Good question- I can give some good general advice. Next video will be on goal setting, and within a week I’m planning on doing a series for exercises.
I got sucked into watching a few of your videos, tickled some curiosity. I do agree with you that "body positions" aren't the goal, its more managent of movement making best use of bio-mechanics. You said something that stuck out, along the lines of "looking like an athlete on bike"....i dont think this is the full picture, i see many like yourself who are athletically/technically sound, good, but not top tier, im really trying to work out what that extra is. Think top 10 world cup dh riders, they look, they move quite a bit differently to just your good, technically sound, athletic rider, what is it?
I’m 37 and started riding at 19 years old. I have arthritis in my knees and neck, and severe muscle atrophy in one side of my neck from high school football. When I ride behind elite riders(Neko Mulally and Dak Norton specifically) they have 100 times the experience on the bike than I do. I think it comes down to that. PLUS these guys do the same/more work as I do off the bike. Check out my episode with Dan Ennis where we talk about this in depth: ruclips.net/video/aJKY-N_KC9s/видео.html
@@mountainbikeacademy yes could just be bike experience. I had ridden bmx for 10 years before mtb, I'm yet to see one of my bmx friends get on a mtb and not look "right". But then I wonder is it experience? Is mtb not the optimal way to learn how to ride a bike? Is it that bmx and similar sets a mindset of "sessioning", working at stuff until it feels/looks right ie intentional practice?
I am a few months from 70, in Mindanao riding on rough mountain trails. Every time i see a young guy going on and on like this, i think how grateful i am that i started biking way back when none of this nonsense was around. Let me help you out, THE BEST BODY POSITION IS ON THE BIKE AND NOT ROLLING ON THE GROUND!!!
Thanks for the comment...I guess! Not sure if you're roasting me or not but I'm sure there's a thing or 2 I could learn if you've been riding that long. Peace! Check this out: www.loom.com/share/82f914d8a92e4425a40432532ba90477?sid=d06cf199-a363-4d90-8a80-eb013aac1a04
General advice is as far as I can go without knowing your actual situation - Most important thing is having a movement routine that keeps your balance, coordination, funcitonal movement, and strength intact. 40's = You can't recover from injury like you used to. 50's = your balance WILL decline unless you challenge it daily. Safest to do this off the bike. Second is be as clear as you can on your goals. I'll do another video soon enough about goals.
The skeleton riding analogy is one of the best things I’ve heard on this topic. Makes total sense .
Thanks! Hopefully it gets talked about more so the good work instructors put in has more impact!
My problem: FEAR. (without enough momentum and too much hesitant braking.... you're utterly ****ed on some features
Ooh interesting - I’ll gladly do a vid on this. Lots of riders encounter fear.
@@mountainbikeacademy yes, please 🙏
Agreed…. Can really relate to this… feel like my skills improve but I start to get scared when increasing speed trying them

Good. Something new! Now what exercises and practice to do?

Great question- how many years have you been riding, and what’s the one goal that if you achieved it would make you say “I did it!”?

Get a bike, put your ass in the seat, hands on the grips, feet on the peddles, push off and go!
I just cant seem to commit to gap jumps, keep casing them so hard I need a lawyer
Could be a bunch of reasons why. Do you have any riding footage of you jumping?
i can try to find some!
