Say Ciao! In this episode, we are focusing on fixing the old leaking roof just before the heavy rains started in Italy. We are also clearing the terrace in front of the house and preparing a delicious natural Elderberry/Sambucus syrup.

Elderberry/Sambucus Syrup Recipe
Ingredients:
4l of water
3kg sugar
300ml of vinegar
8 lemons
Preparation:
Boil the water together with the sugar and the vinegar for 10-15 min.
Put it aside for cooling.
Separate the flowers from the stems, if needed remove the insects and other residuals,
Cut the lemons into slices and put them along with the flowers into a big container.
Pour in the cooled-down syrup and cover it, and put aside for 24-36 hours and stir the mixture from time to time.
Filter the syrup with a clean cotton cloth, and boil it for another 10-15 min.
Pour the boiling syrup into clean bottles and seal them. Turn the bottles upside down and cover them with a warm cloth to enhance the sealing effect.

Wow! Mom did a great job! The porch looks so great now. 😊 In the one shot of the house, it looks flamingo pink. It looks gorgeous! Also, once you get things a little more settled, you might consider putting in a shed or small house for guests, because not that we've all found out about Corvara, we're going to want to visit and we'll need a place to rent!

When i was younger and in the US Air Force, i was stationed in Aviano. My favorite thing to do was cycling, as i still do almost every day 35 miles to 50. I do miss cycling in Italy for sure. Your views are outstanding. I do hope you keep that press and make some juice, etc. To clean off the rust, take it apart and soak in vinegar over night. gets rid of rust... Thanks for sharing. Your mom moves bricks around like a mason...lol Have you decided upon a garden? I hope so.. You might consider a hoop house...That's what i use and its nice, year round food.

Thank you for the recipe - love that part. My grandparents came from Italy - more to love about your journey. Don't sheep eat greenery instead of you having to cut it or are there other concerns? Wouldn't the leaves make good mulch so you don't have to dispose of them? What edible weeds and flowers are in the yard for tea? The captivating beauty of the old country. I will be following your delightful series with English captions for the Italian spoken there.
Ciao 🤗 Interesting to know that you have Italian roots. The sheep do eat the grass, but they also eat everything else, for example newly planted trees 😄 By the way, in spring the sheep are brought up to the mountains to graze there for the whole summer. We always dispose of the leaves in the garden, on the soil, so that it will enrich it. For the moment we found that we have John's wort on our land, you can see it in one of the later episodes 😊

It is very fortunate that you fixed the roof before the rains came! 👌 What a nice discovery finding roof panels fom 1888! The house does not look that old, maybe had prior renovations over time.🤔 Either way it still has 'good bones' and is a gem! 👍👍👍
