  • Having changed from an 18t gearbox sprocket to a 20t item, it was time to see what difference it made - and what a difference!

Even from my armchair that bike sounds happier.
The owner is gonna be delighted.

My thoughts exactly. Sounds sweet and quiet compared with my rattly A50!

Surprised you didn't take 2 teeth off to comply with Drakesfords new 20mph default speed for prams overtaking you!

In Canada with our extensive highway systems I've always considered 17/18 tooth sprockets as sidecar sprockets; 19/20 as scrambler run about sprockets; and 21/22 as highway sprockets. She is certainly better than she was, that's for sure.

Poor reliability , oil leaks , makes me wonder how much incompitence played a part in british bikes getting a bad name.seems to me compitent mechanical maintinence makes all the difference .It did with my t 140v triumph.(always regretted selling it) .bsa sounds great 👍

Fantastic, is really sounding good. Glad the owner is getting a brilliant bike back. Did doing the fork oil make much of a difference?

I'm jealous. To do the ton maybe 21 tooth This gearing seems ideal. 20 mph not too tricky

That’s one really good bike now.
From the sound do you think it’ll pull a 21 or even 22?

I haven't 'liked' your comment, for obvious reasons. This dog was run over while still a puppy - it obviously didn't learn from that.

Paul, If your taking a vote, I would say this is the best sounding bikes you’ve had on your channel in a long time. A joy to watch and hear on the open road. Cheers on a job well done. Dan 👍🏍🇨🇦

These test rides are my favorite part. The engine sounds so healthy and crisp. Just a blip on the throttle and it revs right up. Not only does the engine have several new parts but also remember it has no carbon build up at all. The valves and piston tops are all clean. The bike sounded the best it has this time. Maybe the gearing change?? It still has a ton of low end torque. The owner is getting a brand new A65!!!!

I like the steadiness of one carb .Sounds much better at low end than dual carb English bikes.

G'day Paul, l went up one tooth on the front sprocket of my 2022 Royal Enfield 650 and normally it was doing 4000 rpms at 60 mph and since the new sprocket at 60 mph it's dropped to 3600 rpms with no drop of take of speed and better mileage out of the fuel, your doing a fine job on the BSA, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

Funny thing...a friend and I were discussing engine sprocket change overs on his BSA just a few days ago. I suggested a 20 tooth sprocket might work well for his requirements... now I'm sure. :)

Much much better now. I've been thinking about going up one tooth on my SV1000, from 17 to 18 teeth but am unsure about chain drive chain clearance on the swinging arm, as I have a jackup pair of tie rods on the monoshock. The bike steered like a lorry beforehand. It's doing an indicated 80MPH at 5,000RPM with the standard 17/42 setup, which seems a bit busy for a 1000cc V twin. Mind you, with the 20MPH speed limit, is it worth bothering ?
