Such a lovely lady talking about the Fuchsia family from Washington....
First reasonable video about fuchsias, I've purchased 6 of the hardy varieties and planted in the garden where they have morning sun till noon or 1-2 pm, yet in every video they say you need to get them to your garage over winter. I'm in UK winters rarely go near 0'C. I'm glad I don't need to dig them all out!
What a great video😊. Hardy Fucsia are a great perennial. 9:52 9:53
My favorite garden related channel! You share so much knowledge with a positive spirit! Thank you!
Nicely Done!
We inherited an F. magellanica type that my grandmother had planted. We have been here 40 yrs now. It has been frozen to the ground, it has been trampled when the house has been painted and who knows what all else. A humble shrub when we moved in, it is now about 12 ft long by 4ft Wide. It is on a NE facing wall. It has provided us hours of Hummingbird watching!
These are some of my favorite flowering shrubs! Every time I look at them they remind me of an Alice in Wonderland garden (along with columbine wild flowers and orchids). There is something so magical and enticing about these flowers. I’m definitely planting more this year as I currently only have one.
Just found your content and so happy I did! I’m new the gardening in the PNW and have found your videos fun and informative.
Thank you for sharing Debbie.
I am so happy to see fuchsias I can grow in my climate zone!!!
Thanks Debbie, from NE France! Not quite Washington weather, but we do have a few hardy fuchsias. I particularly like "Lady Bacon", a cutting of which I surreptitiously took when visiting a garden in Southern England. (The best time to do this? - it's when the gardener's not looking!) Happy gardening!
Your fuchsias look fantastic,great video.
My favourite plant fuchsia I live in England so I take cuttings as you say easy to take thanks so much for your time 🌹🌹🌹👍👍👍
Love your videos! I learn so much from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of plants and gardening!
Recently found your videos and really appreciate what you are sharing especially since you are in NW.

Very informative. Thank you!
I did not know there were 2 different types. 🤷♀️ Thank you so much for including the names, in writing.
I just bought a hardy fuchsia today and can’t wait for it to grow tall . And I also live in the Pacific Northwest !
Thank you for such helpful fuschia advice. I adore them and buy annual fuschias each year. I've just bought my first hardy to try in a patio pot (deltas Sarah) very pretty. Will try and garage my annuals over next winter and see how they fare 🤗
Just osm beautiful flowers 👌👌👌👌👌
Here in England we do grow a lot of the fuchsia you behind you , lovely ! On holiday in Cornwall the grow fuchsia Magelanica Molinaea (forgive the spelling ) a beautiful pale pin k
Thank you ,very interesting and informative. I live in South Africa , and sometimes battle to keep my fuchsias away from the heat in summer. Even in the shade it can reach 30c In winter they don't always die back completely. However the effort is worth it .
Loved all the info on the different varieties. Can you provide some additional info on the pruning of these hardy varieties. I have one that’s 15 years old and is very lanky and woody and only blooming at the edges. I have miraculously snapped off some fresh branches and shoved in the dirt which have survived and grown. But I don’t know how to keep this plant dense and green. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Have a great day.
Thanks for video. My hubby fall in love with them due to your this video. Being zone 5(Illinois northern) I'm bit struggling. Wish to plant in garden
i live in a zone 3b/4 and i keep mine in the unheated garage over winter, and yes, it does come back, i cut it back down to the crown to store it
Thanks for your video Debbie. I always learn so much from you, the real knowledge, not just the general knowledge that everybody seems to know but then is actually incorrect
Thank you for all the information on the Fuchsias I live in Michigan Middle part of the Mitten I plant on planting some fuchsia in with my Hosta this year to see how well they grow.
Did you know that hostas are edible??
Hi Debbie, great video! You clearly know your stuff. Have you done a presentation on how to deal with gall mite?
On a trip to Ireland we saw hardy fuchsias growing everywhere. I hope to grow them here in zone 7 in North Carolina.
England should plant all the thrilly flower fuchsias everywhere.
Did you try growing them in NC yet? I'm in GA and don't know if they can take our hot dry summers.
5b here and they come back every year
Sorry touched the wrong key then 🙄 but the pink fuchsia I mentioned they grow as hedges down south and it absolutely drips with flowers like a pink fountain , should grow great in your climate ,hope you like it xx E T
Always love your videos. Thanks for all the info on the varieties. Question -- when you put a fuschia basket in the garage like you suggested, do they need any light? My garage is completely dark. And when do you move them inside? Thanks!!
Elizabeth Myers Yes you can have them in the dark as they go dormant anyway. Move them in when temps get below 40 degrees. :)
Magellanica is named after Magellan. The famous Cartographer.
Is zone 10b good for growing fushias? Thank you so much 😊🌹
when ll b the time for growing fuchsia in warm climate.
👍
Really enjoy watching your show. Get great ideas and my dream plant list just keep growing. But I would like to where I can buy the hardy fuchsia??
Carolyn Stateman Check your local nursery they should have them.
My fuchsia leaves are purple instead of green but bloom a thriller like a dress style fuchsia lmao xD
Thank you for this video! Question- What is the name of the tricolor fuchsia you showed at 4:25 minutes?
I recently ordered some Hardy Fuchsia online and there was some damage on arrival and I was beginning to be hopeful just last week they might pull through...but now they are dropping leaves and some of the tips of the leaves are turning dark. Does anyone have any advice?
so nice garden thanks for sharing like/sub
Hi Debbie
What kind of fertilizer do you use? I’m just down the street in Vancouver Wa, our fuchsia take a long time to grow. Thanks.
😊🌱💚🌻🐝
Excellent but do deer eat them??
No. They haven't munched on mine. 😃
What was the name of the big double flowered one? Double auto fuchsia? Fuchsia
Double Otto
I really enjoy your videos, however, the audio is not the best.
I couldn't hear her either
Will these guys survive zone 5 in ground?
Yes!
Hey anyone out there from the deep south have any luck with these?
I bought a fushia hanging basket at Lowe’s. Can I put it in the ground? I live in zone 7a.
I read that if you plant them deep, really deep like the crowns 4 to 6 inches below surface you can grow them a zone or two lower. They are like tomatoes, when you plant them deep they root off their stems!
Debbie, can I plant my hanging basket fuschia in the ground for winter ??
Where do you live?
Where did you buy yours?
My nursery. You can find them in your local garden center.
Do you sell at your store. How would I order one
Can we still buy these hardy fushias
Yes!
good shit gangster!
My hardy fuschias have not bloomed this year. They have grown well and are leafy, but only about half a dozen blooms. They have good sun until mid afternoon. They bloomed well last year. Why?
Melody Schleicher Have you fed them?
Garden Style Yes, they were fed with chicken pellets and had compost added as well. Everything around them has bloomed well, except the fuschias. I am really puzzled. They were also rather late sending up new growth in the Spring, which was extremely short this year. In England we virtually went straight into an unusually hot Summer.
My hardy fuschias were the same this year, maybe a handful of flowers. I'm also in England.
Razmatazuk I am seeing a few more blooms now that the weather has cooled down. Perhaps it was just too hot for them this year?
Heat will definitely affect them. However pinching the tips will encourage them to produce more as well.
