    I worked for State Farm as an agent for almost 4 years. In all honesty, I learned a lot in my time there and refined my skills and I’m grateful for that. However that company is beyond greedy. Most of the agency owners are extreme micromanagers to the highest degree. It’s like working at a glorified call-center that happens to sell insurance. Everything is watched. Everything is monitored every click every phone call etc…craziness. Juvenile environment almost. Took my experience and moving on to another agency was the best decision I ever made on so many different levels. Couldn’t be happier with my decision. Look at State Farm as a steppingstone job. Get your foot in the door, gain your experience, and then get the hell out of there.

      Which storm was it? A large, single storm that impacts hundreds or even thousands are designated as Catastrophe (or CATS). Every home damaged during a CAT is eligible for for insurance. Act of God is contained in policy language. However, I advise you to submit a complaint to the Georgia Insurance Commissioner's office. State Farm IS REQUIRED TO RESPOND TO YOUR COMPLAINT. From my experience, it sounds like someone in an agent's office told you it wasn't covered.

      State Farm. Is notorious for denying claims. The same thing happened to me. There was a snow storm last year and I had damage to my gutters, roof and porch. State Farm initially denied my claim. Then I contacted the Illinois Department of Insurance who investigates insurance companies. After they investigated then State Farm paid part of the claim. I’m still fighting with them. Once this is over I am definitely changing companies. They are horrible.

    SF Agents are independent contractors, not SF employees. As she stated, they can hire/fire who/when they want. However they can be sued for things like sexual harrasment. They can also decide to provide or not provide benefits to team members. The truth is many agents simply cannot afford to pay benefits and higher salaries. Many or them are struggling financially due to overhead. And if their commissions go down or they don't meet their minimum bonus requirements their income suffers.

    I think the experience varies from agent to agent. I started as receptionist on 2018 working for a State Farm agent that offer benefits (health, disability insurance, 401K), he does have a Human Resources company hired called Bambee and there is a lot of structure for management. Now I am part of management, and I can see everything from the inside and I can testify the efforts on wanting employees to grow. I no longer get commissions since my salary is very competitive, but other sales team members make minimum 2k to uncapped commission every month on top of a salary of 35k, starting that is reviewed every year and for the most part increased. Also my boss invests in multiple marketing sources, being Google the main one and it keeps leads coming and everyone gets an opportunity to sell and make good commissions.
    I am so sorry you had that experience, you seem so smart. Another agent would have valued you.

    OK so, a little about me, I have worked for progressive, geico, All-State (for a minute) and have been with state farm for about 3 years. In my three years I have been with three different agents. You have to keep in mind, and this is just experience, that most of these agents are Republicans. As a Democrat, I have to prepare myself to know ima hear them complain about politics alot. Additionally these agents pay for all benefits out of pocket and majority don't want to. They will gladly underpay obviously.... so in a lot of ways you have to be your own advocate. Everyone's experience, depending on their agent, will really vary... the biggest issue for most is the lack of training in the systems, in how to sale, much less in how these products actually work. You have to be a real self sufficient person to take the initiative to learn things on your own... with a tool that isn't the most user friendly. Now if you know ecrm- you can reach a broad scope of people who are in offices all over to help. Now I'm all for leaving a place when the environment isn't the best. I've raised hell to let people know I'm not the one.. but when you get lucky and find the right office for you that Mets your needs... it great and can be a career not just a job. While you may learn everything from auto, home, renters, umbrella, life insurance options like term, whole life, universal live to all commercial options... the reason why I say it can be a career is because you can go corporate but aim big like claims or underwriting... I dispise sells and at every company I've been put at sales because I'm very good at it.. but you have to be an advocate for yourself in every way...

    The insurance and automotive industry abuse the independent contractor laws mire than any other. Insurance general agents use new agents to create new accounts by prospecting using their own money. A lot of new agents eventually starve out and leave. The general agents gets those accounts. So, the general agent has no incentive to help new agents. They call agents independent contractors, yet they hold meetings and set daily, weekly expectations. They treat them as employees, but they aren't paying a salary or provide benefits.

    As a single back female who happens to be a Statefarm agent, I will say the we are all different. My advice is to take your time before you accept a position. Like you said there are plenty to choose from and we will compete for licensed team members.You have to make sure make the agent is right for you as well. I make an effort to incorporate coaching sessions on a weekly basis to discuss challenges for the week and role play to set the expectations for service and sales. This helps cutout the micromanagement. I have offered bonuses for sales and service in the past. Bottom line, I'm glad you left we all validation and apprection in some form. My rule in my agency is we do not discuss politics, religion or sexual orientation amongst ourselves and customers. Good luck the universe will open doors for you...just be brave enough to step through . His and her loss are systems are complicated and take awhile to train effectively.

    I've been at SF for a whopping 2 1/2 months and am being trained by someone that's been doing ins for 30 yrs. There are several criticisms I have. 1. There were only 2 of us in the office my first 2 months. I'm studying for my p&c while answering the phones, taking payments, greeting ppl, etc. So, not a lot of personal training the 1st month. 2. It's really hard to train someone with no experience in the ins field when you're the only person with experience in the office. She's constantly taking care of business, no fault of her own, and I am constantly answering phones, taking payments, etc, while trying to absorb what little training she can give. 3. Training shouldn't be at the hands of someone who is also trying to conduct business bc the training is being disrupted which can cause mistakes in the training. Trainng shouldn't also be on the training modules. SF, for the newly licensed, should have a 2 week hands on in person training with instructors and computer simulations. This should be 8 hrs a day, doing every scenario from taking payments to writing policies. Pound it into the heads over and over and after the 2 weeks, a newly licensed person should really be self sufficient, only asking for help from the more knowledgeable occasionally. 4. This is her and not SF.. for the most part I do like her and I know she can teach me a lot. However, being new to this industry, I'm still learning all the acronyms and jargon. So don't get upset when you're using a new language and I don't get it the 1st time. In reality, it's only been a month 1/2 of highly interrupted training. I'm trying my best to remember every little detail, but for the 20 things I get right, the one time I make a small overlook, on a name, I get the exasperated eye roll following by the "wtf" headshake. The "come to me if you have question" and then I get attitude doesn't really leave me wanting to come to you when I have questions. Trust me, you can't make me feel like I've chosen the wrong field as much as I can do already. Sometimes I just go home in tears wondering why I just am not catching on fast enough. Is it me, or is it the training or lack thereof?
    Those are my major concerns. I don't mind the lack of benefits bc my husband has them at his job. Other than what's listed above, my day goes by quickly, and the customers are great, for the most part.

    @tallchicknvegas Год назад +1

    You had the wrong agent. I have been in the industry 30 years. If you are reading this, yes, your base is usually low, you make it up with your commission/sales. There are agents who's office is busy enough for you to NEVER leave. All of your sales are from the desk. You can even sale off of their current clients it's called cross selling. There are abusive agency owners. I cannot work in an abusive, nor micro managing environment. I look for agents that pay well, have a good attitude, AND pays my health insurance. Easier for me to find, having the experience. There is LOTS of money you can make. Especially if you sell Commercial and Life insurance. Allstate's system is much much better than State Farm's. But State Farm is much bigger and more popular. If you choose State Farm, just take time to learn their system. Training is not the same anymore. Agents expect you to figure it out. But the company's have training classes you can take. Spend your first 30 days shadowing a co-worker and passing your mandatory training. Then continue to sporadically take training classes on the computer. The industry has changed, the type of agents, underwriters, and customer service representatives they hired used to be more professional. I feel being able to get your own insurance policy online gave the impression insurance is not as important as it is. People find out when it comes to having a claim and they need certain coverage's. I currently work REMOTE for an agent. I make double her salary, plus commission, Health ins, Paid sick leave, and 401k. Oh, and I was given a $2500 sign on bonus. Good licensed staff is hard to find. There is a need. Go for it!
