I think the number 1 thing I miss is the affection in The Sims 2. The sims were so tactile and it made relationships feel more real and more truthful. The Sims 3 was still good for it, but by 4, it was kind of lost. I always find that sims in the Sims 2 were more real, and while CAS and building has been perfected, the realism in their behaviours and actions was so good.

    • @anatosic7323
      @anatosic7323 2 года назад +19

I completely agree. They would wave to each other in passing, they immediately start talking and their social improves just by sitting next to someone else. Makeout and cuddling, children's interactions with other kids and adults, toddlers, they are all human-like. Sims 3 sometimes and Sims 4 almost always do not respond to their environment. They are just like robots living parallel lives. For example teens in Sims 2 would hate like a step mother or a date of their parent after the divorce, or if a parent had a child with someone else, they would not like that child. I did hate the jealousy and never did know how to turn that off, but it did add to the drama and story telling.

I literally go to Sulani in Sims 4, bring a tent and off the grid shower, and camp on the beach for a couple of days when I have days off. I do not like the adventure concept at all, usually buggy, and not really as exciting. It made sense in Sims 2 to collect objects, learn things. This way it's just like a bad game you would not play on its own. Sims 3 did it particularly badly, I could not stand those vacations. Sims 3 - cellphones and smartphones are all around / 25 years later - Sims 1 - A ban on cellphones? Only landlines allowed? / 25 years later - Sims 2 - cellphones are making a progressive comeback, but are harder to get than 50 years prior.

Older sims games had a lot less variety in clothing I think. Or at least I had maybe 3 sets of clothes everyone wore because I didn't enjoy the others. Sims4 (especially the expansions), had a greater variety of clothing and more options, so even if I only used 10 outfits, it was at least a different outfit per person in the household.
I also don't miss the difficulty spike when kids got involved. Admittedly, I was much younger when sims2 first came out, but I remember it was game ending if I had 2 toddlers at the same time (either i lost the kids or lost the parents). By 3 the toddlers could kind of take care of themselves a bit better but if you had a daycare you basically needed 2 adults to take care of 4 kids. Sims 4, you just put down an 8 serving dish and leave them be or focus on taking care of them in a micromanaging way.

    1) An actual, dedicated apartment system (they did not really replicate this in any usable way and it was honestly my favorite part of the entire TS2 game)

Being a 90’s kid. Grand theft Vice City, HALO CE, Metroid Prime and the Ghost Recon were some of my favorite games but Sims 2 just has a special place in my heart that no other game has filled and I’ve been playing video games here and there since 1997~98. Medal of Honor Frontline was super fun story and Halo 2 multi player were awesome and Halo 3 story and online was my favorite but Sims 2 and Sims 3 just filled my top list

Shout-out to the early 2000s. I was a latch key kid and my parents were scared I'd get kiddynapped on my way to and from school so they gave me a swanky flip phone. I took so many sepia photos.

I so much like the shade you throw at ts4 hahah I have always loved sims 2 and still playing it after 12 years. Sims 4 feels lifeless and lacks personality and while i very much love sims 3 i just cant bare the load time. Thx for this insightful video, keep up the good content

I feel like back when they were making the sims 2 it was so revolutionary and the game was their child they poured so much love and devotion into this next superior generation of life simulator because it was like "WOAH your little people can order a pizza and WOAH look each piece comes off its so realistic" and it was so immersive. By now I think they just see it as already done and its about making a new game to stay relevant and maintain profits rather than introduce something revolutionary

I got a pink Razor when I was 10 because my mom's class schedule for that semester didn't allow her time to walk me to the bus stop for school. So she got me one to call her incase anything happened. Which, something did happen and thankfully my mom's class had gotten canceled that afternoon so she was home.

I don't play TS4 x many reasons but I gotta mention this feature you might have missed, even if someone else has already pointed it out.
Now, if you make your household sim "set the table" you want them to dine or eat in general as a family they won't get up from their chairs. Since I don't play I can't be sure but I've seen many others point it out on many videos. I dunno, if in restaurants it works all the same.
Anyways, I miss the sims 2 details aswell...

Heated pool thing makes so much sense! I'm so tired of my Sims dying every time they decide themselves to take a dip in the pool in the winter. Is there a feature that allows us to heat our pools in the Sims four?

Sims 2 are superior to all other versions. I wish they kept improving on the amazing game they created instead of just starting from scratch with something more and more disappointing. I love Sims 4, but Sims 2 was a much more complex experience

  • @aa-le9vu

I really don’t like how the Sims 2 doesn’t have hospitals (not like as a rabbithole, but I mean having my sims just go off the lot to it to give birth there) and I’m not a fan of the lifespan aging or the weird timeloop when my sims leave the lot.
But the fact that there are so many details and the effort they put into them in this game are incredible. It’s no wonder why people love the Sims 2 to this day and I don’t blame them. I just got into it and now I can definitely see why people love this and 3 over the sims 4.
Also yes the music was an absolute banger :>

Id love a modern twist on the phones in 4, where you can pay for a upgraded one, like there's default one that's there but a better version with full camera control would be a nice addition
