you can, it’s worth it.

    I've taken a break from Gen2 games but if you customize Ledian's moves with TMs such as Ice Punch or Thunder Punch, it's a decent addition. The Unknown may only use one move, but depending on the form you get, they all have the type they specialize against.
    As for Ponyta, what sucks is that it never learns Flamethrower until Gen 3 (via TMs). But as for the transformation quota, Growlithe takes up to L50 (though gradually less time after Gen2) before finally learning Flamethrower and then you can use the Fire Stone. And that's made even harder with the ridiculous EXP demand. So Ponyta has it easier by comparison.
    Though I'm surprised the list doesn't include Magikarp and Ditto. They're practically impossible to train and you can only use rare candies to level them up (at least Magikarp turns into Gyarados at 20).

    • @SpecsJigglypuff

    I actually did use Throh in gen 5. He's bulky, can use Bulk Up, and gets things like Reversal and Payback, taking advantage of his slower speed. I forget exactly what role he filled in the party, and may have just picked him to see what he was capable of. I don't think I saw him in gen 6, or 9. It's rare for me to use single typed pokemon.
    I wanted to use Ledian in gen 2. I really did. It just needed better special attack to go with that nice special defense. Then it could at least beat weaker enemies on its own.
    Rapidash and Flareon got a raw deal. You want a fire type, grab Charmander, or eventually Growlith. Or Moltres if you want to use a legendary. Rapidash feels like it should have been a middle evolution that evolved sooner.
    Oincologne is something I tend to grab early, and replace when I get better mons. I didn't look too deeply at its capabilities, but I've also never heard of anything standing out. It's not like Bidoof with Simple, allowing you to double the stages on buffs.
    I skipped gen 7 and 8, so I have little to say about Lycanroc or Eldegoss. Eldegoss is cute, though, and I sometimes use grass types, so I probably would have given it a try at least once.
    I wanted to like Furfrou, but I didn't really like any of its coat designs, and even with its defense raising ability, it just wasn't worth a slot. There were too many other good gen 6 pokemon that deserved a slot more.
    I barely remember Granbull exists, much less remember why I passed it over. Probably because it's slow, and not very bulky, which tends to be a bad combination.
