    I will be doing my BYOD as an existing tracfone user with the Moto X Pure as a GSM phone. I purchased a SIM kit but did not purchase an airtime card. I was hoping all of my existing minutes/data would xfer over. I guess I'll find out at the end of the week when it all arrives.

      +ron045 Your minutes shoulf transfer. The first tracfone setup I did was a transfer and all the minutes moved over. its from 2014, so a litle dated. ruclips.net/video/PVtVzcDSwUo/видео.html
      If you want to use the tracfone Verizon network, you can check if your phone is eligible here: www.tracfone.com/byop_finder_regis/index.jsp

    I am very tempted by the Blu R1 HD ($49/$59 for Amazon Prime members), and am considering using Tracfone BYOD to activate it. My current monthly usage on RingPlus is approx. 10 min. talk/0-10 texts/400MB data. About how much would that level of usage cost on Tracfone, and what kind(s) of top-up cards would I need to get for that?

    • @Smartphonematters
      @Smartphonematters  8 лет назад

      what are you paying per month with RingPlus?

    • @DOSBoxMom
      @DOSBoxMom 8 лет назад

      I have an $8.02 topup balance, and a $0/month bill. I'm having some device envy, though: my LG Volt on RingPlus is a couple of years old and using Android 4.4 (I think), while the Blu R1 HD that's on sale for $49/$59 at Amazon is rocking Android 6.0 "Marshmallow." Although my RingPlus phone calls get through OK, many RingPlus users have complained of latency issues, as well as of the whole "listen to ads instead of ringtones on outgoing calls" concept. RingPlus customer support is mostly through their forums, as they haven't enough staff to respond to online support tickets in a timely fashion; don't know how that compares to Tracfone customer support, though.

    • @Smartphonematters
      @Smartphonematters  8 лет назад

      Your spending about $98 a year on ring plus. Your usage of minutes and texts are low. Your data usage is about 4.8 GB a year.
      My guess $125 a year would give you 1500 minutes, 1500 texts, and 1500mb of data.
      plus another $30 for 3GB of data
      tracfone isn't know for its support.
      You don't need to listen to ads though and you'll the AT&T or Verizon network. if you want use the BLU you'll need to use Tracfone's ATT network.

    • @DOSBoxMom
      @DOSBoxMom 8 лет назад

      Actually, you don't want to multiply the $8.02 RingPlus topup balance by 12, as that's a 1-time until-it's-used-up deposit. I have been paying $7.99/month for FreedomPop's PremiumPlus services, though (for a different phone), so that $96/yr comes right back, and the "freemium" usage allotments would cover the level of use I've had on RingPlus -- if FreedomPop actually worked, which it hasn't, except for mobile data.
      Years ago, I had a "dumbphone" on Tracfone -- but I knew practically nothing about cellphones at the time, and Tracfone seems to have changed a lot since then. So I want to make sure I thoroughly research the best combination of price + call quality + customer service for my usage levels, before I spring for that heavily-discounted Blu R1 HD from Amazon Prime.

      I use Straight Talk, I have other family members on tracfone without issue. I think its great for the money. Haven't ever required support.
      You just need to make sure the AT&T network works in your area. If only Verizon has coverage in your area, you'll need to find a different phone.
      I had a BLU phone, it was good for the money. I gave it to a family member (who is using it with tracfone).
      The one thing I didn't like about my phone is that it was 8GB, and the camera app would not save photos to the memory card. Which I think is a problem. I'd get the 16GB version.

    Do you know if you can use the Moto X Pure Edition with the Verizon network? The Moto X has GSM and CDMA bands

    • @Smartphonematters
      @Smartphonematters  8 лет назад +1

      +JSantana319 I think so. I was researching what new, unlocked, no contract phones I could buy to try with the Tracfone Verizon CDME LTE sim. Looks like the Moto E and Moto G CDMA LTE phones are not sold direct, only through carriers.
      I think the Moto X pure would work. Buy it from Moto and you should be able to return it. I also think the Nexus 5p and Nexus 6x from Google should work as well as the older Nexus 6. If you want a big phone, check out some used Nexus 6 on eBay. Prices are way down. It would be a nice Tracfone.

      The phone has 2 sim slots. One is shared with the microSD card slot so you need to choose. If you use the micro SD card you'll need to use the other SIM slot see my other video ruclips.net/video/DbVFpL9B3xM/видео.html

    After you bring your own phone into tracfone and register with tracfone, does it add air time like any standard tracfone? Can you add air time by purchasing their air time cards on that activated phone?

    • @Smartphonematters
      @Smartphonematters  8 лет назад

      It's pretty much the same. You'll need an airtime card when you activate. They BYOP kit's usually come with one to start.

      I was able to transfer the minutes from a flip phone account to a BYOP iPhone a couple of years ago. They have these new smartphone plans now which are monthly but people seem to be able to still transfer minutes. Are you doing BYOP or buying the G5 from tracfone?

      If you are signing up you'll need to choose the nano SIM for the towers you wnant to use, that's either the AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon one. Choose the one that works best where you use your phone. For a plan you'll either need to choose the monthly plan with unlimited talk and text every month or the older plans with fixe minutes and a set number of service days.

    Can this work for any unlocked phone like the note 2

    • @Smartphonematters
      @Smartphonematters  7 лет назад

      Yes. An AT&T or T-Mobile Note 2 will work with Tracfone's ATT or T-Mobile network respectively. If you have a Verizon phone you may also use it with Tracfone's Verizon network but you'll need to check the MEID. I have a couple of playlists with all my tracfone videos you might want to check out.

      This video was from 2016. Tracfone's support for Verizon's LTE/CDMA network is pretty good in 2019. While I still think its easier to deal with their LTE/GSM networks I encourage people with a choice to choose the networks with the best coverage in their area.

    • @Smartphonematters
      @Smartphonematters  7 лет назад

      Possibly. I'd say if the Straight Talk phone is for the AT&T network it should work. If its for the Verizon or Sprint network not so much.
      If you can borrow an AT&T sim from a friend, try it. If it works the Straight Talk sim will too.
