  • Basic Poker Math comes down to 5 steps:
    1) How often you get dealt a hand
    2) What your equity is hand vs hand
    3) How often you are holding a playable range
    4) How often you are facing a strong range
    5) How much you should bet and how often that needs to work
With these steps you'd figure out the basic math in any poker game, whether it's NLH, PLO or 2-7 Single Draw.

I love poker but I’ve always been bad at maths. Hopefully these videos will help but I truly do not know where to start when it comes to basic maths and poker.

I agree 100% as someone in poker for only about 6 months or so, I try to find stuff tj explain the math behind it, but I find it’s usually only suited for experienced players.
I have trouble understanding the math as well.
Most of these videos don’t factor in that most poker players don’t understand even the basic equity of math when it comes to poker and when they explain it, it’s still confusing

Excellent video. Is there somewhere where you can learn how to calculate the 5 fold equity math. Wanted the calculations of 1/4 pot bet and 1/3 pot bet.

I think there are charts out there that you can google for each bet size how often it needs to work (also with 0% equity and 10% equity etc)

I hate any pocket cards except for AA or KK. For some reason i never hit but everybody else hit trips on the flop when they catch. That never happened to me in 1000 hands. Now i gotta play em everytime (and lose) cause in bot gonna fold and then hit for one time in a million and miss it. I dont even play for money. Just losing is bad enough without cash involved. And winning 50$ is nothing, but losing 50$ that shyt would fuck with me for a year so its not worth it…. lol

You say there are 1326 combination, then you say "12 of them are off suit." That can't be right. And you start using the abbreviation "C." What does that mean? I was lost @1:00

    • @AndreasFroehliPoker
      @AndreasFroehliPoker  Месяц назад

Hey I've checked the time stamp in the video - C = Combinations. "12" refers to the number of AKoffsuit that are possible, for example "Ah/Ks" (Ace of hearts , King of spades) is one of them.

For any combinatoric question I'm using "Pro Poker Tools Odds Oracle". Most basic combinatorics are also researchable. I do coach a few poker professionals, if you want to learn the right things quickly, this is an advanced book: amzn.to/2Y073fR

I wish you had explained your math better. You said there are 1326 combinations in Hold'em but there are actually 13^5 = 371,293 poker combinations. Yes, that includes Hold'em. I'm just saying where did you get your numbers. You should explain that.

Why do people complicate poker with all this stuff, huh? 5 years ago, when I was learning how to play, I had to stop everything bc everyone was saying you have to have a good understanding in poker math in order to play winning poker. It took an hour, but I found the TRUTH. It is from Mike Caro. Pay attention to what he says. He says that having an intricate understanding of poker math WILL NOT give you an EDGE over other players. The two MOST IMPORTANT things to know are 1. Pot odds 2. Counting the pot. I am aware of basic odds such as 220:1 pocket Aces. 48:1 Flop 2 pair. 7.5:1 to flop a set if you hold a pocket pair. That is the extent of my poker math. I have been crushing 2/2, 2/5 and now 5/10 live for 4.5 years now. David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth started this crap. While some of it is useful, most is not. Again, Mike Caro thank you for helping me to not learn what I didn't need to know.

Congrats on winning up to 5/T! No offence, but most likely your opponents dont understand much about combinatorics. I dont care who wrote a book claiming x, but I know that knowing anything more than your opponents gives you an edge, if you are able to apply it ingame.

@@AndreasFroehliPoker, Mike Caro is a legend. He's in the Poker Hall of Fame. He's a mathematics guy. If he says all of what I need to learn is what I mentioned above, then I am going to listen to him. Look forward to ur next vlog, just as long as it doesn't contain anymore of this poker math nonsense.

@@jimmybroughton2956 What you mentioned is directly correlated with my 5th point in my presentation. Poker is not a simple game and reducing everything to pod odds would be disrespectful to the best in today's game - I don't think this is what Mike Caro was getting at.
No offense, but there are still too many live poker games at 2/5 where the average skill is super low and the only reason you're not flooded with money in those is that you're playing 25 hands per hour.

@@AndreasFroehliPoker, it's all good dude. I know what Mike Caro said. I spoke with him personally dude. There are a number of pros who use no poker math in their games. Poker has evolved into a game of intellectual arrogance. People like you perpetuate it.

@@jimmybroughton2956 reality is that the standard of play in NLHE is ever-increasing . When Mike Caro started playing, the game was A LOT softer than it is now. Ever since the existence of the internet and the high IQ population being drawn to the game as it is now more mainstream, it has become significantly more difficult. It is just like any money-making exercise, once the population realise that abnormal profits are possible people come flooding in; competing against each other until eventually the possible yields decrease (in this case due to players improving their skill level). Nowadays, all the best players are those with high IQs as they are capable of processing/understanding the complex information required to become skilled in Hold'em in modern times. This issue is already being picked up on by less intelligent players who complain about the smart players who come to the table and don't talk and say poker is no longer fun but in reality the more intelligent humans are coming to dominate...
