Another factor of CPD's manpower shortage I believe is that the current Police Academy built in 1976 is outdated and doesn't fit the department's needs. They are eventually relocating to a brand new facility on the West Side along with the Fire Department later this year with new training tools. At the current academy, They do scenario based training in the hallways, which doesn't give them the actual experience. So with this new facility, There will be a tactical training village that would prepare Police Officers for what goes on in the real world.
I don't blame them. They deal with so much everyday. You can only take so much, and they're life is always on the line. I think it's just too overwhelming.
This is a clear sample what's going on today on streets even police are under criminal threat I can't imagine what's going on with unarmed law-abiding citizens 🤯

The Chicago Police Department is hiring right now and the Officer I spoke to said that they have a goal of hiring over 1,000 officers, particularly young officers to deal with the manpower shortage. Currently there are 39 Recruits in the Academy at the moment which is embarrassingly low.
