Hi Sal , can you please let me know how we can configure SIP over TLS with Cisco 8845 with an Asterisk PBX. ? i found that there is a CA certificate is required , but how to generate this certificate and where to copy this certificate in the phone ? Any help on this would be highly appreciated... Thanks
Hi Cisco Sal, thanks for the video, I came across this video looking to do the same with my DX650. I was wondering if you would have any tips on how to do that with the SEP.conf.xml file? Any directions would be appreciated.
Hey. I just bought a cp8861 with 3PCC PN. When starting the phone it’s not asking for an activation code and i can’t access the web gui. It’s always idleing. I tried to upgrade the firmware with ttps64 but can’t access admin setting on the phone neither can see the admin setting in the settings. Factory reset didn’t help. Any idea what to do?
8900 phones do not support the mpp firmware. You need an 8800 or 7800 series phone. Make sure you buy the phone as a 3pcc or mpp phone. Look for 3pcc in the sku. If you don’t get a 3pcc phone then you will have to pay to convert it to one. Better off purchasing it the correct way.
Hello, I'm from Germany, the configuration utility is built into the phone, you only connect to the ip address ?? I see on your screen or is there a program for the PC to connect to the phone to make settings LG Michael
Hi Cisco Sal, I wonder if you help me, I bought a 8861-3PCC secondhand that was previously used with Ring Central. I can access the phone settings on the phone screen including wifi setup, IP address etc. BUT I can't access it's web page, I have tried 4 different browsers (as I have noted some don't work too well). It says connection refused under https and under http it shows the Cisco ico on the address bar but I just get a circle of dots spinning round. Perhaps it's locked to Ring Central, if so is there a way of releasing it? Any other ideas gratefully received.... I have an SPA525G2, that is a doddle to program but like the looks of the 8800 series - Thanks
Great video. I'd love to see one where you decode the Cisco Part numbers. Now I understand that 3PCC means support for 3rd party call control, W seems to indicate white color, RF indicates refurbished. Still can't figure out what NC, 3PW, NA or ++ mean when included in the part numbers. I can see 11 different Cisco part numbers for the 8841 -- CP-8841-K9=, CP-8841-K9++=, CP-8841-NC-K9=, CP-8841-W-K9-RF, CP-8841-W-K9=, CP-8841-K9-RF, CP-8841-3PCC-K9=, CP-8841-3PW-NA-K9=, CP-8841-3PCC-K9++=, CP-8841-3PWNAK9-RF, CP-8841-3PCC-K9-RF. It's a little confusing.
QUESTION #1. Can I connect multiple TRUNK LINES to my CISCO DEVICES (Cisco CP-9971 and CISCO DX-650). QUESTION #2. Do I need to buy a PBX and then connect my CISCO DEVICES (Cisco CP-9971 and CISCO DX-650 behind this PBX. If so which of these PBX is compatible with my devices (my CISCO DEVICES (Cisco CP-9971 and CISCO DX-650). QUESTION #3. Is it possible to CONNECT / CONFIGURE my two VONAGE accounts / two Phone lines to RECEIVE and MOAKE PHONE CALLS with the Cisco CP-9971 and CISCO DX-650 such that my Vonage phones become available as TRUNK lines for my Cisco CP-9971 and CISCO DX-650. ?
Hi, I have a Grandstream UCM 6108 and would like to register a Cisco CP - 6149 phone, which I already converted to SIP. This is possible?Could you do it?If possible I would have 4 phones. How much would it cost?Best Regards Carlos
I want to buy the Cisco CP-9971 and CISCO DX-650 but I'm not sure if these two devices have the 3PCC written on their PID or the Model numbers. I will appreciate it someone can confirm this info before I make the purchase.
I just purchased the 8861-3PCC and i have a grandstream ucm-6208, how do i configure the 8861 through sip to communicate the the Grand Stream with the sip login credentials?
Is there a 3PCC model for the 8845. I found the 8851 3PCC model, but I can't seem to find anything for the 8845. Also on the info page on Cisco it says that it "Requires future phone software update to support third-party call control."
Thanks for the reply! From the product page I get the impression that if I buy a 8845 now they will eventually release a software version for it that makes it compatible with 3PCCs. Is that a safe assumption?
Sal, I am farily new to VoIP, but am very interested in the 8861 due to the ability to use it via WiFi and not have to run Ethernet. I have to landlines that I would like to "transfer" to a VoIP service, but am wondering if you had any suggestion for a VoIP provider that you have had good success with AND is compatible with the 8861.
Sal, Thanks for the reply. Was hoping you could give me a little more info on the 8861. Getting a straight answer from the right person at Cisco who even knows what the xxx-3PCC phones are, has been challenging to say the least..... Therefore, I was hoping you could help me... I have a 7,000 sq ft property that spans 2 floors. I was originally considering two or three 8861-3PCC for the main knowledge workers, and a lower end model for the non-knowledge workers. The main features I need to have between ALL of the phones is... 1) ability to intercom from one to the other. 2) ability to page ALL the phones at once. 3) a shared directory of names and numbers between all the phones 4) ability for each station to answer calls on any line at that location. So can this be accomplished with a mixed environment of phones or would all the phones have to be ALL 8861's ? If it could be a mixed environment, could it be some 8861's and some SPA525G2's?
This is going to be something you will need to test. With Cisco Spark as the calling service everything will work except using the SPA525's, those would have to be replaced. If you have paging working today on the SPA525's i would assume it would also work on the 8861 phones but again it will depend on what features your VOIP provider supports. How many SPA phones do you have? If its only a few SPA phones I am willing to bet your local Cisco account team can make those disappear and upgrade them to a 7821 for little to no cost if you switch to Spark VOIP.
Sal, Again, I appreciate the time. So far I don't have any SPA's or any 8861 or 7821. I was hoping to get these question answered before I buy, given the inability to return Cisco items once they are opened. Are there any other resources that would know about the cross compatibility between a 8861 and SPA model phones?
I would stay away from SPA phones to be honest with you. If you need a low cost phone I would go with the 7811 or 7821. Don't think a SPA phone will be much cheaper then that. Also a 7800 series or 8800 series phone will give you the most flexibility. You can register the 7800 or 8800 series phones to anything. The SPA phones we don't support in Spark or CUCM. For best pricing I would reach out to your local Cisco Account Manager. Thanks!
Tip to setup 3PCC phone: • Setup a bridge (web) server that allows you to generate user tailor made provisioning profiles... • Make the profiles available via TFTP (you can handle request to generate dynamically the file) www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/MPP/8800/english/provisioning/p881_b_mpp-8800-provisioning-guide/p881_b_mpp-8800-provisioning-guide_chapter_011.html • DHCP option 66 And because your boss didn't saw all the hard time you invested to make your life easy he wrongly think you're expandable 😉
Hi Cisco Sal, just to be sure after my research on the internet. i saw in 3cx forum website that 7841 is unsupported (only 79XX) is there any way to configure 7841 cisco phone to 3cx ? if there is a way , the phone must be 3pcc ? thank you !
Its something you would have to test out yourself. People have gotten it to work with Asterisk community.cisco.com/t5/ip-telephony-and-phones/how-to-configure-cisco-8861-for-asterisk/td-p/3738921 So it should work with 3CX.
***RESOLVED*** The issue was with my Chrome browser on iMac not bringing up the 3PCC configuration page. I switched to Edge browser on Windows PC and it worked as expected. Phone is working now - with the exception of the MWI. I have an email out to the service provider. Awesome video Cisco Sal. I just purchased a model 6851 which has 3PCC in model description. My plan was to replace the SPA525G that's been registered to my SIP provider (PhonePower), but unlike the SPA525G I cannot get the 6851's configuration screen to load. I can occasionally see the 3rd Party Call Control login screen, but entering any values (user or admin) along with the password I setup simply goes nowhere. Any thoughts? Unfortunately, my SIP service provider will not provision this device so I have to do it manually. Setting up the SPA525G was easy, but this newer phone is proving to be difficult. Thanks, Rob.
No you must purchase the phone as 3PCC. If the model number does not have 3PCC in it then you cant change the firmware to make it. The only conversion Cisco allows you to do is take the 3PCC phone and convert it to traditional Cisco call control not the other way around.
Sal you are so informative and helpful. I just ordered the traditional 8861, with the intention of using the Spark Call service. I'm assuming I don't need 3PCC since that's still Cisco? Thanks in advance!
So I called to request enablement and apparently it's a big deal (in a bad way) that I wanted this for my residence. Is there more to it than just turning on the feature for my account? Not sure if I should try calling back to get someone else or just return my 8861 and try again with Meraki as I originally planned? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts :)
Travis Rauh it would be the same situation with Meraki. Cisco does not sell direct so not sure where you were calling. You want to call a value added reseller. Cdw is an example of one. They should be able to help you out.
Thanks again, Sal! I had called Spark's sales team directly which is probably where I went wrong (I thought it was just a matter of having the calling feature enabled) -- she didn't guide me to a reseller at all which was what turned me off. After that conversation, I cancelled my 8861 order and got a couple MC74s from a partner. We'll see if/how much I regret that! :P

BUT if i enter xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/admin/ then it takes me to configuration page and i can do settings. wondering what is that first page as i said above.
Hello Cisco Sal, Awesome Video! Under Proxy and Outbound Proxy, what exactly needs to go in there? I am registering to an E-MetroTel IP PBX that is 192.168.1.200. The Auth ID and extension will be 47878. So will I place the IP address of the Phone System (192.168.1.200) into the Proxy and Outbound Proxy address box? Thank you, Phone Joe.
Do you have the 3PCC version of this phone? It will have 3PCC in the model number. You can not convert a standard phone to 3PCC today. You HAVE to purchase the 3PCC version.
+O KK what do you mean by difficult to use? What issue are you having with the firmware? Cisco sells two versions of the phone. One that registeres to Cisco call control and another that it sip standards based that you can register to any 3rd party system.
I was trying to work out why there are two SKUs with the only difference appearing to be the firmware between the two for call control and why you cannot change the firmware from one to another - it is a limiation that is not good for end-users.
Cisco allows for conversion from 3PCC phones to CUCM Firmware. Just not the other way around. If you need a 3PCC phone just make sure the SKU is correct. If you some how end up ordering the wrong one, a legitimate distributer, or Cisco partner will swap them out no problem. Also if you are using a legitimate partner they should check the order before it even goes in and catch any issues.
Thanks for the follow-up that is what I thought, and it is not good for an end-user. Do you know why the limitation from CUCM > 3PCC is not possible? I assume this is a software limitation only. I have old CUCM phones that cannot be repurposed within the business.
We purchased the Cisco 8861-3PCC. We tried pulling up configuration utility but it's requesting Username and password. The password was set when the phone we booted up for the first time, but we don't know the username, and we've tried default
Hi Cisco Sal. lol calling you like that, nevermind, I like this kind of videos, very educative, I saw the other about update the firmware, was a great help. Now I am having a little trouble, when you say about the model of the Phone, I will used mine as example for void any other cofunction, the model it Cisco 7821-k9, there no way even using TFTPD to manage this IP Phone connected to a PBX service.I Install the lastest firmware of Cisco about SIP, I was using a TFTPD to upload a SEP Conf XML format, but the phone gets stuck on Registration in Progress screen, if I click on Setting I can barely see the name of the ext, example I made using the XML file and upload. Now the TFTPD are looking for CLT and ITL file on tftfpd folder.can give any tips
What call control service are you trying to use? Unless you have the mpp/3pcc phone it won't work. Also on the mpp/3pcc phones you don't update three firmware like that. That process is only for cucm reg phones. Thanks
My phone it K9, the call control it Elastix2.0.... right now i can see the ext name and everything, but it stuck on registration in progress, there may be a way to disable the registration, right?
Hi Isaac Very nice video. Unfortunately i found this video very late. I just received 8865 + Expansion module, and came to know from your video that it will not work with Third party :( Is there anyway i can use this phone with 3rd party? I hope i can. Spent almost $500 ($300 for 8865 + $200 for expansion module)
Hey Sal... how exactly do you upgrade to the CUCM firmware from the 3PCC? Everything I've read says that you need to set the Enable Enterprise Image Upgrade option to "yes" in the provisioning tab, but it isn't there. Our 8861-3PCC is running sip88xx.11-0-1MPP-477. I can't see anything in the latest documentation that shows how to upgrade to the enterprise firmware either. Has that option been removed?
Good question! I don't see any release notes for this release. Usually if there was a change it would be listed in there. Do you have SWSS coverage on CUCM? I would reach out to TAC. Other than that I am not seeing anything.
hi issac, i just buy a new 8861 ip phone, i don't have a cucm, i want to register the phone to asterisk, when i tried to upload the configuration files to the phone through tftp, the phone told me no trust list available, and it's not accept the files. can you help me out
Got a question. For onsip how to generate a activation code for a 8851 model?
You will have to call them.

Oh and is there a way to easily add custom ring tones to this phone?
hello guys , what about 7821 model ? i cant configure it in any way please help
Did you buy the correct 7821 model? It should have 3pcc in the part number. You have to buy that exact model. There is no conversion today.
Do you have the 3PCC version of this phone? It will have 3PCC in the model number. You can not convert a standard phone to 3PCC today. You HAVE to purchase the 3PCC version.
Cisco Sal thanks a lot ,that really helped me. Sadly i have to purchase another one
Does anyone know why Cisco built these phones in a way that makes it incredible difficult for end-users? The firmware limitation is a joke!
To be honest, I don't know why. This was the decision they made above my pay grade :)
We purchased the Cisco 8861-3PCC. We tried pulling up configuration utility but it's requesting Username and password. The password was set when the phone we booted up for the first time, but we don't know the username, and we've tried default
Have you tried admin or user?
User, was the key. thank you I knew it was something simple
K9 just means that the phone is capable of strong encryption. You need to use a 3pcc phone. Model number should be CP-7821-3PCC-K9=
Today you can not flip a cucum phone to 3pcc. You need to purchase the correct phone.
Hi Isaac
Very nice video.
Unfortunately i found this video very late.
I just received 8865 + Expansion module, and came to know from your video that it will not work with Third party :(
Is there anyway i can use this phone with 3rd party? I hope i can.
Spent almost $500 ($300 for 8865 + $200 for expansion module)
Sanket Patel there is no way. I would return the phone and get the correct one. Thanks.
Hi All, Can i register this 8861 3PCC phone to Cisco call manager. By mistake we purchased this phone.
+Mohammed Majid yes you can change the firmware to the cucm firmware.
Hey Sal... how exactly do you upgrade to the CUCM firmware from the 3PCC? Everything I've read says that you need to set the Enable Enterprise Image Upgrade option to "yes" in the provisioning tab, but it isn't there. Our 8861-3PCC is running sip88xx.11-0-1MPP-477. I can't see anything in the latest documentation that shows how to upgrade to the enterprise firmware either. Has that option been removed?
Good question! I don't see any release notes for this release. Usually if there was a change it would be listed in there. Do you have SWSS coverage on CUCM? I would reach out to TAC. Other than that I am not seeing anything.
Thanks Sal... we're just going to exchange it for the non 3PCC model.
That works too!
hi issac, i just buy a new 8861 ip phone, i don't have a cucm, i want to register the phone to asterisk, when i tried to upload the configuration files to the phone through tftp, the phone told me no trust list available, and it's not accept the files.
can you help me out
What is the model number of the phone? You will need to make sure it is the 3PCC version.
Thank you
