Wow, what a voice! This is one of the most valuable shows you have done. I suspect most of us bedroom studio folks have never seen a real mix-down. You're a net Pioneer. I learned a ton. Thanks as always Rick!
So good. Could watch you doing this stuff all day.
This is why you are great. You do cover everything music. You are committed to helping us reach our full potential! Its amazing how FAST you are putting this mix together. Awesome work and we appreciate you helping all of us.
I'm glad you picked this song. Been wanting to hear it again for a long time, since that first time you let us hear it.
This was gorgeous. Speaking of loving the bass! Oh!
This is fantastic. I would LOVE to see more videos like this.
Joo Rick, this is super cool! Follow you for a long time now, but this is the first time I came across something like this.
A no nonsense pro at work. The world would be a better place if there were more people like Rick in it. He cuts right through the bullshit and delivers.
Thanks for this, Rick. Appreciate someone like you sharing their knowledge on this topic.
That delay throw trick, in the moment. I'm applauding, Rick Beato you're brilliant
Your show is getting popular. It was mentioned on a radio station in Connecticut.
What show would that have been?
I meant your you tube channel. The DJ was doing the Memorial Day countdown and said you covered several songs he was playing that day.
that's really fun. I can hear a lot of what you're doing when you adjust, but definitely not all.... my ears have a ways to go. I like this idea, keep it up, Rick!
Good vid Rick. Thanks for the journey and for sharing your knowledge.
Rick you're the best. Ciao from Italy, and thanks, thanks, thanks !!!
Good gawd that was impressive! I bought your entire educational series, can’t wait to dive into it.
This was great came out of it learn so much seeing how you mix. Your a great educator.
this was great Rick, thanks for sharing it.
saw it live, had to come back for the things i might have missed, keep em coming rick!
This is awesome thank you!
thank you, a treat to watch
Great song. Sounds like cold play. Love the chorus.
This was really helpful, please do more like this. Also could you possibly go more in-depth on how busses and sends work?
Awesome production, it sounded great even before he put any plugging in there... thanks Rick
Really, really nicely done.
John ManyJohns - my thoughts exactly! WHAT A VOICE!😉 Great video too Rick!
Super helpful. Cheers Rick
wow! that was awesome to watch! sounds like mute math, muse and young the giant... great song!
this is gold... thank you sir
I'd like you to do another basics of mixing!
I feel so much better in myself that even Rick gets a little stumped on a simple setting at the beginning.
Thank you Rick, very usefull. I can take more!
The biggest thing I took away from this was your approach and workflow when it comes to automation. I never use automation, because I didn't have a good work flow that utilized it. Going to try mixing the next track like this. Thanks Rick
A pro working with a deep level of focus and having experience and knowledge...Great stuff Rick!!!
A 16 th note tambourine in the chorus will lift it up even further...I really dig this song...:) Must be fun to produce these guys…:)
There was actually a tambourine in the chorus that I never unmuted. Had a couple tracks hidden by accident
;) I thought I was missing something… But I can understand that any routine gets boring, even producing when an intellectual mind needs stimulation… You can reflect that to your kids too, but they need to find out what their real passion is and ofcourse know that if you use your talents, your life will be better… Not swimming against the flow of the water, but with it... The rebellian part can swim in any direction without harming others = values…;)
Sorry for my lots of writing here Rick, I write like I think, for some its overwhelming… I was thinking about your level of operating today: I was like: damn, he has his own book for years. I,m 40 now and did a lot music-related things as a drummer/teacher, but I,m now almost finished with my first Zappa level based drumbook and it changed my view on things too...The same with mixing: it made me a better musician and the details and overview of it all gave me goosebumps… Thats why I admire your hard work and your level...Thanks for your hard work and your way of doing Rick!!!
I really like this type of mix that is dense in terms of instrumentation, almost all the channels that they show are trap or reggaeton, a mix of these calibers are easy or rather they are easier than this type of more alternative mix
MORE MIXING VIDEOS! PLEASE!
Great tutorial!
Hi Rick, you could do also a problem solve serie on several not so good recorded situations… In this way you will help the viewer that records stuff under less then optimal circumstances, or for example a live-recording... Just a thought here... So you do for example the drums this week, the bass another week, the guitar lead week 3, etc etc... PROBLEM - SOLUTION ( I know there are more solutions then problems, hahaha…)
In Rick's defense, he DID do a "drum rescue" that went into a good amount of detail. Look that one up..
But I agree, this is a great idea IMO. Too many recording how-tos, with great players/rooms/gear etc ... done for the sake of slick you tube presentations (a hunch). But yes real-life how-tos with warts and all would help a lot of people.. cheers..
This very helpful thxsomuch👍💜
love that song .. great .. PJA had some great songs
10 million subs, lets go!
Do more of this, please!
What a great song.
What's its name is it available on any platform
Legend
*Love It!* Know what? ...intentional or not, I'm so glad this was done after WMTSG with its isolated tracks, became so popular..
Few years back, I heard a mixer/producer say: "We don't need more mixers ...we need more talented artists"
Here's hoping a hidden gem of an artist that doesn't know the tech side, sees this and takes action..(MHO of course)
Great Video Rick! BTW: You're fast amigo!
PS.. I didn't mean to dissuade someone from learning mixing tips, I know I learned a few new things here.. my point was 'an aside' if you will.. Anyway, thanks again for all you do.. ; ^ }
I really like the lyrics to this song
Dangit!! Still going to watch it
I missed this live, but it was freaking awesome. I'm not a musician, so a lot of this goes over my head, but I still enjoy your content. I was wondering if you could you do a video on the process before pro tools hit the market? Thanks again for all you do.
could you please please do a show that gives some insight to hearing specification for people
from young to old which might be somewhat relevant on a pro·fes·sion·al level.
Big Rick😎
im 5 years late but this was amazing content
Is it possible you could share a downloadable track with all it's stems so that people can have a go mixing it? Getting practical is a key point in learning how to mix properly.
This song is FYUH!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes! What is it??
Nevermind, found it: Our Wild Love - North South North
Love this RIck! You make it look effortless. Question, when you make a send to a sub group. Does Pro Tools still send those tracks to the master AND the sub?
This is what I really want to learn how to do.
Rick, great lesson! Have you ever done a tutorial on tracking? Thanks
Never mind, I just learned how to use the search feature... mia culpa!
where can I find this song? beautiful song...
Top notch video!! Thanks. On another note, would you say UA plugins are worth it?
The UAD plug-ins are worth it for sure!
Damn, you’re fast
Sir hire me please :) ready to live in that studio 24/7
That's nuts - they should reform :-) ... and release an EP.
Nice One Reublic-ish vibe IMHO. I'd buy it.
Darn.....I missed it live :(
So just watch it.
when mixing a synth bass and actually bass, i noticed you didn't eq? Do you not have competing frequencies? Or was the real bass maybe eq'd on the way in?
rip x
i wish you can teach me how to mix like that
cool
Congrats honor and code ethics
Goo goo dolls
Rick - Your work is brilliant, and your knowledge appears second to none. The band, on the other hand, apparently listened to too much Coldplay. Not that there's anything wrong with Coldplay. They need to make their own sound.
I wish he would just let us hear the track first before messing around with all the groups etc.
I want to hear the whole song.
What are sends? And how do you use them?

I've seen hundreds of videos of people using or trying to use Seven Slate plugins and they have never impressed me one time. There is always something that sounds better you can find (and maybe even less CPU-intensive too). I've never compared them directly but I'll bet even stock DAW plugins sound better, but maybe I'm going too far with that statement and I'm sure i am. I like Logic's VCA.
I'm having that question whether or not to get pro tools or logic pro. Im a singer and guitarist , everyone says logic has more tools but most people I see are using pro tools so im confused lol I expect to want to use electronic drums to write but obviously want to have an actual drummer record finally , I dont know which will sound best and give me my creative freedom, Ableton seems cool , Seems to help with notes in keys and showing you them which seems like a great tool for someone like myself that writes but doesn't know music theory like that.
Ha, it has been a year but I suggest Logic, There is an amazing drummer program in there and from where i stand after 10 years with logic it's more intuitive and the bonus--its cheaper!
Two years late! but It really depends on your goal. Pro Tools is widely accepted as the Industry Standard when it comes to the audio engineering side of things. I only use Pro Tools because most everyone else in the industry prescribes to it. Pro Tools is GREAT for Post-Production, and its pretty good at music and mainly mixing. Logic is better for songwriting in my opinion due to its work flow. I often write in Logic and convert it into a protools session. Often, people send me their logic session but ill import the multi tracks into a Pro Tools Session. Logic is also better for hobbyists because its a 1-time fee, and you get updates forever and always. Pro Tools requires subscription to maintain an up-to-date profile. I would point you in the direction of Logic Pro, but It all comes down to what you enjoy most in terms of work flow. Once you learn one DAW, most all are the same, just done in different ways. Find out what works best for you! try out all of the trails and demos. I also love REAPER because it is practically free, and very powerful, but it is difficult for beginners in terms of DAW's because it allows so much freedom. It is hard to get learning direction.
Sounds like The Killers + U2.
its a nice song man thats mest up that they broke up
hey rick, have you ever heard of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard?
Yes, Carol, what are you talking about? :)
What software is that?
Pro Tools
How tf did he figure out it was the Tom ringing?!?! Bruh
I can't afford to even watch a pro tools tutorial let alone own the sw
I really don't understand why you are still using Mac and iphone in your work while you keep critizise their products ?
Dang Rick! You said you would do another live mixing session like you did on June 18th, 2018, but I just combed through all of your videos and not one since. Why? You said you would do a metal mix... Seriously disappointed...
attention: any fellow musicians interested in a project.. let me know.. I'm looking for serious cat's... thanks alex
God Protools is just the worst looking DAW. It looks absolutely terrible.
