- The Thermaltake Xray was one thing, but this Sunbeam deal from 2003? It’s another level of smoker’s PC drive bay accessory. ART, PASSION, CIGARETTES.
Here's the LGR Oddware video on that one: • LGR Oddware - Thermalt...

See my Thermaltake Xray video, it’s the same device: ruclips.net/video/_ErL39wqO-c/видео.html
these look like maaajor fire hazards! 🤣
@LGR Blerbs im pretty sure the purpose of the two trays in one box is to have a lid for the cigarettes so that they dont get covered in PC dust js
If PCs still had drive bays, I might start smoking again.... (btw, why does the ashtray need keying?)
I knew it! At least i was hoping i remembered that right
What a dumb concept . If you're a gross smoker who smokes inside, why not just use an actual ashtray, why would you strain your hand to reach a 5“25 bay on a pc tower that's on your desk.. or if the pc is on the floor then it's too low.. it's either too high or too low and it's impractical 😂
The ashtray one is genius. Its a self cleaning device. You ash your cig, and slide it closed. Then the PC fan in the system blows the ash all around your internals, and eventually out the back of the case. Genius.
This absolutely sent me when I got to the end. I mean, what's a little bit of caustic ash residue on top of the nicotine glaze? :D
Mmm... Nice and fresh office space!
I want one
Eventually😂
Hmm cigarette and nicotine sure does damage pc components. Wellp, better stick a fire starter and cancer sticks right into the PC.
You should do an "80s CEO smoker's build" with both of those as well as whatever else silly stuff would fit the theme.

there HAS to be a cigar version out there somewhere! 😂
@@CITIZEN-WITHOUT-RIGHTS oh man, yeah... missed opportunity with the identical removable tray. One could've been cigar-sized...
Standard car cigarette lighter thought of that, too, it should've been obvious... or maybe they wanted to have an accessory upsell for VIP clients 🤔
Imagine being at a LAN party back in the day and some guy there opens a tray on his PC and pulls a cigarette out and a lighter. I'd lose my mind.
It would be the guy with the full tower case. Not kidding, there was a guy that used to come to our Lans that had a modified 5.25 bay in a full atx that he used for this exact purpose.
I used to go to LAN parties in the late 90s early 00s, and one of the guys there actually had this in his tower, and smoked all the way through.
@@dakotart1984 well you had to put something in those 8 5.25" bays
It's not for "cigarettes"..... lol
@@nodataavailable That's amazing. I would have laughed my ass off.
As a smoker, who used to smoke around my pc, this is wild! I scream at the idea of retracting an ashtray INTO a computer, with an open drawer tray! May as well just dump a lint catcher into your tower 😂
It's genius. You never have to empty out the ashtray. It quickly disperses them throughout your case and your whole house.
So you know the tray is sized to hold 100s, which is what I was thinking.
Non smokers don't know they come in sizes.
@@postjm9 Yeah common knowledge for smokers but I wouldn't expect anyone else to know it

@@ColScoob oof to my presumption. Fair enough. 😏
I used to go to PC Cafes in the US that had these things slapped onto beige colored PC cases and everyone chain smoking while playing the newly released CS. Man what a time to be alive.
i miss that shit
Before I started the video I thought to myself "Counter strike gamers smh".
for real? Someone actually bought this?
You definitely need Candy Cigarettes for that. Just imagine playing Duke and opening the try to get Candy Sticks.
Gotta find the good ones though with the cherry red tips that actually look like cigs. I remember back in the 80's it was the Popeye brand that looked the most real 😅
they might melt in a PC, though. Especially one old enough to have space for all these whacky drivebay units
@@thesteelrodent1796 it doesn't get THAT hot inside a PC, sugar doesn't melt until past the boiling point of water! Gummy sweets etc melt a lot sooner because of the gelatine, but classic candy cigarettes are just plain sugar.
Or licorice cigars, even.
@@JeremyLevi those might be a genuine melting risk depending on drive bay cooling lol
The late 90's and early 2000's were a wild time for accessories. That Sunbeam is possibly one of the craziest I've ever seen.
2003 pothead me would've LOVED this and would've rolled doobies to specifically fit that drawer.
i miss those days. They were like the pinnacle of technology kind of days. Everything had that Frutiger aero design esthetic that had that utopian-natural look to it( think like the grass Windows XP background and Vista Aero theme) That " the future is near" kind of feeling. Dot coms were booming, tech stores were booming. The internet was a new, cutting edge kind of thing. Palm Trios and Blackberries were like the one sign that you were important enough to own one. All the cool kids had Sidekicks. Lan parties still existed. here we are in 2023 and im just getting old now lol womp womp
I had a boss with this at a call center he used it as an ashtray. I had to disassemble his computer almost weekly to clean it out.
How long until the system died?
Such a convenient addition to a pc

with all the coffee and cigarettes, a chamberpot-modded office chair would be a must 🤔
I appreciate that Clint rotate the lighter to be in the correct orientation when he replaced it.

I’ll go out on a limb and assume this is not the same Sunbeam that makes radiant toasters.
After a bit of quick research you are correct. It's a shame really. I was hoping the toaster people decided to be weird and try making PC parts for a bit but oh well.
@@chadmasta5 thanks for checking, i was secretly hoping for a sunbeam product to add to my pc, not that i smoke, but i thought maybe they made other cool gadgets as well.

When I worked in a computer shop in the early to mid 1990s, there was one case we sold that had a removable metal cup in a cupholder shaped depression on the top of the case. And a couple of times people who built a computer using one of those cases later had us work on their computer (probably for hard drive upgrades because we could copy their files and operating system over and they didn't know how to do it). Yup, the metal cups were being used as ashtrays and you guessed correctly that the inside of their system units smelled strongly of cigarette and everything had sticky brown tar all over it.
"Smmmmmoking!!"
I can't think of a worse environment for uncovered cigarettes than inside a PC. If you left them in there for any reasonable time, they'd come out drier than a .. erm.. thing that's very dry.
A nun's c*nt?
I actually like the jack part just because it will let you hook up devices that would only work in vehicles. That's less of an issue today, but back when that came out, it would've been great.
ART, PASSION AND SUNBEAM
Art, Passion and Nicotine
Back in the day, i used to moonlight as a repair tech at a friend's father who owned the business. And computers with cig smokes were some of the most disgusting... absolutely trash heap things ever. I never handled frontend, i didn't much care for the interaction, but sometimes i'd peek to see who actually owned these horrific things and all i can say is my expectations were never disappointed.
I was a smoker, but never smoked indoors because I hated other people's houses where everything was covered in yellow gunk. I collect/restore old tube radios, and let me tell you, it's a special kind of hell when powering one up before you clean it - HEATED GUNK. EVERY one of them has that sticky 30's through 50's cigar/cigarette smoke :(
I refuse to touch them. I turned them away every single time.
@@JustinEmlay I don't blame you. The smell when encrusted objects are heated is horrendous.
@@RandomRetr0 nicotine glaze! I don't blame you one bit.
You can be sure the PC's (barely) lasted any longer than the morons that smoked.
As someone who smoked in the late 90s while spending hours playing Unreal Tournament at home or at friends doing Lan party setups, would have totally bought one of these, they would have too. So ridiculous, but would have been all in back then 😂
Probably wouldn't have used either as an ashtray, but to have a lighter handy like that would have been useful haha
I had this! I actually had this spring loaded one. I didn't smoke, but the cigarette light adaptor got used as a phone charger and later USB charger whilst the drawer held coins and small pens.
I love Clint’s seemingly-reflexive response of “can’t tell me what to do” when it warns against touching the hot thing.
For a smoker that goes to LAN parties, makes perfect sense, no joke.
One thing it needs would be a lock else you use the bathroom and your cigarettes are gone 🙂
most people wouldnt ask before "borrowing" a cigg from you
love how it was smoking while heating up. Exactly what I need in my PC, a device that adds smoke to it XD
At the beginning I was fearing it would be used as an ashtray. Imagine the great smell coming out of the airflow of a ashtray PC.... This being said I had like 20 years ago a case that had a drawer (not using the CDROM/Floppy space though) and it was really useful.
I especially love that the ashtray is not closed, so an accidental knock.. or a fan.. can just spray the ashes all over the internal components.
had this, got too scared to use it as to not melt the pc case plastic XD
But i see you didn't get the cigarette lighter that has the "smoking logo" the wrong way around, having smoke coming from the filter :p
You should put a cigar in there for the occasional duke 3D playthrough
I used to do computer servicing and support for home users and had a couple of clients who were smokers, their computers were always in the worst condition - yellowed beyond belief, stinky, and coated in a sticky layer of grossness that made dust and dirt adhere to the parts. So glad none of them ever had a built-in cigarette holder or ashtray!
@Key DX7 lol
Oh yeah, my parents were heavy smokers and I always wondered why everyone else's SNES didn't turn from grey to yellow haha.

The cup holder looks just the right size to store a grinder.
A "roach drawer" does have a certain ring to it.
The thermaltake xray looks more like a place to stash your "herbs" than as an actual ashtray or ashtray holder (seems way too small and wouldn't want anything burning in my pc but something to hold the herbs on a lanparty is definitely something I would've used as a teen)
Both are a better idea for weed than for tobacco imho. I wouldn't ash into either, but a bag? Not inherently terrible... I guess.

If I ever went back into PC repair, and I saw something like this, I'd be adding a surcharge to the bill, purely called "The Cigarette Charge", having worked on nasty smokers' computers in the past, I'd have to charge extra for the disgusting odour and cleanup from spilled, nasty, tar-soaked dust escaping and getting all over me, finding components burnt out from being insulated by said sticky, nasty dust, all from past experience, and to think, they're doing that to their lungs as well... :S
Vape ones are even worse. There's not any ash or owt, but it coats everything with a very thick dark orange tar. Think like how rubber coating on like TV remotes and mobile phones go after 20 years.

@@pinrod1 you sir are my hero! Doing us proud!
You can be in Flavor Country and Game all at the same time 🤣
My dad was an oldschool programmer for a famous company and was himself a bit famous as well. If you're over 40, and you're reading this, you've interacted with his tech.
Anyway he was a smoker. I'd often find him deep in his work with a cigarette dangling out of his mouth that was just inches of ash. He'd burn em down to the filter, just letting them go like road flares or something.
Anyway, he told me something and I believe him, and it's this: When smoking was banned in California in workplaces, productivity went through the floor. Abruptly. Either people quit smoking and suffered the loss of the benefits of nicotine, or they had to take breaks to smoke outside, which was both disruptive to the flow state and terrible for morale.
When those oldschool nerds could smoke at their desks, they didn't take breaks. They didn't need em. I get why things went the way they did, I can't stand the smell of smokes even though I also smoked for 17 years. But it really changed the industry when it stopped being acceptable.
Lastly... I'm really surprised that pops never had one of these. It would have 100% been something he'd have considered had he been aware of it. But he never would have used the cigarette storage tray, as it would dry out the smokes and he'd have to refill the damn thing twice a day.
It's not really that marketable. Most people never heard of it. Who really goes to like the novelty section of a computer store regularly? It's not a typical browse shopping experience. Mostly when buying PC parts you'll look up reviews on what's good value parts at the time and go buy those parts. Most PC shoppers aren't thinking of piling on weird wingdings. It's a flawed product in that it just doesn't really have an audience. I think they mostly sold them direct to Netcafes.
With work from home increasing, I'd like to think more people are smoking at the work computer again, I know I'm one lol but not tobacco 😂
Bill Gates is your dad? Norton? Kaspersky? Carmack? Romero?

My first programming job was next to a heavy cigarette smoker. I could tell how long he worked on weekends by how many cigarette butts were in his ashtray on Monday. He also whispered his code as he wrote it down. This was before terminals.
The spring loaded tray would actually be super handy for holding USB drives and I could put the 12v socket to good use for something as well. I want.
Yeah, that 12v jack would let you use all sorts of vehicle accessories. It's less useful now, but, it would've been great back in the era of proprietary car chargers.
Today, I'd just use it as part of electronics test bench.
Dude no shit! I wamt one now too haha
@@InfernosReaper Yeah, I run my dashcam through the 12v socket so could use it for testing that also other accessories as you say. :)
My friend used this kind of socket for a cooler. We didn't know it existed as a product so we made it ourselves. I don't think we ever tried a lighter on it.
Probably a good thing I didn't know these existed back when I used to smoke. I'm sure my computers had *far* too much exposure to cigarette smoke as it was... Last thing I needed is an ash tray *INSIDE* the PC... LOL!
This brings back nightmare of working as a PC tech. You could always tell a smoker's PC once you opened it up. The interior is always coated with a unique mixture of dust and tobacco tar that's basically impossible to clean out.
I like to soak it in alcohol lol
O it's possible with elbow grease, the right chemicals like oxyclean, smoke removers, and sometimes some retrobrite solution, but the question is it worth your time, and money, and back in the day for the common smokers PC that was usually some store bought lowend junk, that answer was no, these days with retro parts getting harder to get, I would say yes if it's working, and what you want/need.
Or any electronics
That smell.. 🤢🤮
wait til you clean a vapers pc or game console they don't have the smell but the cleaning sucks just as bad.
"Here. hold my screws" - drops case screws into cup holder popping out the front of your Pentium 4 tower while popping a candy cigarette from the other bay. No drivers required.
Haven't heard you talk about your retro themed room for a while. I can't recall if you wanted to go for a 70s, 80s, or 90s theme, but I look forward to seeing more of it someday. 🙂
Nothing says, "My computer will go the distance!" Like installing a tray full of cigarette ashes right into the case. I'm sure the blowing fans in that case will ignore those ashes and not end up coating the entire inside with acidic, component destroying ash.
They actually probably will? The inside of a computer isn't a huge wind vortex, it is directed in and out in a relatively calm flow. Why do you think tons of dust settles in the 5.25 bay area when you clean one out? Also LOL if you think ash is any worst than regular dust, your hyperbole is off the charts man

Even if you don't smoke, imagine all the endless possibilities of using this to power all your accessories that have a lighter plug! ;) I'm not totally kidding, only like 85%...
Back when I worked at a computer repair store repairing this vintage of PCs I really wished we charged a bio-hazard fee for people that smoked near their PCs. I don't miss working on those things.
Because the dead skin and other particulates in regular dust is actually better? If anything the tar keeps it clumped better at least. If only it didn't have that awful smell.
the best part is using an acrylic case to showcase your stash of cigarettes, you know there will be yellow tobacco covered everything and ashes all over the desk. They should modernize it by having a "herb grinder" and roll paper tray.

Nothing says disgusting PC like that of a smoker's. Anyone who has worked on PCs knows what a smoker does to the inside of a computer. Yuck!
I had one recently that was so bad it looked and smelled like it had been in a house fire. I did my best to clean it out, including power-dusting it, and when the customer came to pick it up, I told him that I cleaned it out since it really needed it. He says "yeah, I know, I have dogs and a lot of dog hair gets in there." I didn't comment further to him.

I saw many an ashtray sitting on the CD-ROM tray. Trying to clean those PC's out was a nightmare. The dust just stuck to everything. I had to take them out side and use a electronics cleaner spray and hit everything in the case with it like a mechanic using brake clean.
That feeling when you're at a LAN party and your PC fans kick in and you give your friends lung cancer. Classic.
Your computer repair guy will absolutely love the sticky nicotine residue on all the components
