"Supernatural is One of my favorite shows of all time... or rather, the first five seasons of it are." I have said this exact sentence to so many of my friends they have gotten sick of it.
Every time I hear someone I know is watching the show I tell them to stop after season 5. Season 5 was the perfect ending IMO, and it's where the series should have ended. The later seasons have some good moments, but also some blatant mischaracterizations and the writers seem to have no real idea what they are doing. I love the series overall, but I really wish it had stuck to five seasons.
Nah, I disagree. Yeah, it goes off the rails in terms of character and plot in specific points, but it still contains some stellar episodes. The payoff for me is more than worth it.

It’s tragic some shows outlive their intention. This could’ve gone down as a classic, an underrated gem. Instead, it’s gonna be remembered as a bit of a cluttered mess.
I 100% disagree, but i respect your opinion nonetheless. How many other shows do you know of that lasted three times longer than it was meant to, still had an ending that respected its characters and its fans? the writers could have gone full Game of Thrones, but they didn't and i will forever be grateful for that. I started watching this show when i was 13 years old in 2005, and i will never forget this fantastic journey for as long as i live.
Da1337Man I don’t necessarily think that ending.... really did much of anything other than claim that like fifteen years of character development basically amounted to nothing and everybody is exactly as far from their starting place as they were by like three episodes into the first season. Dean dying and Sam living out the rest of his life is so obvious that it feels like the ending to the show that should’ve been done ten years ago, not the show that ended last month. If anything, it should’ve been inverted. The guy whose defining characteristic is that he could’ve had a normal life dies young, and the guy who lived in his father’s shadow now has to make a life for himself without the people who made him finally believe life is worth living. An ending to show that there was a valuable journey that the characters went on, that indicates real change. That’s just me though.
And I fully agree with you btw. This show will not be remembered well, only by the hardcore fans, but not by fans of storytelling. I still have a soft spot for it because I was obsessed with it as an early teen. It was the first live action show that I found and watched by myself and that I became obsessed with. I even wanted to get the tattoo that the brothers have lol, and my biggest absolute dream was to own an Impala like Dean’s. It was also the show that introduced me to classic rock which was the gateway to making me a music lover, and introduced me to my biggest passion, the guitar. I also even learned how to speak English mainly because of Supernatural. I owe so much to this show, but it’s not one of my favorites anymore, it’s just a part of my life at this point. My favorite is Breaking Bad
Dean really always felt like such a real character which always kept me around. He really was done dirty in the world he was born into but throughout the series you see him holding on in a manner of ways. Sometimes even hedonistic ways which might be frowned upon but so very real ❤️💯
As a writer myself, Supernatural season 1-11 is hands down the art of writing. Layers of stories upon layer upon layer. Subtexts over subtexts. Albeit the overly dramatic scenes, I know by experience, it's not a simple writing.

I lost interest in the show back when Season 9 was on air, I couldn't take the shows downfall then, so I quit, but I ended up recapturing my interest a couple weeks ago, and started rewatching, I'm now at season 3 episode 11.
This one was a total surprise! Hope you make an in depth analysis of the characters Dean, Sam and Cass and their issues and character growth! Can't wait for those!
Though the title of this video doesn’t give away which episode you were going to analyse, I guessed it would either be On the head of a pin from season 4 or this one. I think On the head of a pin is actually a great mirror to this episode, particularly if because if Dean would have stayed in this dream world he would have escaped everything he went through in hell which makes it even more tragic. It’s all part of the horrible chess game that neither Sam and Dean can break free of. Seasons 1-5 are just on a whole other level. I agree I also don’t hate the rest of the seasons, there are some great episodes, new characters, and story lines that happen - but nothing can top the way those first 5 seasons slot together.
The first 2 minutes and 13 seconds are the best and only way I could ever describe this show. It's fucking brilliant. I love this show forever and you nailed it on the head
I think supernatural is the only TV show I own (atleast the first 7 seasons) and actually watched multiple times. I have so many great memories with this show. Great video :)
I never let this episode sink in so deep, as always your analysis gives another angle to view things. Also 100% agree season 5 was the peak in my opinion if it ended there I'd feel sour but understand the sacrifice.

It really is. The first season definitely is the toughest to get through, as it feels very episodic and, like he said, the main story is thinly within the season for most of it. The last few episodes are when the writers realized where the strength of the show was. Season 2 onwards is absolutely engaging and well-written, and the ending of season 5 makes the story feel complete. I remember watching season 6 and thinking "it really could've ended there." Even though the show continues, you do get a complete story by season 5's finale
Watch until season 5. That’s the real complete story. If you really love the show at that point and want some *extra* content then watch the rest until you get tired of it
Two of my fav episodes "All hell breaks loose" part 1 and 2 from season 2. Supernatural always had the best titles for their episodes. Great video Aleczandxr!
Never properly watched supernatural but I knew this would at the very least get me to watch that episode. Also your reviews is just so good at convincing me to watch stuff I haven't before.

What a great analysis, supernatural is one of my favorites shows, the ending broke me to tears. It’s refreshing to find someone that analyses characters of animes and series so deeply like you do, I’ve been told to just “enjoy a show and don’t think about it” but analyzing the characters brings a deeper meaning and understanding of the show. Also, i been meaning to ask you, are you a psychiatrist or a psychologist by the way? Your analysis pretty much sound like my psychiatrists and psychologists teachers.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed both this one and the channel overall! And I’ve got a minor in psychology, neuroscience and behaviour but that’s all, I never majored in it or anything.
You're right. The first five seasons of Supernatural were some of the best seasons of TV. And it is a shame that it didn't end there. Still, having watched the series finale, I thought it was a solid ending to the series. Even if I argue it overstayed its welcome.
I agree. Everything after season five isn't necessary or as good as the seasons before but still good. Some of my favorite episodes, like Scoobynatural aren't from season 1-5.
Unfortunately, that is the fate for many a series. It’s unfortunate, yet inevitable that some stories will be stretched out and lose some of their luster.
@Boros Vita Unfortunately, I have never watched Dexter. However, I do know how it feels to see a series drag itself down. For me the best personal example of this would be the ABC series Once Upon A Time. In all honesty, the series reached its logical ending point halfway through season 3. At this point all the major plot threads had been tied up nicely, the character's respective arcs had reached a good stopping point, and the ending itself would have been a great place to cap it off.
@Boros Vita I honestly think Dexter's continuation may have been even worse than Supernatural's. Dexter's final season and ending were just atrocious, and now there's word that they're making another season that takes place a few years after the last one.
This was an amazing video. I peeped the comments and saw that you said you weren't going to make more content on supernatural and that's all good. Thank you for this video tho. You did an amazing job on the analysis and the accuracy of it too.
@@Aleczandxr Just curious, why is that? I understand you can’t cover everything people recommend and you wouldn’t want to make a video on something you don’t care about but why not consider the ones pertaining to topics you’re interested in?
..... A supernatural video on THIS channel... Oh I bow to you.. PLEASE KEEP GOING... As a person who was there on premiere night... And watched every single one in order til the finale.... Everything up to 5 was GOLD.. Most after... Bronze.. But but but..... It still great TV
This is still one of my all-time favourite episodes from the show. When Sam says, "Why do you always have to keep digging, you can be happy here. Paraphrasing, of course. It almost breaks me every time
This episode speaks to other adults who, like Dean, were parentified as children. Feeling as if you alone have everything on your shoulders, knowing that terrible things would happen if you didn't take on responsibilities that you shouldn't have to and are way beyond your ability to handle, but doing it anyway and dreaming of a different life.
It's easy to overlook that Dean had 8 years of a normal life, he has that seed of happiness to yearn for. Sam, on the other hand, had only the hunter's lifestyle, no matter how much Dean tried to shield him growing up. There are a few episodes, like this one, that highlight that difference between the two.
8 years of a normal life? The first years of life, you mean. How many years do you think Dean even remembers? Maybe 2-3, 4 at most? Couple flashes of scenes of memories here and there from a traumatic event in life? He has a childlike view of the traditional happiness, he has always thought he wanted. Granted, Sam never even got that, so no, he’s not as jaded/heartbroken as Dean, cuz his experiences are limited to this one existence. But, honestly, they both came out of the hunting world, relatively unharmed, overall, given everything they’ve been through, and how they realistically should’ve turned out.
I hope to one day write a story that has a character making a tough decision that is ambiguous to whether if it’s right or wrong. That it’s more about living with the consequences of the actions taken. But anyway, when it comes to Supernatural, I highly recommend Seasons 1-5 to people. As for how to end your watch, either stop with the finale of S5 or skip to the series finale.
It's so much harder to do the right thing than it is to do what you want. It destroys us to lose everything we love, but if it puts us on the path to do the right thing, it is completely worth all the pain.
I was NOT expecting a Supernatural analysis from this channel, holy cow, 2020 is something. I’m not complaining though :D will definitely be watching and supporting anything you pump out! 💕
Love that you said “Dean, of all people, has the right to be asking these questions…” I know someone in real life in a similar situation, she should be asking, but she doesn’t, just keeps giving, keeps sacrificing her own dreams for others. Beautiful, but painful.
Brotagonists. Jokes aside, it says a lot about how good the relationship is between Dean and Sam that it carried people through 15 seasons of the show, even after season 5 where it had burned its potential up. Not to downplay other solid characters like Cass, but its clearly the bond between them that drove the show, even when it had already lost its way.
I just discovered your channel by looking for Steins Gate related content.. Then I saw the variety of topics you cover and ended up on this video about one of my favourite shows with Final Fantasy X Soundtrack in the beginning. Subscribed
Your and mine taste in Series and Anime is SOOOO similar! Its like I was doing all those videos myself but I am happy you did and I can just enjoy your great work! ps: I hope you can explore one of my most favourite scenes of HxH the game between Razor vs Gon+Killua feat Hisoka. And the meaning of true love and friendship that Gon wanted Killua to hold the ball for him because he values him above all and gives him the chance first time in his life to be happy and also do what he wishes even if is meaned to sacrifice something for someone he also loves.
Glad you enjoyed! Unfortunately I don’t take requests from comments, but I already somewhat covered that concept non-specifically in my Killua video. Not exactly, but there is some overlap. Thanks for watching.
I watched some Supernatural, but never watched it hard enough to think this much about it. Super cool. Love all the different things you decide to talk about on your channel. Always ready to sit down and listen
I'd like to add that in that fake reality there were few hints that dean was an alcoholic asshole & not very close to him family & just someone that cause them trouble
Reading the comments here really made me think for a moment i was the only one who loved the show through and through but thankfully i know that's not the truth,i loved it all, the way it started, how things evolved, how Sam and Dean changed through the whole story, and even the ending for it's simplicity and predictability after the intense run of the later seasons of the show ,it felt good despite whatever anyone says,it was a Wonderful 15 seasons journey and the show will forever be a classic in my opinion.
I’ve watched series 100 times over on different occasions and every time over the years watching it brought a light to my dark tunnel and honestly made me a better person. So like this if you read this and felt something from watching supernatural
Ohh I am also currently rewatching Supernatural, what a coincidence, I never made it past season 8 before and was determined to see how it continues. I kinda have to say, you can tell that supernatural wasn't planned past the whole apocalypse ark tbh, I do enjoy the episodes afterwards but I agree, they were in their prime during that storyline.
It’s even sadder with the way the show ends and Dean truly never gets a hint of the family he desired so badly. His brother gets to settle and grow old and have a family and he never does
Most people think Dean desired semi-retire and settle down, have a somewhat normal life started around season 8 or 9 but it seem it always been there and he's just buried it deeply.
I stopped watching this show around season 6 or 7 but I think with it ending and seeing this video I might have to watch it all the way through some day. I loved what I watched but season 1-5 were the best. Great video.
Ok… I get it. The first five seasons are almost like their own thing. I watched every episode as they came out, pretty well since the start of season 1. I still remember the promos for the first season before it had even come out. But I really would argue and advocate for the series as a whole. The big flaw with it became the filler episodes littered throughout the seasons post season five until its conclusion. But man, there are some episodes in the later seasons that are so heart wrenching and hit so hard. There are truly epic moments and great characters throughout the later seasons that get dismissed. Condense it into 10 seasons and do away with the Leviathan arc (super inconsequential in the overall story) and it would be viewed differently.
Season 12, All Along the Watchtower - shows a similar concept. As the Nephilim is being born, it opens a space/time rift into a parallel Earth - where Mary Campbell never made a deal with Azazel, therefore John Winchester was not brought back to life, they did not marry, Sam and Dean were never born - and that worked about even worse than Mary never having died. Apolcalypse-World.
OK, so now that I have a proper place to document this headcanon, I will. So my mom and I are fans of supernatural obviously. And she likes to theorize that the series from this episode onward Is nothing but a projection of Dean‘s mind caused by the gin, her reasoning being that Dean desires what he sees in this episode but fundamentally, he knows that nothing but a hunter life will satisfy him. She goes on to say that the best examples of this are when Zachariah puts him and Sam in a false reality where they aren’t hunters and there’s the same result, plus all of the times he’s had an out of the life but always ends up going back. According to my mom in order for that to work and Dean not be able to break out of the spell, the gin/his mind would have to create something resembling the tragedy of his actual life, which could explain two things. One being that there always had to be another big bad, some other world ending problem that only the Winchesters could solve. Up to the point where they defeat GOD. 😂😂 The second being how the show takes a blatantly more Dean centric approach, considering the series started in Sam’s point of view. If anything, her theory gives some kind of purpose to Sam’s lack of agency as the series continued. Of course, the it was just a dream or it was all in your mind, kind of storytelling aren’t considered good writing, but they’re still fun and that’s why entertaining the thought can lead to interesting conversations.
I believe if not for the pandemic, they truly could have rolled out the red carpet with the final episodes. Would've seen everyone from the past and ...just could've been awesome!!
Hey Aleczandxr, I think you should check out D. Gray Man. It's a shounen that I'd say is better than Hunter x Hunter but gets overlooked due to how long it takes the author to create new chapters. I believe you would really enjoy it, but it does start off pretty slow until after episode 50
For me, season 3 is their best (even though it's the shortest due to the writer strike). Season 3 is just so good in so many ways and has so many gems. Season 2 was really good too, but gosh do I love 3!!
Would you be interested in doing a video about Kotomine from Fate? Between his origin story in Zero and his interesting morality (or lack there of) in the main Routes, he's a compelling character imo.
@@michaelyu6250 Really? Pity, his videos always feel like they tackle a character or story from a unique angle (and aren't bogged down by some honestly horrible humor that I've found in some coverings of Kotomine).
I believe that Dean did the right choice by leaving this reality. Dean is an warrior in his heart and his heart fights for the good of the world, even if that meant sacrificing his own happiness. Dean might have loved the Illusion as an actual life, he would have not been the Dean who helped avert the apocalypse in the end alongside his friends and his brother and Bob. He also died like he lived and that is in battle, so I can't see him having a quite life even in the afterlife, maybe he hunts Monsters now as an hunter in heaven.
I think if it was an alternate reality and it wasn't fake I think dean would not stay. His driving force the whole series is not only revenge but also not letting other people feel the pain he went through.he looks up to john and the burden of all those people that would have died if john him and sammy didnt stop those monsters would have a toll on him he would know that it wasn't what his father would have wanted.
Dean wanting to stay in the Djinn’s dream so badly even if it killed him but then choosing to come back is a defining character trait. *spoilers I guess* I feel like that’s why for me season 15’s ending felt… off. It went against that very trait we know, and felt almost like the audience was in a djinn dream - where again Dean’s ‘happy ending’ resulted from his death.

Not really top tier compared to other stuff, but for this type of show, definitely.
The show was suppose to end in season 5 originally as the creator intended. But the network wanted the show to keep going since it was very popular.
It's a shame because the first five seasons are so poignant and masterfully told... And while there's good parts to the latter seasons they just don't have that extra spark that made the first five so special.

pretty much, after the devil you cant get more evil than that
@Boros Vita Unfortunately, I have never watched Dexter.
You’re welcome, and I’m glad you enjoyed.
Nice we’re doing Supernatural now, any chance we could get some more Attack on Titan videos; like a character analysis on Eren.
Unfortunately I don't take any requests from comments, sorry about that!
@@Aleczandxr it’s all good it’s your channel just keep up the good work, love your videos👍🏾
@@Aleczandxr Just curious, why is that? I understand you can’t cover everything people recommend and you wouldn’t want to make a video on something you don’t care about but why not consider the ones pertaining to topics you’re interested in?
@@CdoggsGaming Probably gets suggestions from patreon.
It almost breaks me every time
Supernatural analysis on my RUclips feed? Yes please!
This episode speaks to other adults who, like Dean, were parentified as children. Feeling as if you alone have everything on your shoulders, knowing that terrible things would happen if you didn't take on responsibilities that you shouldn't have to and are way beyond your ability to handle, but doing it anyway and dreaming of a different life.
holy shit I never knew you liked Supernatural (or at least, the better seasons). Honestly looking forward to watching this one
I love this show, save season 10, and my favorite character was Dean, he was the heart of the show.
OH MY GOD IM SO HAPPY, I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL A FEW YEARS BACK FOR ANIME STUFF AND FOUND THIS AFTER WATCHING SPN
I remember watching this episode with the Djinn a long time ago and it was definetly a special one for me.
One of my favorite episodes of Supernatural! I do agree with you that the peak of the show were seasons 1-5. Thanks for the great video on it, AJ :)
Excellent analysis!!!!
Thank you kindly!
He will "Soldier on", I see what you did there. Nice foreshadowing for his future role in The Boys
Try Breaking Bad.
It's so much harder to do the right thing than it is to do what you want. It destroys us to lose everything we love, but if it puts us on the path to do the right thing, it is completely worth all the pain.
This just cement him as my fav Red Hood.
I was NOT expecting a Supernatural analysis from this channel, holy cow, 2020 is something. I’m not complaining though :D will definitely be watching and supporting anything you pump out! 💕
Much appreciated :)
A video on supernatural by aleczandxr is not something i expected to see when i woke up today
I love it when you make vids that most won't see coming and happens to be fans of the show or movie.
Supernatural video starting out with final fantasy X music. Jesus Christ take my sub
I just discovered your channel by looking for Steins Gate related content.. Then I saw the variety of topics you cover and ended up on this video about one of my favourite shows with Final Fantasy X Soundtrack in the beginning. Subscribed
This guy has some of the best videos on youtube
Yeeessss. You are one amazing youtuber. I greatly enjoy your character and narrative analysis. Keep up the great work.
Thank you!
Very similar to the Justice League Unlimited Episode : For the Man who has everything.
Great series, Better reviewer.
So so good!!! Didn't expect this but its amazing ♡
BROOOOOO
One of my favorite shows, I already like this video and have not watch it yet
I love you for doing this. Thank you.
You’re very welcome.
Wow, I think this might be my favorite video of yours so far.
I’m glad you enjoy the series as a whole. I think that after S5 it was, on the whole, very disappointing and not worth watching.
Supernatural is a show that never dies and has more to show for what was already shown….
It's basically "For The Man Who Has Everything" but with Dean it's For The Man Who Has Nothing.
Of course, the it was just a dream or it was all in your mind, kind of storytelling aren’t considered good writing, but they’re still fun and that’s why entertaining the thought can lead to interesting conversations.
i love the first 5 seasons beause they are still all about ghosts, monsters and devils
but everything changed after the introduction of angels
Holy fuck you made a Supernatural analysis??? Wow, that's a pleasant surprise
I believe if not for the pandemic, they truly could have rolled out the red carpet with the final episodes. Would've seen everyone from the past and ...just could've been awesome!!
I really wasn’t expecting this. It’s a surprise but a welcome one. Great video.
I wait for the day where we all communicate in prequel memes
@@herbertwalter8693 it will happen I’m sure.
Glad you liked it!
@@Aleczandxr I watched the episode last night it was good.
Hey Aleczandxr, I think you should check out D. Gray Man. It's a shounen that I'd say is better than Hunter x Hunter but gets overlooked due to how long it takes the author to create new chapters. I believe you would really enjoy it, but it does start off pretty slow until after episode 50
Love it and you. Keep up the great work as long as you love it
unexpected but not unwelcome crossover
You always make good reviews. I envy your talent and broad knowledge.
I’d love to see you review The Sopranos, if that isn’t out of your way.
More Supernatural videos please!🙏🏾🙏🏾
Unfortunately this is the only video I'll be making on the series, but I hope you enjoyed it!
For me, season 3 is their best (even though it's the shortest due to the writer strike). Season 3 is just so good in so many ways and has so many gems. Season 2 was really good too, but gosh do I love 3!!
Essay so good I'm watching it twice👌👌
As much as I love the show as a whole, I can't deny the first five are truly the best seasons. I'll still rewatch all 15, though 😂
I love these characters and this show (till S5) so much ❤
I am shocked i didnt see the notification soon.
He still can choose, to be a hero or a normal person
I think if it was an alternate reality and it wasn't fake I think dean would not stay. His driving force the whole series is not only revenge but also not letting other people feel the pain he went through.he looks up to john and the burden of all those people that would have died if john him and sammy didnt stop those monsters would have a toll on him he would know that it wasn't what his father would have wanted.
im glad adam came back .....finally
I'm a fucking sucker for this show, probably because I watched it with my mom and a sister when I was a kid.
Dean wanting to stay in the Djinn’s dream so badly even if it killed him but then choosing to come back is a defining character trait.
*spoilers I guess*
I feel like that’s why for me season 15’s ending felt… off.
It went against that very trait we know, and felt almost like the audience was in a djinn dream - where again Dean’s ‘happy ending’ resulted from his death.
