  • Super Bowl halftime show empowering or objectifying? 🏈 Did you love Jennifer Lopez pole dancing and crotch flashing while Shakira popped her hips and bound herself with a rope? Or did you prefer the big booty twerk off while little girls were crowding the stage?
🤔 Love the halftime show or hate it, don’t defend it in stupid ways. Engage your brain and take a stand. It works better in that order.
💁🏼‍♀️ Yes, I know what a g-string is. It just seemed more palatable than calling it a “bedazzled panty liner.”

Try addressing my actual positions instead of just defending performed ideas. 😉 Rational discussion is a good thing and not that hard!

Midlife Credo I was at a Super Bowl party and children were in attendance. The mother’s were calling their daughters in to see the halftime show. These ding dongs were telling their daughters this was empowerment! How?!? Thankfully these are people on periphery. Yikes.

Ding dongs is right. Come on in girls! Strip down and flash your crotch! That's how you become an astronaut! 🙄

Spot on and no pun intended!! Thank you. It is a sleaze fest not even fit for adult entertainment

Amen. When people say they didn't think it should be part of the Super Bowl, but would have been fine in, say, an "adult club," I want to ask why? I do agree that maturity and appropriateness is a consideration in many things, but not sure why watching an engaged woman (whatever that means nowadays) grinding on some other guy is ever appropriate-either to do OR to watch. 🤔

YES! First, I am a newcomer to your Midlife Credo tribe. I'd like to thank you so much for making this video. You are so on point! Secondly, I'd like to truly thank you for opening my eyes to what it says about ourselves when we cringe and label someone JUDGMENTAL. I consider myself pretty laid back when it comes to how other's live their own lives. I have very low tolerance for those who condemn others for their sexuality, religion or lack of it. I try to live my life each day knowing I am not here to judge. I believe that there is only one loving God and we all will answer to Him when it's our time to do so. So what do I do? I JUDGE those who voice their opinion quoting the bible's teachings. In my head I scream BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. WELL,SHAME ON ME! If I could I'd give you a big hug for opening my eyes to how ignorant I am I, would. If you created this channel to change the mind of just one person, HER SHE IS!

I thought the show was wrong but couldn't figure out how to respond. Your points are really good. People who argue with you probably won't even talk about your arguments.

Couldn't agree more, Alison! Another thought on the "they didn't choose their costumes or choreograph the show or choose the camera angles" -- well then how could the show be one of "empowerment" if the ladies were FORCED to wear those clothes, make those moves or point those body areas at the camera? Geez--- they're either slaves to the industry or they're empowered women. Pick one! Get your argument straight!!
But the one I got the most was "That kind of dancing is their ethnic culture. And you're being intolerant toward Latina and Lebanese/Middle Eastern culture" -- Well, let's see.... I didn't criticize their culture or their cultural dances. I didn't even mention them. All I said was that it got a little pornographic-- it was the people criticizing me that conflated Latin and Lebanese culture with porn, not me. I was critical of what they were wearing and certain moves that are NOT "Latin" or "Lebanese"-- buttless chaps, Dominatrix costumes and g-strings aren't "Latina" or "Lebanese". The moves I was criticizing weren't "Latina" or "Lebanese". I AM of Middle Eastern descent and have seen plenty of belly dancing. While it certainly is "sensual", there are no "crotch shots" in belly dancing. I've never seen a belly dancer spread her legs and open her crotch area in someone's face (or in a camera lens). And let's face it -- for 95% of the American population, the only belly dancing they've seen is on TV and in the movies. The "mostly naked" belly dancing that Westerners think is "authentic" belly dancing is a HOLLYWOOD invention to make it more erotic for the screen. In fact, the standard attire for belly dancing is a LONG skirt that only SOMETIMES has a slit going up one side, OR full length PANTS with a completely covered crotch area!! The stomach area is bare so that the undulations can be seen, and the coins or fringe around the hips is to accentuate the hip shimmies. But guess what? , the stomach isn't always shown, either! Belly dancers often wear full length, long sleeves dresses that cover everything! But no matter the style of costume, Belly dancing doesn't have anything to do with the crotch area. In fact, the Hollywood version of belly dancing has caused a stir in the Middle East because many feel that Hollywood has polluted their cultural dance and oversexualized it. In several Middle Eastern countries the kind of belly dancing that Westerners think is "authentic" belly dancing is relegated to THEIR strip clubs!! It's considered "indecent". In other Middle Eastern countries, that kind of belly dancing is considered HARAM and is outlawed! While I appreciate people trying to "defend" other cultures and wanting to be accepting toward them, I was baffled by the number of "white people" trying to lecture ME and the masses on a subject that in reality, they know nothing about and how THEY were the ones drawing a connection between other cultures and indecency. INSERT EYE ROLL HERE. Similarly, authentic Latina dancing -- Salsa, Merengue, Rumba, Bomba, etc which yes, can be sultry and sensual-- doesn't involve dominatrix costumes and strip club pole dancing, nor do they bend over in a g-string and hump the air. That is NOT "Latin" dancing-- that's a Hollywood/Music Industry hip-hop singer incorporating strip club moves INTO Latin dancing. And the POINT is that they could have done the SAME show and just been a little more covered up and left out the more pornographic elements. They wouldn't have been "less powerful women" for removing those things.

Oh, THAT is an excellent point. Wish I had said that! Seriously, these "empowered" ultra-rich women are just hapless victims tossed about by the producers?
Yes, the conflation of culture and skank is rather racist, isn't it? 😂I saw a post from a Latina who said, "In what culture is public vulva stroking acceptable?" The only culture I can think of is porn. What about you?
Thanks for the info on belly dancing. And here's the rub (hehhh heeh), there are sexualized things in all cultures. And we CAN, in fact, have open discussions about what parts of other cultures are good and those that are bad! It's not racist to have a brain and notice such things. For the love, I get so tired of the stupidity.

Essas cantoras performáticas supostamente se apoiam em sua "cultura" para vender um show sensual. Tenho vergonha de ser colocada na mesma label de certas "latinas", como Anitta. Isso só nos degrada como mulheres.
