Another important thing to check, which I found out the hard way, (been flying for a year with no incident), I went out to get the fog and trees, my drone had been in my car overnight and was cold, the battery gave a false 3/4 charge indicator, went up 65 ft and about 400 ft out, got low battery warning, drone TRIED to "RTH" but never made it, I was able to retrieve it, but it broke, good thing for DJI Care Refresh, but ALWAYS make sure your batteries are warm before flying in the cold.. Great video, glad I found another helpful drone pilot 😊👏👍
Thank you for the helpful information. I used to fly rc airplanes and helicopters. The one helicopter i flew was used by professionals in large indoor and outdoor competitions. It was very difficult to learn. A quote back then was ...it is like trying to balance a marble on a plate. Now, years after a spinal cord injury, i have purchased a DJi mini 2 se, and I am doing my homework before flying. My dominant hand is compromised. I will be watching more of your videos as i found this one very informative. Thanks.
Thank you so much, Cristina! Although I'm still a little afraid of my first flight. I feel a lot better now after watching this video. By the way I have a lot of catching up to do. I had my drone for 1 1/2 years now almost 2 years 😳😂 " Wish me luck for my first flight!" Drone: Dji mini 2
My first time here, and would love to get a drone, but do not know a lot about operations. Somehow found your channel, and think I will stay around to learn from you. I am a senior living in the rural area of WV, lots of trees.lol. We have finally got trash service here, and we place our trash at the end of our king driveway out at the road for pick up. I go check after the trash company comes early morning to make sure trash was taken, and nothing out on the road with my walker, which for me a long walk. A drone would serve me to go to the road for me. Another thing is snow. We need to know how bad the toad is after a snow, and usually can’t get out to see the main road, so again a drone could see for us. Sometimes we do have windy days, and wonder how much wind is too much for a drone. I do not like having to hook a phone on the drone controller, wish that they came with their own monitors. I hope to learn more from you, and your channel. Thank You. P.S. We do not use FaceBook, so will only visit you here on this channel. Excited, and Grateful to have found you.
Every time you fly a drone, you should follow a preflight checklist before you fly. Verifying the return to home settings should be one of the very first elements in that checklist.
Best V id on this subject yet! thanks! quick question... you breifly mentioned that the RTH can be set to your controller; does that mean no matter where i move? i just lost my neo on a dense walking trail.
Thanks Christine, enjoyed your video and tips were laid out logically and explained clearly. I am a recent subscriber and recent flyer of less than a month. I am starting with the DJI mini 3 and learning and having fun! ...Derrick from Vancouver, Canada
When I long press RTH button, it says 'Return to Home Canceled'. Also this option never shows up in the app. Only the land option. Max height - 15 m and RTH height - 15m. Would you have any idea ?
Cool video my friend i have the mini 3 pro and have used her for all my RUclips videos but if I where you add definitely go for the mini 4 pro her brother its a game changer the mini i was getting about a mile maybe if even that but with the mini 4 pro you don't need hight and its all about the hight your at with the mini 3 pro like in that open car park your in she'll fly there with no problems at all but fly her over house's your just asking to lose the signal but if your up higher than the house's no problem at all with the mini 3 pro but with the mini 4 pro it doesn't matter the signal is way way better but am sure you know this anyway my friend
Thank you for a really helpful tutorial. As a newbie I used the RTH feature today on a dji mini 2se. The RTH didn't work because the drone was too high and wind was too high. I was able to lower the drone manually into lighter wind and then use RTH. I should say that the weather app said wind was less than 10mph! BUT what happens if emergency RTH kicks in, but the wind is too high?
It takes into effect your rth height with the battery. So if you have a higher rth altitude and your flying low you will have less available battery to fly around since its reserving the battery needed to go up over then down. What I do is I actually set it for way lower then I am flying to save battery. May the signal cut out on the rth home sure but eventually it will get back in range at that lower height. Good for winds incase you go up to 500m and its windy then your controller dies or something you knkw it will lower itself down and make its way back instead of fight higher winds the higher it is.
Suppose we are alway from drone or drone are at low level like 20ft in garden or under tress.sudenly we need RTH but if i had set RTH HEIGHT AT 200 feets.. My question is that when my dji air 3 prepear him for goto 200 feets (for set RTH position but drone are at under tress so what will b happened.. They did or not colapsed with tress..? Pls clear my confusion
I wonder why when I place my mini 2SE down and wait the phone says home updated and gives me the ready to fly message. Once I take off and later press RTC on the phone the drone doesn’t return to me it just tells me landing or something and starts to lower
Hi, I have a mini 2 SE and the option "please check it on the map" is lost I only ear "home point is been updated, do you know how to get this part back. Thank you
I use Apple Maps most. Cause ya just tap the screen and ya see the map again. But google maps you have to unlock the phone to see the map again. It’s a pain in the rear.

Hello I have a dji mavic 2 but when I click come back home it comes home but it stops and it goes up and it comes again then it stops and goes up again you don't know what can be wrong with it?
Mine is set to come back home at 100 feet but when I click the home bottom it goes up 100 feet then it comes my way but it's stops and it goes up 10 feet and it comes back home and it stops and it goes up another 10 feet can someone explain what's wrong .
im a newbie to drones...but I am confused....you re-set the return to home in the middle of the parking lot, yet it went for that tree when you activated return to home?????? I am confused.
Technically, losing sight of your drone can get you in deep trouble since it is illegal - as both a recreational or commercial pilot you ALWAYS have to be aware of where exactly your drone is - unless BVLOS certified or using a visual observer, you always have to maintain visual line of sight... But otherwise these tips are great!
"Maintain line of sight", yes, but that doesn't mean you in locked eye contact wiggling your eyebrows all sexy like at your drone during the entire flight
NO!.....that's not what vlos means or how it works. As long as you know where the drone is and can Intelligently operate it......otherwise how could FPV exist? I mean, you're in violation the second you take off as you are wearing VR goggles lol. Please don't contribute to the spread of misinformation The internet does enough on its own, it doesn't need any help.
Another important thing to remember also is before the making of this you tube video is do you have part 107 drone pilot license 🪪 so the FAA won’t give you problems, that’s right you need to pay for a license to make videos on RUclips.

WOOOOOO!!
Nice that also woman are interested in drones
That’s an intense thumbnail for a return to home video. 😂
10:58 You've got to block the downward sensors with a palm-catch, the drone should bounce before it lands.
🤘🏽 its why i love to turn off the sensors generally
What will happen if you purposely turn off your Rc then after 12 seconds you turn on again
in my experience it hovers until it's back on. I have a drone podcast episode with a drone pilot about his RC running out of batteries. the drone just hovered until the DRONE ran out of batteries.
Lol - yes, that sound has caused me to panic a few times....
lol! 🤘🏽
Hello I have a dji mavic 2 but when I click come back home it comes home but it stops and it goes up and it comes again then it stops and goes up again you don't know what can be wrong with it?
Its going to return to home altitude first, then it lands. Remember to set this higher then trees, buildings, etc in your surroundings
Mine is set to come back home at 100 feet but when I click the home bottom it goes up 100 feet then it comes my way but it's stops and it goes up 10 feet and it comes back home and it stops and it goes up another 10 feet can someone explain what's wrong .
@@JoseAnguiano-yl4jh hmmm drug test it maybe
Frist time, first reaction. Please begin to use Normalize audio before exporting 👍😀
Well said mam, such a very important tutorial...
thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
You need to update this video for 2024 with their fancy optimal RTH with bypassing trees and all that
i believe in you to do it! 🤘🏽
Wish i had watched this before I totaled my brand new M3P on its 2nd flight. RTH screwed me.
WHOOOOA
im a newbie to drones...but I am confused....you re-set the return to home in the middle of the parking lot, yet it went for that tree when you activated return to home?????? I am confused.
yes, she confused me on that one also!

But otherwise these tips are great!
Thank you so much!!!👍👍👍
If your drone is higher than RTH setting..RTH will stay at that high altitude..not decend to setting..
Why this lengthy sale pitch? Just tell us what to do. It could take less than 30 seconds.
Apple maps smokes google maps! just saying. cool video by the way.
Whooooa! A vote for apple maps!!
Legally you are supposed to have eyes on your drone at all times.
"Maintain line of sight", yes, but that doesn't mean you in locked eye contact wiggling your eyebrows all sexy like at your drone during the entire flight
5:10 copied.
Apple maps is as good or better than Google Maps because Apple doesn’t take over everything on your phone/tablet/desktop once you use it.
Oh yes! That sound of "RTH" is very annoying.
i hear it in my nightmares 😂😂😂
Only amateurs use return😮😢
don’t we all start somewhere? oh wait i forgot!! you popped out of the womb with a drone in your hand!!!!
Apple maps is better lol
a vote for apple maps!
You should never hand catch your drone with it facing you!!!! Always with the rear end towards you for safety
Any specific reason? It can go forward, back & sideways. So what’s with the rear preference?
meh. i disagree. but thanks for sharing your opinion!
my guess is cuz lookin at dat azzzz is always nice!! 🤘🏽
you do realise you broke the law in this video, when you let the drone out of VLOS, by flying it over the tree you were under..
To much rambling, don’t make it very easy to understand!
Thank you so much for creating your own free youtube videos that are exactly the way you want and are helpful to all! 🤘🏽
Another important thing to remember also is before the making of this you tube video is do you have part 107 drone pilot license 🪪 so the FAA won’t give you problems, that’s right you need to pay for a license to make videos on RUclips.
