Hey! Great to see my favorite backpacker out and about again! Glad the weather cooperated most of the time. Was gonna take my grandson camping up at the farm in NY state in about 2 weeks, but just found out a bear has been spotted close by. So I decided we'd do some car camping at Mt. Gilead instead! No need putting any unnecessary fears in him yet!! Heading to Myrtle Beach on Fridat for a week with all my family and grandkids, then he and I will go camp and get him in a hammock for the first time. Stay safe my friend. Enjoy these last days of summer!!
I took my first backpacking trip in the Smokies with a friend in June. We started at Fontana lake and intended to hike to Cosby but had to change our plans due to shelter closures (bears). We ended up hiking Fontana to Siler’s Bald then hooked up with the Hazel creek trail and went south. We turned it into a loop and hiked back to Fontana. It was a great hike. Your friend in the bivy is brave. I saw a huge timber rattler about 20 feet from my hammock at Silers Bald.
Great to see you on the trail. Took my oldest daughter for two nights at Cosby campground but Sutton’s Overlook was as far as we made it on the trail. Beautiful part of the park!
You could try clipping the carabiner to the continuous loop at the end of your hammock. Then, act as if you are trying marlin spike with the webbing, but use the carabiner as the spike. It makes adjusting easier
I’ve been wondering when you were going to make another video . I’ve wanting to do that hike for a couple of years now. I’m May try this fall when the leaves are turning . My wife and I did Icewater springs in November and nearly froze it got down to 9 degrees. Glad to see you back on trail.
What a beautiful place! Such a great time out there! Feeling of peace, what we would all need more!
Great to see you back...hope you don't take another long break the next time you bend a shit trowel.
Good to see you back, Tim. Don't wait so long next time!

I have whoopie slings which already make adjusting pretty easy.
