Congratulations on getting an agent! You completely deserve all the success you experienced with querying this time around! As a reader and a writer, I love seeing someone who is so passionate about telling stories that matter to them and I would rather read someone who has put out a handful of stories they loved than someone who has cranked out a dozen stories they didn't really care about. I would love to hear more about querying and any tips because I finally (after 4 years!) finished the first draft of my historical fantasy and sent it off to my beta-readers. Nerve-cited to say the least, but relieved to have eyes other than mine on it! Now that it's off, I'm working on my query materials, agent lists, etc and it's been SUCH an interesting exercise to figure out how to condense my over 100,000 word work into a digestible format. Again congrats and I can't wait to read MOTHS and hear more about project CRYPTS!

I have one quick q: when you say one agent was a referral (the agent you signed with, if I understand correctly), what does that mean exactly? Did one of their clients send that agent an email introducing you? Or is it something else entirely? Again, major congratulations and I cannot wait to read Moths one day! :)
Thank you so much! So yes, the agent I signed with was a referral-I'm friends with one of her clients, and she had previously gotten blanket permission to refer new clients to her agent. So when I sent my query, I titled it with something like 'Client Referral from [Friend's Name]' and mentioned my friend in the query! (I hope that makes sense.) My friend didn't directly connect us, but I basically name-dropped her in the query.
@@lynndjung I dunno why it never occurred to me that referrals are probably a great way to query, but it makes total sense. And that's SO exciting. I'm so happy for you and I can't wait to watch more of your journey here :D!!!
I am sorry, but sending that beta reader version has me dyyyyying. Haha Those comments are so funny. I'm so glad that everything worked out for you, though. As someone who also suffers from "analysis paralysis"/horrible indecision issues/wanting to please everybody/never wanting to let anyone down, I felt you through this vlog. But I do think that this was the best outcome, because it allowed you to have agency with your decision. You weren't shoehorned into one trajectory just because of "destiny" or something, which I think will prove to be more comforting in the long run. Keep writing stories that are near and dear to your heart, and I'll continue to support your endeavors with all of mine. Congrats on signing!!! I'm not crying, you're crying. 🤧🥲🥳
