SHEFFIELD | A look at the new look Sheffield City Centre!

  • We visit Sheffield City Centre for a walking tour around this Yorkshire city that's undergoing lots of changes around The Moor, Charter Square, Cambridge Street and Barkers Pool
Also watch our Sheffield City Centre tour - • SHEFFIELD | A full wal...
In this video our route was from The Moor to Charter Square, round to Cambridge Street and then down to Pinstone Street and Peace Gardens before heading up Cambridge Street to Barkers Pool and the John Lewis building.
The new buildings are coming on nicely and we see the old Chubbys Takeaway and Leahs Yard as well as the new places like The Light Cinema, Furnace Bar and Restaurant on Charter Square and the Citadel building which is still languishing waiting to be updated!
Some of these buildings and streets have been looking tired for some time so to replace them or redevelop them and make them brand new again is a great idea.
Sheffield will really benefit from all these additions and I can't wait to see it when it's finished!
I hope you enjoy this Sheffield tour.

Ignore the doom and gloom posts. Sheffield City centre is looking remarkable and very tidy. The new and higher rise buildings are a great asset and needed in an ever growing population.
I would recommend a Norfolk Park video, incredible views of the city, the park itself was opened by Queen Victoria? And also don't forget Queens Tower, a hidden 19th century castle, former residents include the Duke of Norfolk. Now converted Into housing inside and as a former tenant can say it's a beautiful building.

Development is always needed in all citys but i remember Sheffield in the mid 80s and this look is so alien to me i like to rekmember this place as it was back then all my memories are of that time and it had so much character.

Sheffield has seen it's days, it's ok if you want a pint or something from the cheapy pound shops but the days are long gone when Fridays and Saturdays it would be packed with shoppers going to rag and tag or sheaf markets to do the weekly shop.

I think that the John Lewis site should be flattened and turned in to a green square - it would open up great views of City Hall and the beautiful old buildings being redeveloped on Cambridge Street - would be epic in summer for people having picnics.

A LOT different from the Sheffield I left behind in 1995. It was a lot rougher back then. But I loved it back then. Kinda just looks like anywhere else now I guess. But it's lovely to see it so modern & clean.

Having spent my life in Leeds,I haven't ever explored Sheffield..I know like other places it suffered bombing during w w 2 and must have lost a good part of its architectural heritage..someone has done a really fine job in recreating the centre where the modern buildings are pleasing ,also the use of space to enhance the surroundings .. it's more expansive than Leeds, more open, and greener ...I should be proud of it..

I’ve not seen the Centre since Covid (moved away last year as well) I have to say it is coming along really well. The Debenhams building needs to be replaced with a new Central Library for the city, offering hot desks and meeting rooms for good prices. It will boost liveliness of the whole area.

Interesting, because you have 2 football clubs, a few shops will close down, it happens all over the Country
I live in the South UK
We had BHS & Debenhams closed down
Woolworths went about 10 years ago,
Not many people go into Libraries anymore.
It is a real shame that our local pubs seem to be closing down, but we have more charity shops & coffee shops
      It doesn't make any sense.

@@empireman1077 People use libraries that are fit for purpose, in their droves. But across the country the library stock is comparable to Sheffield. Old, dark buildings, lovely architecture, but ill maintained and no longer capable of delivering on the mission of a modern library. They require investment and with the right investment will be crucial to regenerating city centres.
