In the Drama, there was a lot more focus on the harsh,perfectionistic conditions of the Wammy`s House orphanage,Light was more of an average student who gradually went mad with the power of the Death Note than the evil genius of the Manga and Anime and L whilst not an evil person by any means was more arrogant and manipulative which made many of those under his tutelage subconsciously resent him and Near as his prize pupil manifested that resentment as his alter Mello.
In other words, the Drama was less a cat and mouse game between two socially inept geniuses like the original story and more a socially inept genius detective trying to catch a kid with a notebook and said kid with a notebook doing everything in his power not to be caught and ultimately failing.
Mello will returns, in a new live-action of Death Note made for the creators of Stranger Things.

@@thushinidharmawardena9590 They gave Near DID in The Drama TV Film in Japan .Mello was his "bad boy" personality. They did reference the anime and manga version with one of Near`s puppets though.
