The synopsis alone makes me want to kill myself. On the verge of wasting her life in theory, she reincarnates as someone using practicality to get back to her life wasting away in theory again. It's probably just my time working in my college library talking, but I want to burn it down. Not necessarily the books, but the culture.

She also always brought the ever-hesitant Urano along, who wanted to do nothing but continue reading. Their house was filled with those arts and crafts works, but every single one of Urano’s projects was accompanied by one made by her mom. I don’t think Urano’s mom was all that interested in arts and crafts, but instead wanted her daughter to find an interest besides reading. Bringing her along for the chance that Urano might like the activity after all. She loved her, and this was one of her ways of showing it. I can’t imagine the grief she must have felt when her daughter met her demise, buried under a pile of books.

This is practically the best isekai I’ve seen yet. MC isn’t OP. As a female MC, she definitely has character flaws and works on them, as well as suffer from setbacks to her plans and life. Things don’t literally fall into place, but she actually works towards her goals and makes accomplishments; accomplishments that she is rewarded with to further her primary ambition, but also presents new obstacles in various forms economically and politically. Sacrifices made not just for her goals but for safety too.
This show had me wanting more with each passing episode, rather than just easily predicting the outcome from the first 3 mins of the first episode…*cough cough* (Weakest Crest).
I hope for more of this show as I’m sure it’s yet to be finished. This is storywriting! This is character development! Myne is the kind of female main character I want to see in media that’s not just some “you-go-girl” joke of a character that’s only there for sex appeal or getting easy handouts. This is a strong independent woman, starting with nothing and rising to the heights.

@@matt-jv8gh her power is a double-edged sword. She’s strong but unskilled, powerful to use but at the cost of her life. And she’s only prone to using it as a power of her duty and not simply bulldozing through her problems. But when she did use her power to Force choke a certain someone, I was hyped to see it happen. And that took nearly a season and a half for it to happen simply out of fear and losing control. It was glorious to see. Any other OP isekai MC, I’d get so bored of it so quickly. Here, it’s not used to so much, it’s not relied upon, it’s not a crutch. Myne’s wits and intelligence is her strength!

I enjoy how in this anime, her being from another world is actually something that comes up as she’s functionally overwritten the person she came to take the body of and it’s taken as a serious issue. It’s sad. Many isekai get around it since they don’t get isekai’d in the same way and in other isekai, the person kind of becomes a fusion of the two. However there are some where you have to ask… did… did the original person functionally die? Like Lady Katarina… of course the idea is that they were pretty nasty anyway, so it’s okay, but at that point anyway, they were children, and it’s not like people are just born evil… though I suppose that rule could be different in a fictional world.

I can highly recommend reading the light novel for Ascendance of a Bookworm, it is much farther along than the anime (obviously) in its english translation and you get so much more details about her struggles and daily life as a peasant, shrine maiden, and beyond.

You're going to have to give us season 2 and season 3. Also, if you really like this series, please do help the author by getting the light novels; the funny thing is, where the anime ends in season 3, is when the real story really starts for the MC. To give you an idea, the 3 seasons of Anime cover Part 1 vol 1-3, and part 2 vol 1-4 (7 total volumes). There are 3 parts that follow this so far adding an additional 23 more volumes, so the anime only covers about 1/4 of the story released so far.

This is an amazing LN series. The anime up through S3 so far currently covers the first 2 parts of the anime, which is only 1/4 of the current translated story! This story is long and can be a bit slow, but if you enjoy world building and character development, this is one of the best LNs out there

I've not watched season 2 yet, but Season 1 was a true treat. I absolutely adore Urano/Myne. The way she has to cope with suddenly being expected to show affection to parents that are not TRULY her parents and to a sister who is not TRULY her sister is so heartening and I was genuinely tearing up at times whenever I saw Myne happy. Season 1 was a trip of feel-good moments that I think many actually need. As mentioned I do not know how season 2 will be, but season 1 made very solid foundations.
The main characters are all endearing and affable. There is no needless drama and pointless envy/jealousy (aside from Gunther's endearing jealousy of Otto "stealing" his daughters affections for a bit) and even characters I expected to be rude or obnoxious defied expectations and were rather kind and sweet. Likewise the other way around with the High Priest when he suddenly made a shift seeing Myne's parents and going from a kindly man to an utter monster because of their social status. Something which took Gunther well within his expectations and he knew what would happen.
Myne grew to become one of my favorite anime characters. She is just such a treat to watch and to see her grow. I want to see her smile every damn time. I want to see what she does next. I also would love to see what comes of her magic potential as she can clearly destroy people with but a stern glance, but I am not going to disappointed if the series avoids that path as I very much enjoyed that simple, casual slice of life setting it had until Mana and Magic was introduced following her "diagnosis" (or rather before when they went to the Merchants guild) of Devouring. I simply enjoy the characters so much, Myne in obvious particular, that whatever path it takes I am looking forward to it.

Okay so, what this anime teaches me is that due to the fact that people in medieval times know how to do things for the entirety of their lives training for it.
Giving them our knowledge would just make them super stronk.
That little sewing hook scene is a good example.
