it's actually good and incredible at the same time that players are bringing something new and unique on the table after so many years. Has' strategies are all around the containing of the opponent in the main, or at best the natural. He focuses on that, leaving behind all the common fundamentals (both strategic and technical) of the game. that is AWESOME, even if he loses (btw he got to the finals which is still a huge result).

This is such fun to watch gameplay. This game stagnates at the pro level so much that it's more like a formal dance and the one to lose is usually just the first one to make a mistake. To use a music analogy, most pro players are like math rock shred masters who have completely mastered their instruments but have no soul and Has is like an old blues player whose technique might not be the best, but they play three notes and you have goosebumps. If he makes the other pros start to play with heart, then so much the better.
It isn't breaking the norms. It's a new spin on the old cannon-rush before the TO's re-mapped ramps so they couldn't be blocked.
It's also not "playing with soul." It's simply playing with, "I can't compete with the best, so I'll use every cheesy shortcut I can come up with and hope to steal the win."
It is interesting - for now - but it will get old. That said, I do agree that the top level is a bit like a formality now. It's just perfect timing and mechanics to the point that you wonder why a calculator doesn't just decide who wins. Have you ever met them in person? They have such insane OCD at the concept of ever doing anything off script from a build order or timing perspective.
can you really call it cheese if it works on a consistent basis ?

In all honesty without a lick of sarcasm, this is one of the best finals I have ever seen. It is so refreshing to see a player such as Has at this level. He reminds me of my all time favorite player SoS but more extreme on the cheesy side. StarCraft is a strategy game but with most the pros playing the conventional ways even with their god-like apm and mindgames, it gets boring for me. But this, this I can watch all day long. This is why I love Has and SoS.
Sadface... hoped Has would take home the victory...
In a way - Has did win - because I usually find Starcraft matches utterly dull to watch, but this tournament I was glued to the screen.

Watching Has play has really made me appreciate Serral. Has just makes some blatant mistakes, losing those immortals in game 3 and stuff like that I really think he would have won some more games in this series.

You're right about serral interviews. Almost as emotionless as abuthur, but twice as efficient at zerg clearly.
If you've ever seen an interview by a Finnish dude, like Patrik Laine or Kimi Räikkönen... they're all exactly the same.

Nerchio did that vs Has earlier in the tournament and I guess Serral figured that it was a good idea. Serral is notorious for picking up strats on the fly and either using them or adapting them for his future games. The man is a knowledge sponge.

I don't think Has should have left Game 3. Without roach warren and spawning pool all Serral could build was drones and overlords. It is hard to kill zergling with immortals, but with some patience he could have done it. Spawning pool take a lot of time and also Serral couldn't afford much spending with that few drones. 200 minerals + 1 drone for the pool is a lot. If you want a roach warren as well you need another drone and 150 minerals. This is taking a lot of time. With good micro I think Has could have won, even with just 3 immortals.

Has played really boring this tournament. Yes, they were off meta builds, but he typically went seven gate zealot rush 80% of the matches in the ENTIRE tournament.

Winter does not want to play competitively because according to his own words he sucks. He would rather be a streamer / entertainer.
I wonder why the zerg never tried to 12 pool 13 gas when he knew he was getting cheese everygame.
I believe the mindset is that to win, he needs to both survive and have the economy to overcome the opponent. if you simply play a faster build for units, you lose out of the progression you are needing for the mid game, making Has's gameplan more effective.

Why? Serral is just overall the better player, that's why he wins everything outside of korea right now and cheese is definitly not what will break the brick wall that is know to us as Serral.

And why would "retarded" strats be good? Cheese definitly has it's place in Starcraft 2 but as soon as cheese makes it to the final of a big tournament, something is wrong. Oh and btw isn't it a lot more interesting to see 2 really good players (Showtime vs Serral) fight it out a final in long macro games from which you can learn to improve your own gameplay or would you rather watch this lame final with Serral stomping the cheese?
