I'd love for PanatomicX to come back. Haven't tried shooting it, but I found a 35 year old roll in my grandpa's fridge and developed it in Rodinal. And there I was at 2 years old eating a popsicle. Looked like it was shot yesterday. Couldn't've done that with Ilford PanF, that's for sure.
Also bring back Efke. I love that stuff and I only have one roll left. Someone ought to be able to use their recipe even though the Efke machinery was worn out.

Adox CHS ii is based on an Efke emulsion as I recall? Might be worth checking out! I love the stuff.

I would give Adox CHS100 II a try if I were you. The original (CHS100) was made by Efke, the new version is made to look very like it.

Catlabs 80 is Shanghai GP3-just like as you say, CatLabs 320 is Kodak Double-X. On the Double-X, the edge markings make that obvious. It doesn't make sense (to me) to buy Double-X anywhere than directly from Kodak, it's so much cheaper in 400ft rolls than as rebrands (Catlabs or Cinestill).
I was curious so I shot and developed Catlabs 80 and GP3 side by side (in the same tank)-they're exactly the same. I love Shanghai GP3, and I'm happy it's more domestically available, but I dislike that CatLabs is lying about the origin of the film.

As soon as my test rolls come back confirming some vintage cameras I bought recently work, I've got 3 rolls of this ready to burn. I love shooting old and decaying buildings in b&w.

CatLabs actually randomly sent me a roll of this stuff a while back. However, I still haven't gotten around to shooting it. There are just so many different B&W stocks out there, that collecting them is much easier than figuring out what to actually shoot with them.

I'd love to see panatomic and tech pan return. Especially for medium format!

I've used it recently with my Mamiya 645 and developed in HC-110. Very contrasty, but I really like it. Not crazy about the backing paper. It is very cheap though in the US. To the people that claim it is really just Shanghai GP3, who cares? It is actually cheaper than GP3 so I really don't see the problem.

yet another item on the list of reasons to shoot medium format! my wallet lives in fear but my heart yearns. also, the wall-e shot is incredible!!

As always these videos are super helpful! I actually missed the review of the Reveni light meter so I went back and watched that video before buying it. I bought it. That thing seems perfect to throw in the camera bag.
    You rule my homie!

JCH streetpan is not a original emulsion, it's rebranded AGFA surveillance film. The same film as rollei retro 400S

I have been meaning to try out CATLABS ever since I saw another youtuber shoot it, thanks for the review. Looks rad and totally my kind of jam. Aside: those movie noise borders on your images (to make them fit the 16:9 ratio) are extremely big brain. I want to steal that idea lol

It's interesting how much there are great small film companies but the only things we hear is Portra and HP5

I bought Catlabs about a year ago but never bothered shooting it since I read it was supposedly just Shanghai. First time I hear it being compared to Panatomic X. I bought an expired roll of that for $5, which looking online was a steal; Panatomic is going for $30+ a roll on eBay

Pan X was very Contrasty for me, then my photo teacher told me of using Pan X on of an ISO of 80, and souping it in D76 and a additive called: Crone Additive, as it was C76, as this is very tricky stuff, and careful metering, and lighting was a Must. So I use it, and found with Pan X, and Crone 76 really work as it softens, and lights up the contrast in a medium look in which Pan X was Strong Contrast. I use it but I switch over to FP4 as I shoot it at 200 ISO, and also using HP5 at 400. As I do missed a developer called UFG, as it really tighten the grain, and contrast was just right...

Nice review. I figured it was Shanghai film which doesn't bother me. The examples I've seen are nice-as they were here.
Have you tried Rollei Superpan 200 yet? It's about the prettiest BW film I've ever used and it comes in the most boring box, haha.

Would you be kind enough to share your impressions of the differences between this and the Rollei Retro 80 S film? I am thinking of moving to the 80S after decades of working with Tri-X rated at 200 with a 6 x 9 camera. Thank you in advance.

Hey, I was watching your video on developing super 8 and it looks like someone has replicated the lomo tank to be 3D printed. Its called Movie Film Spiral Developing Tank by mb_maker on thingiverse. Thought it would be interesting for you to give developing 8mm a try if you have access to a 3D printed. Just need to make sure to print it in a chemical resistant polymer though Ultimaker looks like it has a general guide for choosing polymers based on types of chemicals.

Are you gonna review Pro8mm's Double X super8 stock this summer? I've shot it in still photography but I wanna know how it compares to tri-x on super 8

Keep in mind I’m talking Canadian dollars and there’s of course added costs for stores to import and sell different things from outside of the country.

Never understood why people are so much fan of portra

    • @Uwe_Ludolf
      @Uwe_Ludolf 3 года назад

First of all because everyone on YT uses it...
For someone that shoots MF that might be the most common available. Lomo is not everywhere for sale, at least not in the shop right around the corner where a beginner might go to.
Yes there is Ektar but people might not like it's colours for what they aim to shoot and there was Pro400H but it's unfortunately discontinued. There also is Fuji Pro 160NS, in fact my favourite C41 film but it is a Japan only product.
Then recently Silberra brought out some C41 films in medium format but I haven't seen them in stock at any online shop in Europe.
I still have 50 rolls of 400H. I didn't want to shoot Portra 400 as a way of rebellion, to be different, but ofcourse did a comparison and I like 400H more so I stuck with it. I hope Fuji is working on a successor.
