Normally you'd make parallel cuts perpendicular to the length of the hinge. When all those cuts are made, you'll cut them out then start thin slicing into the wood to the desired depth. You get a smoother and more consistent base for the hinge leaves.
I know it’s a special bit just for drilling hinge holes. The outer casing of the bit sits in the holes and the the actual bit then moves down to plunge out the hole. Can’t think of the name
It's a countersink with a pilot bit. You buy the size for the screw you are using. That looked like a #10 or #12 screw sheet metal screw. A wood screw would be better for this IMHO.
@@heli400 Im serious though. If you don't use the chisel with the flat side up you have no way to control how deep it goes. Flat side up you can correct as you go but flat side down it digs itself in deeper with every hit.
@@benbrice9343 not for a shallow hinge ream out, do the perimeter first to the depth of the hinge, then flat side down. In a deeper rabbit, or mortise, ya I agree flatside up.
No no no, he did not screw in the holes the way I wanted them screwed, it doesn't make the darndest difference probably but you screw the one furthest away from you then the closest and repeat, I have staggered everything I do and it's probably just placebo but like I said it's just wrong not to stagger and I hate anything to the contrary.
you never cut in from side first always lots of cuts down to line from top first then horizontal look at the state of the beds the hinges are on look like a 5 year old has done them

In spite of several criticisms, this seems to be a job well done. Love the special drill bit.
that drill bit is one of the most coolest things ive seen
Me too

You should put the screws directly into with the drilling machine without make any holes before, otherwise the hinge might come out after some time
If you screw it directly the wood will split and then you got nothing
pilot holes are the essence of a good fix...
Vc precisa fazer um furo mais fino que o parafuso, assim nao corre o risco de folgar
Those pilot holes looked way too big..
Who on earth taught you how to cut in a hinge .....?
Thanks for the tip again! :)
I thought this was how to fix hinges, not install them lol
Must be a Southern way of saying install.
I’m fixin to correct your comment sir!
Fix has multiple meanings.
@@MrSladej yes sir lol
Why! The BG music ruined all my satisfaction and gave me anxiety.
So satisfying...
A router is 50 times faster than a chisel
Wow,its second Columbus...lol
Good work
Good idea 💡
What you use for the pilot hole? Doesn’t look like a normal drill bit
I know it’s a special bit just for drilling hinge holes. The outer casing of the bit sits in the holes and the the actual bit then moves down to plunge out the hole. Can’t think of the name
self centering drill bits i believe

@@Kristinapedia they’re Pozidriv wood screws, like the kind you get with IKEA flat pack furniture
@@zimzob That's the head type. But they are still sheet metal screws.
The chisel wrecked that wood try sharpening it
It's a wrong method. You should never drill holes before putting screw. It will be loose. Screw directly on the wood.
If the holes are not drilled the wood has a higher chance of cracking.
The wood will split. You guys always try to find some little tiny excuse because he does something you don’t like
Fantastic Video sir I
Tighten both the corners first. They don't wiggle when you tighten the middle ones.
Also, drill and screw in corners first before drilling middle
Cool and informetive
My partner is a professional carpenter and even i know that demonstration of cutting hinge pockets is poor ( sorry)
That’s right that’s how you do it professionally
Skill 👍
Good job my frend
Good method.
Que pieza es la que se usas antes de poner el tornillo? y si viene para aluminio
Oh!...
That's how that is done.
No será mejor hacer el sacado en la madera de un solo lado, así por ejemplo en una puerta tienes la ventaja de subir o bajar
I will teach you.... How to do this .. with.....only ......one Screwdriver......
There’s a better way than this (still similar tho) to install a hinge without that slop that you can see on the right side
At least he is using the chisel the right way.
@@benbrice9343 lol, I missed that,.... the right way to get a rough edge! haha

Very hard work bro
Some one who want to try this at home plese cut the required part to be joined to get this perfection
You used sheet metal screws. Wood screws would be better.
That's called perfection

There is no fix. Nothing was broken. Wish you would put correct titles
@Aidan Lapp hmmmm. But there are better words like to install or to fit a hinge
@@analogdistortion Well fixing it is literally what he does. He fixes the hinge to some wood with some screws.

@@analogdistortion No problem, I'm not trying to be smarter than you. I read the word "fix" as "repair" too because it's overused on the internet.

Why not have the edges be close to eachother?

With what kind of drill did you drill
What was wrong with them in the first place to where they'd have to be fixed? Just seems like you were installing a fresh hinge.
He was. To show how it's done.
I assume he is from the South or something, like when they say they are going to fix dinner.

I bet those screws poked out the other side... and us professionals use a jig and router for hinges not a chisel
He man how much price this machine tell me
Does the trick but I'd say a router will probably do you a little better.
Why drill crew it directly...
