CLIP DESCRIPTION:
King Kong falls to his death after an aerial attack.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The film introduces us to flamboyant, foolhardy documentary filmmaker Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong), who sails off to parts unknown to film his latest epic with leading lady Darrow in tow. Disembarking at Skull Island, they stumble on a ceremony in which the native dancers circle around a terrified-looking young girl, chanting, "Kong! Kong!" The chief (Noble Johnson) and witch doctor (Steve Clemente) spot Denham and company and order them to leave. But upon seeing Ann, the chief offers to buy the "golden woman" to serve as the "bride of Kong." Denham refuses, and he and the others beat a hasty retreat to their ship. Late that night, a party of native warriors sneak on board the ship and kidnap Ann. They strap her to a huge sacrificial altar just outside the gate, then summon Kong, who winds up saving Ann instead of devouring her. Kong is eventually taken back to New York, where he breaks loose on the night of his Broadway premiere, thinking that his beloved Ann is being hurt by the reporters' flash bulbs. Now at large in New York, Kong searches high and low for Ann (in another long-censored scene, he plucks a woman from her high-rise apartment, then drops her to her death when he realizes she isn't the girl he's looking for). After proving his devotion by wrecking an elevated train, Kong winds up at the top of the Empire State Building, facing off against a fleet of World War I fighter planes.

FiveRound5 I think the remake was pretty good, you can tell the amount of respect Peter Jackson had for the original movie, my only problem is it dragged on for waaaay too long while the original told the story at a quick satisfying pace.
FiveRound5 I didn't say he was, although he does have his own masterpieces, all I said was you can see how much respect he has for the original.
FiveRound5 I'd watch the original over the remake any day.
For 1933, these effects are still pretty damn good.
They actually took the time to animate the anguish that Kong felt.
Not they he. Unlike today where there are dozens of animators that work on each shot there were only 2 animators for kong a main and assistant, Wilis O’Brien was the main animator and almost all the animation in this scene and in the movie was done by him, also the main Kong puppet was designed to be emotive since the armature actually had a wires placed under the foam lips so kong snarl and have a wide range of expressions same with kong’s eyelids and brow
This is honestly the smoothest stop motion I’ve ever seen from this era
Yes, especially the look on his face at 1:31 😥😭
I wouldn't even say "for 1933".
The effects in this *are* better than modern films..
Yes, the movement is a little jerky, but it's real practical effects and they seamlessly merge the animation into the shots of the people..
Look at the shot of Kong on stage with the actors below and the audience in the foreground and realise that Kong was actually Not there. He was added in later.
Yet you completely buy that he's there.
Now look at the recent Marvel films using green screen and CGI.
I don't buy that the characters are really there or in danger.
Oh yikes that's one way to go falling off a tall building and not to tell the tale because you be dead poor King Kong beauty really did kill the beast.

I think this version of Kong is more tragic. He's a confused animal who's fighting for a woman who doesn't even have sympathy for him.

Did you know that the Empire State Building was still 70% empty for a while after it's completion? Then in March 1933, King Kong comes out, creates what is now known as the "blockbuster" movie because people stood in long lines for hours all the way around the entire block that their theater was on just so they could see the movie, and the Empire State Bldg received exponentially more applications for leasing office space as a result of the increased exposure this movie brought to it. Therefore, had King Kong never left Skull Island in the film, the Empire State Bldg would have been a huge financial debacle that set back Manhattan commerce and real estate for decades. Furthermore, some of the office space leased inside the ESB after 1933 were companies with military contracts that would go on to develop key items that helped the Allies win WW2.
Who knows where we would be today, as an entire nation, had King Kong never made his fateful climb to the pinnacle of the Manhattan skyline in 1933?
I live for facts like these.
*MIND BLOWN!*
Wout B Hope you're being sarcastic.
I didn't know any of this. Very interesting. Thanks for the input.
It actually took much longer than 1933 to fill the building because it was planned and construction begun BEFORE the stock market crash of October 1929 and construction continued into the beginning of the Great Depression. It was hard to fill because Midtown was not the right area for business at the time... and with businesses still contracting due to the depression, it was hard to find tenants. (No one was expanding or upgrading back then). It wasn't until the post-war error (late 40s) that things really began to take off for the Empire State Building. It's first profits were not turned until the 1950s.

@@cali4eddie That's true but they managed to make the 2005 version of Kong's death scene way more emotional
Some scenes are put in a film to look cool, others are emotional, and some define the common media as we know it. This is one of them.
I see a lot of people saying that this scene is ugly and strange but remember, this movie was released in 1933, they didn't even think about computers at the time and cinema was something new, the effects were all improvised and done in stop-motion (which takes a LOT of time), a scene like this is almost a miracle
Yes. Considering that King Kong turns 90 this year, the special effects were revolutionary for 1933. Movies were still a developing technology, and no one had combined live-action and stop-motion before. The scene with the bug pit was storyboarded but never filmed.
Peter Jackson & Ray Harryhausen?
Love this movie, How the camera angles made Kong battle dinosaurs, attacking the village, interacting with the warriors, the citizens, the viewpoint from the pilots with Kong trying to grab them.
This scene really makes me think that we are the beasts and Kong was just a lost animal who is being tortured, anyone else??
Yeah 100%. Kong wasn't the monster, he was taken out of his habitat brutally into a world that he didn't understand.
Kong did nothing wrong, animals are animals
Humans have always been the monsters in this world. Always have been.
@@nathanielrobles3284 Always will be...
@@Pookins. It felt disturbingly similar to how the slaves were forcibly ripped from their homes by other people to be sold to slavers.
How could ANYONE criticize the animation? Kong clearly knows his time is up, he's mortally wounded, and even tries to use his last moments to stroke Ann's hair.
The facial expressions alone are amazing, you see every emotion on the big ape's face.
The stop motion adds an other worldly nightmare quality to the whole film. CGI can never achieve that. It is too smooth, too metallic, too weightless.
Even my grandparents doesn't exist when this movie was released
When were you born 2 months ago or something
@@ricksanchez8407 nah my grandparents weren’t born either I’m 16 and my grandma is 63 and my grandpa is 62
@@ricksanchez8407 You realize our grand parents need to be 88 years old in order to be alive in that time right?
My grandpa is just one year younger than this movie! I need to ask him if he somehow watched it at some point ( short after WW II started and Poland was hit hard...)

2021 people: The King Kong is fake and unrealistic.

Learn that the new one is the monsterverse version. It's not hard to comprehend.
