I have family who's been in the navy, and the general consensus of bootcamp is that the meanness and shouting is to A) teach discipline, and B) keep you out of your head. it's not "i own your soul" ranting, it's back and fourth banter to keep you present. you can't zone out if you're trying to deal with an argument. And obviously the military sucks ass and I don't support it, But the misunderstanding of what it is, and what bootcamp is, really just shows that these people truly don't understand it At All. especially because that drill sergeant bit drops the second you pass basic. once you're In, you're in. my dad's friends with his old drill sergeants.
