Now I Can Finally Read the WEB Bible Translation!

  • I’ve been looking for a decent copy of the WEB in print for a while. I checked several sites and only found paperbacks and poorly made one. Little did I know the WEB was sold by a small publisher called Broken Yoke. I’ve made a covenant only to read physical bibles so I was beginning to think this one was off the table.
I know very little about the WEB other than it is an update of the ASV, and is based off the Majority aka Byzantine Text. I will be reading this translation late summer and I will be sharing my experience with you along the way! If you want to read it as well the website is below.
    Ecumenical Edition:
    brokenyokepublishing.com/prod...
    Regular Edition:
    brokenyokepublishing.com/prod...
*This Bible was provided at no charge for my honest opinion.

We got a WEB spiral bound journaling Bible set from Etsy last year. It is pretty cool it doesn't have a copyright.

My six year-old let the cat out of the bag. I've got this coming up for me on Father's Day, almost certainly the Ecumenical Edition.

The WEB is a perfectly good base text for people who want a free translation to use for a commentary: it still has the Tyndale-KJV DNA in there, so it reads well in passages that call for a high literary style, but it often opts for the slightly more casual (but not chatty) form of English you'd find in the CSB. And since you don't have to worry about pleasing a publisher, you can criticize the translation choices all you want if you're unhappy with them. (And if you happen to prefer certain choices in a mainstream translation over those in the WEB, you can always briefly cite that translation's phrasing at times without violating their 500 word quotation cap.)

@@anickelsworthbiblereviews Apparently, some publishers won't approve the use of the NI... whatever translation they own for use in a commentary unless the writer agrees to go easy on it.

You answered my question on if this would be a rebind candidate. Very very interesting I have watched those interviews and knew exactly what this was. I just didn’t know it was in print yet. I love bringing these different translations to my Bible study. Now we need BSB to print their majority version that’s currently available only online.

Interesting! Hey, maybe you'd like to read through the CEB (Common English Bible) or the NCV (New Century Version published by Thomas Nelson) or even the CEV. You can find all of them on ebay if needed haha

It is always nice to have a translation available in actual print. However, technically, this is not the only edition in print.
There has been a WEB Bible in print for several years. The only thing is, it came with notes on Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons - from David Reed. The only difference (besides the notes): the WEB Bible uses ‘Yahweh’, while Reed’s edition uses ‘Jehovah’. It came with two covers: One was a plain black cover that did not mention that it had the notes within. The other cover made it obvious that there were notes within.

Could you please outline your process for reading through a translation in 90 days? Do you go straight from the front cover to the back, or do you go back and forth between the testaments? How many chapters do you read each day? Do you read in multiple sessions a day or just one? Etc.
I am reading through the entire ESV in 90 days in preparation for starting seminary this fall and putting together a plan presented several difficulties and questions of method

    • @christianrockmusiccollective
      @christianrockmusiccollective Месяц назад +3

I just use the 90 day reading plan on YouVersion. Cover to cover. Start to finish. It’s about 10-12 chapters a day on most days. About an hour of reading. Sometimes I do it all in the morning, but if I get overwhelmed I break it in half. I’ve actually made a video on how to read the Bible multiple times in a year.
