As someone else has said Wolf Johnson did a great BTS of this video shoot and he just released an extended version that really shows a lot of the making of stuff
Great reaction. As per comments below, it is worthwhile checking out The Wolf Johnson's great behind the scenes extended video (Wolf - a reactor, was invited by Ren to film the behind the scenes footage). This is a very long over 2 hr watch, however at 2:05:30 through to 2:10:00 you will hear and see Ren sitting at that piano winding down playing a beautiful piece and then describing to Wolf how he is self taught and then a conversation with the second Pianist: Charlie Woof-Bryne about the performance. The piano score and strings score (apart from the opening piece played by Ren) were written by Ren. Kia kaha from NZ

Another great insight, Lynzi. Glad you noticed the rings at the start, that's how I knew it was Ren, even though I've seen his accomplished keys on For Joe (that's a box of tissues song for sure). You're right, he's trying to impress his dad, when it's clear that is never possible. Kind of a nurturing story gong wrong. Yes, the societal observation is clear, our peer and parental pressure can send us down inappropriate roads. Yep, a one take, except for the wheel chair section, when the camera goes behind it, necessary to set the string quartet up. You mentioned you'd like to know how this was put together, there is an amazing story of reactor Wolf Johnson, who failed to record a Ren reaction properly, Ren saw it, loved it and set up a surprise for Wolf, inviting him to UK to be the BTS film maker. Not to react to but here's a link to that, well worth a watch! ruclips.net/video/HIjF5g5eDDU/видео.html

That's a bespoke tailored suit Ren had made specifically for this music video, there was no way he would get that wet. The camera cut was specifically done so they could move his lapel mic and put it in a waterproof bag and conceal it in his tie... just for the Rain rain... Rain rain call back. My fave bit about the whole video is that Ren tried to hire a grand piano for the shoot but couldn't get hold of one, Then Yamaha stepped up and loaned him one of theirs with a technician to make sure it was tuned you musty be doing something right if someones willing to loan you a £100,000 piano lol. Interestingly though, Ren's live video's have normally come with a budget of around £1,000 the success of his pre Album launch you tube video's massively pushed by reactors like yourself on you tube and other platforms, the budget for Money Game III was £35,000 the most ambitious video he's ever made.

Really enjoying your very raw and honest REN reactions Lynzi, thank you 🙏. He regularly floors me, always takes me a few re-listens to start to understand how masterful his works are! Aside from how insanely beautiful and emotional all of his pieces and performances are, it's also so so layered with intertextuality. His final line in Money Game 3, in this case his fathers words echoing to him at the very end ... "it's such a damn shame". This reminded me of how for both Jenny's and Screech's tales he also uses this same phrase ... "and it's such a sha-a-a-a-ame". I remember commenters saying that one of his inspirations for Jenny & Screech was seeing a news report in London where a young girl and boy had died on the same night, a street apart, and the police officer quoted as saying "it's such a shame". I think this phrase is emblematic for him, maybe of our collective desensitisation, possibly our hopelessness too, we see this happening every day, the perpetual violence and loss of life, and we don't know how to change it. IMHO "it's such a shame" is a form of acknowledgement of surrender, what can we even do about this, how can I (we) change something that's this BIG, at a society level, it's just so enormous it's beyond us. Inter-generational abuse and suffering in the example of Jenny & Screech, and in the Money Games the game we are all to blame for, we are all playing, the pointless quest for money, whether to survive or to get rich, because we keep on playing it knowing full well it will never lead to happiness for everyone. REN is pointing a mirror at ourselves, empathetically. This is our story, the human story, a beautiful but tragic tale 🥲. But there's always HOPE ... "I go by many names also ... some people know me as HOPE". By telling these stories, sharing our stories, by shining a light where few of us would comfortably choose to look, we begin to understand and empathise, and where there is understanding there is HOPE ❤🩹✨
This is another 1 take that makes it even more phenomenal. Ren creates, writes, performs. produces, and directs. The only help is his camera man, and additional actors in this one. I see this video very much as a mix of Scarface meets Citizen Kane - with a scathing anti-capitalism focus. Ren sitting in front of the strings is such a strong callback to Tony Montana sitting behind his 'snow' covered desk.
Oooh, I didn’t catch the Citizen Kane before you said this. The first “Money Game”, after watching again, some of his mannerisms like with the baseball bat remind me of the droogs in A Clockwork Orange.
Society sews the seeds of its own destruction by way of anti-social messages all around us -- accumulate as much wealth, power, and status as you can; lie and cheat to get ahead of others; use and betray people; and resort to aggression or passive-aggression to take what you want (e.g. waging war for territory and resources). Ren walked us through Jimmy's exaggerated life in the money game (i.e. not "money" per se, but the social game in which people keep score in units of money). Near the end, he reflected back on Jimmy's childhood. This highlights how the money game turned "a child into a killer" (of himself) with "[h]is finger on the trigger of a money game", the line from part one. That makes me think of a line from the film "WarGames" -- "the only winning move is not to play". I disagree with the "build utopias" line, however. That's impossible. But maybe he's just talking about making a better world. There's always the possibility for improvement from the perspective of our current values, and values evolve over time.
My take on the beginning of this video is Ren was blindly in the money game (playing the paino with the money sack and noose on) when he had a contract with Sony and then he got sick and lost it and someone else came along and filled his place. After that he had the chance to "look in the mirror" and see the truth about the money game (took the sack and noose off). Now, he has clear insight and needs to share it with the world before we self-destruct (mold will grow upon the surface and consume till it dies). 🤔
This is not a one-take but a one-shot with only 1 cut behind the wheelchair. Ren says it himself in this video - ruclips.net/video/FGTC1abjwcE/видео.htmlfeature=shared&t=3135 around 52 minutes in. Behind The Scenes - ruclips.net/video/CdEFYPef7RU/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Back for a second watch. Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole!!! Wait till you see him live busking out on the street!! I shot the sheriff is great. Every song has been great!!! 24:49
Why are your eyes closed? Ren is well he tells the story with his lyrics obviously but his facial reaction. He's very animated and helps with the song ie story. Odd
Hey friend! My eyes aren’t closed. My computer screen is in the lower corner so it might look like my eyes are closed, but I promise they aren’t. 😂 Unless I misunderstood your comment.
Money Game Part 1 & 3: Now Ren has explained parts of the symbolisms he uses throughout this series, like the Sack Man (the person playing the guitar in #1) he's a representation of the person who's playing the money game (he represents everyone, he's us the viewers). We are the faceless in this money game, like people walking around with 💰tied over our heads. In MG3 Ren, in a brilliant artistic performance, brings the hook along with many of the examples of societal teachings of greed he rapped about in 1 & 2 to life in a single character named Jimmy.❤🤯 Now here's a copy & past of breakdown of MG1 by [reactivereplays5666] & IMO he's got it 💯right and I'm just way to lazy to type it all out myself. lol. "@reactivereplays5666 6 months ago A full analysis on the music video for MG Pt. 1: The kidnapped individual was a 'defendant' in a 'trial' with the psychotic Ren accusing him and acting as Judge/Jury/Executioner. Ren's character, through the song, goes on to explain the individual's crime: being part of a money game - a twisted game where people are divided and suffering for the sake of wealth. People who are willing to exploit their peers get ahead, and other are forced to do bad things for survival. Each time he gets close to exacting punishment and killing his victim, he stops to continue explaining more ways we twist our lives for that wealth. He even symbolically draws eyes on the head of the3 sack man to signify that the victim isn't blind to it: the captor has 'opened his eyes'. He has no excuse and deserves this punishment of death. Finally, with one final attempt to do the deed, Ren's character realized the futility of what he's doing. Looking in the mirror, as per the lyrics, he is also part of the money game. And so, he puts aside his holier then thou attitude and burns himself to death instead. As he said, as assuredly as the whole world turns while playing this game, the whole world burns as well.".
@@rogerstarkey5390 It's Ren's description of the Sack Man that he's stated in a couple of recent interviews, but the full analysis of the music video MG Pt. 1 was written by @reactivereplays5666 over 6 months ago & I agree with his hypothesis & ultimate conclusions. Cheers ✌

Money Game Part 1 & 3:
Now Ren has explained parts of the symbolisms he uses throughout this series, like the Sack Man (the person playing the guitar in #1) he's a representation of the person who's playing the money game (he represents everyone, he's us the viewers). We are the faceless in this money game, like people walking around with 💰tied over our heads. In MG3 Ren, in a brilliant artistic performance, brings the hook along with many of the examples of societal teachings of greed he rapped about in 1 & 2 to life in a single character named Jimmy.❤🤯 Now here's a copy & past of breakdown of MG1 by [reactivereplays5666] & IMO he's got it 💯right and I'm just way to lazy to type it all out myself. lol.

A full analysis on the music video for MG Pt. 1:
The kidnapped individual was a 'defendant' in a 'trial' with the psychotic Ren accusing him and acting as Judge/Jury/Executioner.
Is that Rens' description or your interpretation?
@@rogerstarkey5390 It's Ren's description of the Sack Man that he's stated in a couple of recent interviews, but the full analysis of the music video MG Pt. 1 was written by @reactivereplays5666 over 6 months ago & I agree with his hypothesis & ultimate conclusions. Cheers ✌
