Agreed. I love Green Day, but Punk =/= Punk Rock. I would have replaced Basket Case with like ... I dunno, State of The Union by Rise Against, Self Esteem by Offspring or You by Bad Religion.
Oh come on, give me a break. My generation? Yeah maybe to the mods not the punks. No punk thought the who was good they were a total joke. MC5 and new York dolls helped change punk music not Pete Townshend and his big nose

9:59 Bro Hymn is also used by the Ducks and the Angels for Goals and Home Runs respectively. It fits not only because the band is from Manhattan Beach which is only a half hour away from Anaheim, but also because of lines like "...Just remember the side you get to cheer on, you've got friends with you to the end" and "We can conquer anything together" displaying the community that exists in alot of sports fanbases where fans (sometimes) treat other fans like best friends or family (especially after big moments like the Minneapolis Miracle where fans who were mostly complete strangers were hugging each other as their team seemed to be destined to go to the Super Bowl).
I was REALLY hesitant to click on this video fearing being greatly disappointed... But I think considering the source this is actually a fairly decent list.
I totally agree with the number one. There is never ever going to be a more punk thing than the Pistols. Complain as much as you want about Green Day. This list is not about top bands but top songs and Basket Case is punk as it gets. Without Green Day and Offspring we had no ideea what punk is in the 90's. They brought it back and they did brilliant. The fact that they move to pop later it's a whole filthy different story.
"There is never ever going to be a more punk thing than the Pistols." Are you fucking kidding me. There will never be anything LESS punk than the Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols is the whiniest most wannabe group of poseurs there is.
Everyone always forgets about The Cramps. Their music might not have necessarily been “punk”, but they were very pioneering as well in the punk scene. AS WELL AS THE STOOGES. THEY WERE THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL
guys you need to realize that yeah not all of these are punk but even punk has subgenres. Pop-punk, Skate-punk, Surf-punk, Ska-punk, Hardcore-punk (borderline but still) etc
My Top 10 ;P #1. Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK #2. The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop #3. Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized #4. NOFX - Linoleum #5. Green Day - Basket Case #6. Dead Kennedys - Holiday In Cambodia #7. The Clash - Should I Stay Or Schould I Go #8. Black Flag - Rise Above #9. Bad Religion - Punk Rock Song #10. Offspring - All I Want Honorable Mention: Rancid - Time Bomb Bad Brains - I Against I blink-182 - Dammit Pennywise - Fuck Authority
I think Blitzkrieg bop is overrated. (dont get me wrong, i love The Ramones, its my favourite band, but there are better songs than blitzkrieg bop) also i think the studio version is a little bit boring but when i went to see marky ramone and they played Blitzkrieg Bop its definitively a better experience
jomard benemile Yes, but out of ten acts, we only had two from the UK. The UK produced some truly awesome punk. I wouldn't even say the Pistols were the best of it, though they were good... so long as you ignore everything they did after 'Never Mind The Bollocks'.
YourFavoriteCommie I mean, other than starting the UK punk movement and having a legacy that still stands to this day, yeah total posers. Not like Greenday at all!
why is green day not punk but the ramones are? they both play fast paced songs with a couple of power chords about stuff that (mostly) isn't political. If you think about it, if the Ramones formed now, they would get called posers and shit. and if Green Day came out when the Ramones came out, they would be called punk legends.
I think most of the green day hate comes from their later stuff like ‘forever now’ and ‘nightlife’ Although I disagree that they should be hated, their first 10-14 years they were punk and should be recognised as such
One thing is to reinvent rock in 1974 by playing music that nobody cares about, while 3 people come to see you and the others think you're a freak and you continue, and another thing is to do something already done in the past .
The Stranglers - Peaches Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK The Clash - London Calling or White Riot The Skids - Into the Valley Siouxsie and the Banshees - Hong Kong Garden or This Wheels on Fire Sham 69 - Hersham Boys or Angels with Dirty Faces Tubeway Army - Are Friends Electric The Damned - Smash it Up or Eloise The Undertones - Teenage Kicks, or Jimmy, Jimmy or My perfect Cousin X-Ray Spex - Oh Bondage Up Yours or Germfree Adolscents Stiff Little Fingers - At the Edge
I always thought of Suicidal Tendencies as thrash but still punk. Green day is definitely pop punk they could have been replaced with Circle Jerks Wild in the Streets or the Misfits
You guys do know that the word Fuck is allowed on youtube, right? Oh and you forgot Agent Orange - Bloodstains, Bad Brains - Sailin' on, DRI -Thrashhard (how did you miss that), Descendants - Everything Sux, Fear - I Love Livin' in the City, (too much to name from GG Alin and the Jabbers), and if you consider the Misfits punk, then wtf. The Misfits literally is the most consistent band ever. They have sooooooo much good stuff. I might even go as far as saying that they have a better good/bad song ratio then any band ever (yes, that means the Ramones as well)
You have Green Day, Rancid, Pennywise, and NOFX, but not FEAR, Bad Brains, Adverts, Germs, Stiff Little Fingers, The Ruts, or X Ray Spex? Minor Threat didn't even make it to the top 10? They started a whole movement with a 40 second song!
I'd say misfits where more influenced by metal than punk. I still like them but I'd say you shouldn't put them on a punk anthems list. You could put them on a punk songs list but none of there work really influences the genre as a whole in my opinion.
Carmel Kirk actually generator would be better for bad religion, however for mainstream viewers American Jesus is more understandable. When I say understandable I mean the meaning is more out there.
The Plebeian Cultist Ah man, great tune. Just listened to it after your comment. It had been a little while. I figured I'd go with American Jesus in case someone looks them looks up for the first time, and hoping they get hooked within the first 10 seconds. My favorite band of all time, hands down.
What "the only band that matters" in 4th place? How'd that happen? And Social Distortion and Bad Religion should have made the list, with Ball & Chain for the former and Sorrow for the latter. But take your pick of songs from each band, and a case could probably be made for their place on this list.
a 90s skate punk band above Joe Strummer. it takes incompetence. I have nothing against pennywise but I much prefer the Clash, not only because they made history but because they have an unmistakable character
While it definitely one of their best, The Clash have much better anthems than London Calling. White Riot, Career Opportunities, I Fought the Law, etc.
"With this and the later record God Save The Queen, the Pistols defined anti-establishment" Being signed to major labels EMI, A&M, and then Virgin is anti-establishment?
Time's are NOT changing. Those bands are just NOT punk. Listen to Against Me! That band is a true modern punk band. If people don't know about punk they should just stop blabbing out their INCORRECT notions on what they THINK is punk.
Oh fuckwad, learn that Green Day is known for writing songs about fighting government control before your write a comment like that because last I checked, that's pretty fucking punk
Jessica Jane There are plenty of documentaries, and recent ones too, that have band members from bands like Bad Religion, Rancid, and NOFX that all classify Green Day as punk. Don't go all Gilman Street on us, disowning punk bands by your opinions left and right.
+Jude Lynch I cant believe some of the rubbish in the list. Pistols should have had three entries at least- these are supposed to be anthems of punk, not bands who jumped on a bandwagon for the pop industry
They are pop-punk (like blink 183 or the offspring) which is a genre some people consider not to be real punk bc it's too mainstream and therefore contradicts punk's original philosophy.
nickbagelboy Your comment made me laugh because my father was a punker of the old seventies order and at first he was a bit disappointed/upset (not dramatically so but he'd complain about it) when I grew up and listened to a lot of 1950's tunes and classical music and a lot of late sixties "hippie" rock and things like that, which he associated as being decidedly NOT punk but after a while he realised, as I very clearly didn't care whether he approved of it or not, that it was in a way even punker because it was a FUCK AUTHORITY attitude he very much liked. Now he is really proud of the fact that I'm different to him and we have interesting arguments about stuff like that. My mother has a very different taste in music as well and I thank both of them for my wide variety in musical influences.
littlemissmello Mannnnnnnnn, RIGHT ON!!!! :D That's exactly what I'm talking about and have been talking about for so long during "Punk arguments". That's why I left the scene. I've even gone so far as calling my self a "poser" and listening to hated bands as in a last "Fuck your rules, I'm doing what I want", as a last act of rebellion. I've become "too punk for punk". But seriously, right on to you and your family!! I think that's so rad. I'm glad you shared that story with me and I'm glad to see someone else who likes punk/has punk roots who can appreciate and like other music!! :) Fuck yeah!!

7. Get a life - pennywise
6. Lazy - lagwagon
5. Tommrow she goes away - the romaones

3. That's life - agnostic front

1. Witch hunt - misfits
Get the fuck out of here with your greenday
Bro Apocalypse No I wont, because i don't see a reason to. If you like Ramones but hate GD, you've got some problems with hearing.
Dude, how could you possibly like the ramones or green day? Fuck off poser.
Michael Desanta You hating the Ramones? You are taking trolling to the next level. I can't take you seriously.
No bad religion? No offspring? No operation ivy? But you have institution at # 10? -claps-
Agreed. I love Green Day, but Punk =/= Punk Rock. I would have replaced Basket Case with like ... I dunno, State of The Union by Rise Against, Self Esteem by Offspring or You by Bad Religion.
Offspring's crap
Don't forget about My Chemical Romance!
Aren't they considered to be emo? They certainly don't sound punk. They're far more of a pop-rock band than anything else.
Agreed, Bad religion should've of
Been on this list.
No decendents??? Damn
+christopher price Totally agree
thats what i was thinking
+christopher price I don't know about that. What song do you think should be up there? Pervert?
+Chris Perrault I would say
+Chris Perrault Catalina, Hope, Bikeage could all replace a lot of songs on this list.
No mention of the song that started it all? My Generation!!!
Oh come on, give me a break. My generation? Yeah maybe to the mods not the punks. No punk thought the who was good they were a total joke. MC5 and new York dolls helped change punk music not Pete Townshend and his big nose
The Who are my second fav band, Baba o riley, My generation, Boris the spider and wont get fooled again are my fav by them
@@thewhoman3182 fuck off then, the who are the people that inspired people to be the way they are now, without them, half of the songs u know now or that are even on this list wouldnt wven be a thing if they never existed
Los Angeles by X
One of my favorite bands. I’d add “Johnny Hit and Run Paulene”
Good one!
Hey that's pretty underground props to a true punk
I’d add nausea
Institutionalized at 10? Why not higher?, but i am happy it's here
+Zach Walker IKR
Cuz these list are a joke
Zach Walker because its crossover thrash
So the compilers of this list have never heard of bands like.
Stiff Little Fingers, The UK Subs, The Damned, Sham 69, The Ruts... etc etc etc...
Draugh39 Or Doctor Feelgood, Roxy Music, The Rezillos, Telvision, The Voidoids, The Slits. I agree, a lot's been missed out
The Damned and Sham 69 are just must haves in any punk list! All this pop punk doesn't count to me.
+Gabriel Rutherford oh shit dude I apologize their also a punk rock band I thought you were talking about the song my bad man
The Buzzcocks are an odd omission
+punkoid76 although they moved on to New Wave they started off as a punk band.
Flogging Molly - "Drunken Lullabies" should have earned a spot
I was REALLY hesitant to click on this video fearing being greatly disappointed... But I think considering the source this is actually a fairly decent list.
Not really
I totally agree with the number one. There is never ever going to be a more punk thing than the Pistols.
Complain as much as you want about Green Day. This list is not about top bands but top songs and Basket Case is punk as it gets.
Without Green Day and Offspring we had no ideea what punk is in the 90's.
They brought it back and they did brilliant. The fact that they move to pop later it's a whole filthy different story.
+Gabi X Thank you
+Gabi X Bad Religion hit it big in the 90's... before both those bands and BR is actually a good band. :P
Gabi X I agree, except we would still have punk in the 90s with bad religion
Almost died when I saw Iggy Poo, lol
"There is never ever going to be a more punk thing than the Pistols."
Are you fucking kidding me.
THEY WERE THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL
Forgive me for not being familiar with punk as much as others down here, but I think White Riot should've been on here instead of London Calling.
Yes or some other clash song
Even This is England or Career Opportunities.
Im happy NOFX made it in there
Even tho they didn’t play the best of songs for nofx
NOFX = RACISTS ..............
@@davidsilva563 wtf? How
guys you need to realize that yeah not all of these are punk but even punk has subgenres. Pop-punk, Skate-punk, Surf-punk, Ska-punk, Hardcore-punk (borderline but still) etc
true
Punk shouldn't have sub-genres. that's just stupid, Punk is punk. then you have shitty emo music like green day
Jacob Hirst i dont care if they inspired green day the sex pistols sucked
I'd like to see you try and explain why Mario Chartouni
You also have to think of Glam punk. Mötley Crüe was the biggest
Top three in no particular order: Country Roads - Me First & The Gimmi’ Gimmis, The Brews - NOFX, and Tititwister by Diesel Boy
My Top 10 ;P
#1. Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK
#2. The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop
#3. Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized
#4. NOFX - Linoleum
#5. Green Day - Basket Case
#6. Dead Kennedys - Holiday In Cambodia
#7. The Clash - Should I Stay Or Schould I Go
#8. Black Flag - Rise Above
#9. Bad Religion - Punk Rock Song
#10. Offspring - All I Want
Honorable Mention:
Rancid - Time Bomb
Bad Brains - I Against I
blink-182 - Dammit
Pennywise - Fuck Authority
I think Blitzkrieg bop is overrated. (dont get me wrong, i love The Ramones, its my favourite band, but there are better songs than blitzkrieg bop) also i think the studio version is a little bit boring but when i went to see marky ramone and they played Blitzkrieg Bop its definitively a better experience
CHILIPEÑO can you tell the name of a few of those songs for me to listen then?
I think youre a fuking idiot, but dont get me wrong i love you.
I would’ve used Sheena is a Punk Rocker.
Mete Kahramanzade Rockaway Beach, Judy is A Punk, and I wanna be Sedated are some good ones
Overratedness is anthem material
Blitz, Exploited, Casualties, Rancid, Pennywise, Ramones, Addicts, The Clash, Distillers, Stance Punks, Cherry Cokes Beer..
I looove The Distillers, but they were relatively new. And they’d prob include “City of Angels” anyway, when they had way better songs
1 Misfits
2 Ramones
3 Clash
4 Sex pistols
5 Dead Kennadys
6 Rancid
7 Nena
8 Dropkick Murphy's
Misfits are king
@@gregorio6045 haha yea. Glen danzig misfits
I'm glad you didnt mention green day, aka the La Croix of punk
Arthas Menethil Green Day is good....
So far as Black Flag is concerned my favorite is Nervous Breakdown.
What does Watchmojo have against the Offspring?
Yeah they should have at least put Self Esteem in the honorable mentions because Smash is the most sold record released on a independent label ever.
Seriously. "All I want" could have easily been on this list
yep, the whole video i was all tense and thinking "don't you dare not include the offspring". epic fail
Smash
Who the hell are Offsprings or whatever they're called.
where is the exploited
Tomek Gacek yes! I love the USA, but fuck the u/a is such a great song
sid vicious was innocent is iconic
Fuck them bastards
Exploited! Barmy Army!
"They sound... angry"
"They are."
Some good choices, but severely lacking in Britishness.
number 1 was anarchy in the uk
jomard benemile Yes, but out of ten acts, we only had two from the UK. The UK produced some truly awesome punk. I wouldn't even say the Pistols were the best of it, though they were good... so long as you ignore everything they did after 'Never Mind The Bollocks'.
Yeah but that's the Sex Pistols, the biggest whiny ass wannabe poser punk band in history.
The Damned. New Rose, Neat Neat Neat, Smash it up. How these lists keep leaving them out baffles me!
YourFavoriteCommie I mean, other than starting the UK punk movement and having a legacy that still stands to this day, yeah total posers. Not like Greenday at all!
"All I wanted was a Pepsi and she wouldn't give it to me, All I wanted was a Pepsi, Just a Pepsi." Favorite line in that song.
I'm sure Penny Rimbaud is thrilled at Crass's honorable mention for this anthem recognition.
I love hearing the Sex Pistols
time bomb, 1985??
Don't miss these other great videos,
Top 10 Punk Bands (REDUX)
Top 10 Rock Anthems
Top 10 Blink-182 Songs
The History of the Ramones
Top 10 Misfits Songs please!
Time Bomb was released in 1995 not 1985
Where is All the Small Things and Self Esteem and how can Blitzkrieg Bop *NOT* be number one?
FUCK ALL THE SMALL THINGS! FUCK BLINK 182!
Fuck you I love Blink-182!
Why aren't the misfits on hear?!
Agnostic Front - gotta go
Boysetsfire - rookie / after the Eulogy
Social Distortion - 1945
Black Flag - nervous breakdown
Crisis - holocaust
why is green day not punk but the ramones are? they both play fast paced songs with a couple of power chords about stuff that (mostly) isn't political. If you think about it, if the Ramones formed now, they would get called posers and shit. and if Green Day came out when the Ramones came out, they would be called punk legends.
Well said
You just answered your own question.
I think most of the green day hate comes from their later stuff like ‘forever now’ and ‘nightlife’
Although I disagree that they should be hated, their first 10-14 years they were punk and should be recognised as such
Erty Berty I quite liked Forever Now, and the whole Revolution Radio Album to be honest, however I can see where all the hate for Green Day is coming
One thing is to reinvent rock in 1974 by playing music that nobody cares about, while 3 people come to see you and the others think you're a freak and you continue, and another thing is to do something already done in the past .
21st century digital boy isn't on here?
I can't believe it...
In my eyes it's not real punk
In my eyes, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't punk.
I never said I didn't like it
Casper Howell If you have to name one of your songs "Punk rock song" you're trying to hard to be punk...
The Stranglers - Peaches
Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK
The Clash - London Calling or White Riot
The Skids - Into the Valley
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Hong Kong Garden or This Wheels on Fire
Sham 69 - Hersham Boys or Angels with Dirty Faces
Tubeway Army - Are Friends Electric
The Damned - Smash it Up or Eloise
The Undertones - Teenage Kicks, or Jimmy, Jimmy or My perfect Cousin
X-Ray Spex - Oh Bondage Up Yours or Germfree Adolscents
Stiff Little Fingers - At the Edge
Pull my strings by Dead Kennedys should have been on this list. The lyrics are great
I always thought of Suicidal Tendencies as thrash but still punk. Green day is definitely pop punk they could have been replaced with Circle Jerks Wild in the Streets or the Misfits
Finally someone with a brain
Green Day is punk. Listen to actual pop punk bands like Bowling For Soup or Hit the Lights, it's a lot different and lighter than Green Day.
Grizz Bell Green day is still pop punk
Alejandro Esparza Nope. Some of their newer albums are mostly pop punk, but Green Day is a Punk band.
Grizz Bell to me they will always be a pop group. Watch a video by The Daily guru on Greenday.
Best mainstream punk list ever.... Smh
Stop being a hipster
+mr box sick burn bro
Matthew Lewis It's not a burn, complaining about people liking stuff that are "too mainstream" is pretty much the definition of a hipster
+mr box you're so right, I apologize for my ignorance
I agree tho... WHERE TF IS SOCIAL DISTORTION??
Lexicon Devil? by the germs?
ruven samaraweera fucking love the germs
ieslo l oum ÚNICO.
I like we must bleed, but lexicon devil feels more iconic...
Nice Profile pic. SDRE!
+Cruze thanks man :D ... its been it for a while though, so I may change it
you know punk is truly dead when watchmojo does a list about it
Green Day's early stuff might be punk, but intentional or not they killed punk.
Maybe because they're not punk?
+HenryDoheenie Insommniac was Green Days last good album...
A7XRYAN29 Nimrod and American Idiot are fabulous
If you think punk is dead go tell that to the thousands of us busting our asses off for this music
+A7XRYAN29 nostalgic bullshit
Holiday in Cambodia 😍
totally agree
The fact that you have Green Day but not The Misfits is a real slap in face to punk fans
Yes!
Yep basket case? WatchMojo should have just put hybrid moments or last caress in here instead of that poppy song
London Calling is my personal No.1.
Seeing dropkick Murphys live was one of the greatest things ive ever seen
same! saw em in philly on st Patty's day, many moons ago. the boils and the toy dolls opened for em!!
Was hard to see if that Fenway Park crowd was enjoying it though!! LOL
bad religion pennywise nofx the misfits the descendance
rage against the machine
Lorna Cole rage against the machine are an odd one id say they are more metal than punk but have tendencies to switch between the two
You guys do know that the word Fuck is allowed on youtube, right?
Oh and you forgot Agent Orange - Bloodstains, Bad Brains - Sailin' on, DRI -Thrashhard (how did you miss that), Descendants - Everything Sux, Fear - I Love Livin' in the City, (too much to name from GG Alin and the Jabbers), and if you consider the Misfits punk, then wtf. The Misfits literally is the most consistent band ever. They have sooooooo much good stuff. I might even go as far as saying that they have a better good/bad song ratio then any band ever (yes, that means the Ramones as well)
Why wouldn't you consider the misfits punk?
Carlos Irizarry because they are Shit
i also would put American jesus b bad religion on the list
You have Green Day, Rancid, Pennywise, and NOFX, but not FEAR, Bad Brains, Adverts, Germs, Stiff Little Fingers, The Ruts, or X Ray Spex? Minor Threat didn't even make it to the top 10? They started a whole movement with a 40 second song!
Misfits?.....MISFITS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I know right???? wheres the love for Glenn and Doyle????
I'd say misfits where more influenced by metal than punk. I still like them but I'd say you shouldn't put them on a punk anthems list. You could put them on a punk songs list but none of there work really influences the genre as a whole in my opinion.
Technically shock rock, but it's ok Ramons are rock.
joe dh rock not metal
What about Minority by Green Day? The rebellious lyrics combined by the powerful band performance will surely earn a place
No. All of insomniac is better
Milencolin- No Cigar
Bad Religon- American Jesus
Pennywise- Alien
Carmel Kirk actually generator would be better for bad religion, however for mainstream viewers American Jesus is more understandable. When I say understandable I mean the meaning is more out there.
The Plebeian Cultist Ah man, great tune. Just listened to it after your comment. It had been a little while. I figured I'd go with American Jesus in case someone looks them looks up for the first time, and hoping they get hooked within the first 10 seconds. My favorite band of all time, hands down.
my favorite *punk band of all time
pennywise not punk, its post punk
What? Read this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-punk
Pennywise is not postpunk or punk. It's punk rock.
Number one punk anthem has to be Bored Teenagers by The Adverts, because if you were around in the late 70's that's exactly what you were.
Oh man Holliday in Cambodia was my favorite song to play in Guitar Hero 3!
As I played with the Xbox controller, I couldn't pass the intro xD, I see you like A7x, foREVer bro ;)
its funny you say that, my fav was anarchy in the uk.
Sean Salyer I had a feeling someone would say that! Guitar Hero 3 had the best songs in the entire series!
same
Shipping up to Boston really?
What "the only band that matters" in 4th place? How'd that happen? And Social Distortion and Bad Religion should have made the list, with Ball & Chain for the former and Sorrow for the latter. But take your pick of songs from each band, and a case could probably be made for their place on this list.
a 90s skate punk band above Joe Strummer. it takes incompetence. I have nothing against pennywise but I much prefer the Clash, not only because they made history but because they have an unmistakable character
Just arrived on this page for nostalgic reasons; a lot more homework needs to be done. All the best! See & Violence.
While it definitely one of their best, The Clash have much better anthems than London Calling. White Riot, Career Opportunities, I Fought the Law, etc.
The fact that they chose the top song that pops up when they search the band name gives me blueballs
"With this and the later record God Save The Queen, the Pistols defined anti-establishment"
Being signed to major labels EMI, A&M, and then Virgin is anti-establishment?
Exactly, the point of Punk music is to be anti-commercial.
Great compilation! Rancid's Time Bomb was released 1995 not 1985
Right? Band wasn’t even together in 1985!
Oh kids, learn abour *Punk* first before mentioning Offspring, Green day and bloody sum41, for fucks sake.
Have you ever heard early Offspring? Or Manic Subsidal? Their name before they became the Offspring. Most definitely punk.
Oh adults, grow the fuck up and realise times are a changin'...
I think sex pistols - god save the queen deserved the #1
I agree!
+Jude Lynch - Or 'Pretty Vacant'. Encompasses that 'fuck you' attitude.
Cliff Trainor That one is good too!
+Jude Lynch I cant believe some of the rubbish in the list. Pistols should have had three entries at least- these are supposed to be anthems of punk, not bands who jumped on a bandwagon for the pop industry
+Thebackup30 You're not alone.
I like Greenday (to a certain point) but I've never considered them punk.
They are pop-punk (like blink 183 or the offspring) which is a genre some people consider not to be real punk bc it's too mainstream and therefore contradicts punk's original philosophy.
Martina Makek But in a sense, that also contradicts punk's original philosophy, the "No rules" part.
nickbagelboy Your comment made me laugh because my father was a punker of the old seventies order and at first he was a bit disappointed/upset (not dramatically so but he'd complain about it) when I grew up and listened to a lot of 1950's tunes and classical music and a lot of late sixties "hippie" rock and things like that, which he associated as being decidedly NOT punk but after a while he realised, as I very clearly didn't care whether he approved of it or not, that it was in a way even punker because it was a FUCK AUTHORITY attitude he very much liked.
:) Fuck yeah!!
littlemissmello dookie is on the border of punk and pop punk. after it they where pop punk
Fuckin Sex Pistols at #1, they were a boy band formed after The Ramons visited the U.K.
