i would love your amp but out of my price range love your incite and your vids
A perfect starter integrated amp for those who want maximum sound quality and speaker current matching capability. The compact dimensions of the unit is also ideal for those with limited space in their homes.
Yes great for someone who lives in a Condo.
I see it as more of a desktop system. I use a little dac/head amp and a little amp for the nearfield speakers. You don't need a ton of power when the speakers are 1m from your ears ;p Unless you are a loud listener or really need to push bass from inefficient speakers.
No sound stage. Flat as a skin of paint. No separation. Thomas and Jay are doing a promotion.
It should, maybe you had one with issues, let them know and see what they can do for you.
I own the Burson Funk with Vivid Op Amps. I will only add that it has a wonderful Class A headphone amp and the volume knob feels like it belongs on a much more expensive amp. Also turn off thump is part of the package. If it bothers you, press the headphone button, wait a few seconds and then turn off. That was instruction I got from Burson as switching to headphone input lets the caps discharge.
Oh good to know.
hi Sean, does the headphone amp provide a big airy soundstage ?

I enjoy your videos. Thanks for doing what you do. I own an Audiolab 6000A amp. I’m very happy with it. Excellent sounding amp. Fairly neutral with an Excellent Dac and plenty of inputs. Decent mm phono and a very good headphone amp.
I have to try that amp one day.
Hey Thomas, I own a heavily modified Marantz PM14 and I love it. Soundstage and depth are intense and ‘pushes’ my Focal Onyx speakers to the limit. Also a pair of GR-Research XLS-Encores sounds beautiful deep and airy. Love your channel and keep up good spirits! Warm greetings from the Netherlands, Bram

@@ThomasAndStereo I think we all can be pretty confident that you both know what you are doing! 😁
Great review Thomas ! Always enjoy your reviews though most of the stuff I can’t afford ! Thinking of getting this one, does it enhance the soundstage / airiness ?
The Burson Funk sounds pretty darn good!
Yes it does.
What about Wharfedal Elysian 1 review?
Recently purchased the Aesthetix Mimas integrated amplifier. Great sound paired with the Q Acoustics Concept 500.
Good choice!
Looks great, and seems like a practical way to take a desktop system to the next level.
Am I shopping? Yes, window shopping at least. I'm using a Synthesis Nimis (have been since 08). When I'm not using it, I'm browsing for the next amp. When I listen to it I think, man I'd be crazy to switch. It is a constant internal struggle. Lol.
Love your stuff Thomas. Keep up the good work.
Synthesis Nimis? Man you really need to spend a lot to have a true upgrade.
@@ThomasAndStereo That's what it seems to be. I love that amp! I've been enjoying it for the past 14 years. Maybe the best $1000 I've spent. Not counting the tubes I've rolled over time. Currently some Mullard 12ax7 and The Tube Store's branded Premium EL84s.
I'm curious though, where do you think the budget would need to be to "move up the ladder"?
Was about to impulse buy the Funk Max Current if it only had a remote..
Currently running the VMV A1 and really like it. It's my first taste of class A and the midrange is where the magic is for me.. tonally dense, textured and life-like. The bass is also nice and round. I do wish there was a little bit more top end openness and air, and maybe just a little bit more bite in the attacks.. but I'm trying to see if I can find these improvement elsewhere in the system.
Remember the A1 needs to hit volume 67 to open up the sound stage, so you need a preamp.
I have an a1 too powering my towers and I second this. It is my favorite integrated amp ever. Pure magic. High bandwidth, rich warm and it has a remote and standby button. Best ever
@@ThomasAndStereo Damnit.. trying to keep my system simple as possible.
Volume 67-69 puts it in "amp mode" right? I did try a Gustard H16 headphone amp/preamp for this purpose but it really closed the sound down in every way, not sure why.. running Denafrips Ares II and Bluesound Node
I own the Enleum Amp-23 I’m mostly a headphone user but I do have a pair of Falcon LS3/5A Gold Badge connected to it as well.
That thing is a beast...enleum
I’m a huge Burson fan… he’s starting with a pretty sweet platform before even adding his tuning preferences. I prefer the sparkos op amps to the vivids at least in the implementation I own. Will def check this product out.
Which Sparkos op amp do you use? I have a Burson dac with V6 Vivids all around...great clarity and detail, but sounds a tad bit thin (even with a pre-amp that adds a little weight in the low frequencies.)

Yes, with the Buchardt I150 but it would be another story telling instead of a review this time.
@@ThomasAndStereo Can’t wait!
Hi Thomas! I’m using a Pioneer Elite SXS30 streaming 2.1 channel receiver. It’s not super popular in the audiophile world but I enjoy it very much. MSRP is $500USD but I found a used one for $250. Plenty of power for any speaker I’ve tried with it (my room isn’t very big, however). Built in sub management is good. HDMI 4K ultra HD. Good sounding built in DAC. Very slim design. The built in phono preamp is terrible though so I am using a separate phono stage.
Nice, thanks!
Sometimes I feel these "non audiophile" products bring a bit more functionality, which can be good .
Dying to see a new room tour from you Thomas, curious how your setup has developed, the last time I recall you showed us your setup was 2020.
Bought it for my desk. Will be powering Sonus Faber Lumina 1. HD6XX and mod house argon mkiii. Current DAC is D10s will upgrade for Christmas (ares ii) I currently have the SMS VMV A1 on this setup. I have the Emotica Ta-100 running jamo s803 and s808 on my TV.
The VMV A1 is an amazing amp as I mentioned in my A1 review. The Burson will have a stronger lower warmer presentation. In this case, I think both are excellent but I would not say one completely beats the other one cause the A1 linear midrange is quite impressive.
I have been listening to the A1 & Lumina I combo for ~10 days and I'm now eagerly awaiting the Funk to add some warmth, stage and headroom :)
@@sammyb_tcg3485 I like the A1 myself, does it have enough power to drive the Lumina?

They look interesting, though I'm not a fan of the coolers being used and the text not being aligned for this orientation. Also the ribs.

I appreciate that
Hey Thomas, how does Jay's Funk compare to the Timekeeper 3i(All in one)? Especially for nearfield and desktop use? Thanks! :)
I personally like the Funk better because it has a warmer tone and smoother top end. When I am sitting close to a speaker and listen for long sessions, last thing I want is it to sound sharp and bright.
@@ThomasAndStereo Thanks for sharing!
I've been interested in Burson and this video really adds to my interest. I've had great desktop success with a top-of-the-line 9" Schiit Stack using Clear OG and Empire Ears Odin, but have become a little concerned about where Schiit is headed and it's a very open question of what is the next level up from Schiit without indulging in Veblen Goods.
Schiit products are really good too. High value for the money.
Hi Thomas, AMAZING as usual, I am looking for an amp for a second system and was debating between Triart S series and P series and now this Burson. Speakers will be Audio physic Tempo 6 in a 16ft X 18 ft room I don't listen loud.
Thanks, that is a big room and the speaker has a sensitivity for 89db. With a $4000+ speakers, I would get an amp that matches that level of performance instead.
@@ThomasAndStereo Thank you . I will look for a Simaudio 340i on the used market 😀
I didn't see this one either
Yeah, RUclips algorithm, sigh....
You got me curious but I'm resisting the temptation lol. I have to. I have the Vista audio spark 2 and currently have the Triangle borea 03 along with the rp 600m and liking the combo very much. I want to get a second amp and something at a much higher price point but just as fun as the spark. Been looking at Heed integrated amps. Specifically the Obelisk mk3 for a main system but review for Heed products are pretty sparse ( hint hint, wink wink lol ;)
I watched Jays release video for it and am intrigued. I am just getting into hifi and have Tektons being driven by a Rotel a11 tribute with bifrost as dac considering another system for my TV but just thinking about it now.
Unless you are buying to get that sound, it is a lateral move than an upgrade. I am guessing based on the price of the Rotel and I have never heard it.
I've had my Funk Max Current amp for several days and gotta say it's been a disappointment. I know it's designed for desktop/nearfield use, but it still doesn't get very loud. The sound is very dry and crisp, if that makes any sense. I can't use my powered subwoofer with the amp, either. I'm returning it tomorrow and reconnected my XLS 2502 this morning. My LS50 Metas sound rich and full again, though they still get a little piercing after a couple hours. I'm going to try some different speakers. I've got a pair of Polk L200 ordered. Should be delivered by Friday. Maybe my Metas aren't right for me. We'll see...
Ah, thanks for sharing your honest opinion. It is too bad it did not work for you.
@@ThomasAndStereo You're most welcome. I hope others have much better results.
@MadMaxx Were you using a proper pre-amp? My pre handles the output to the subwoofer, rather than the power amp. I'm not using a Funk, but a Burson Composer 3x for DAC and pre duties, going to a Hypex Class D power amp and KEFs.
Great video, Thomas! I'm using a Crown XLS 2502 + FiiO K9 ESS to drive my LS50 Metas. Great performance, though can be fatiguing at times. I ordered one of these Burson Funk Max Current amps, last week. Very interested to see if it can drive my Metas as well as Jay claims. Hope he's right!
Oh, please let me know, I am curious too. It will be less sharp compare to the crown and smoother, a question of taste if you prefer that.
@@ThomasAndStereo You got it! Just have to play the dreadful waiting game until September.
I've always used my Crown 2502 strictly for low end. It is bridged and drives my 2-15" open baffle dipole woofers that are wired parallel @ 4 ohms. But, I don't think it really lends itself to mid and higher frequencies. It is a very nice balance to my Ayon Orion II tube amp which drives the mids & highs on my tall multi-driver open baffle dipole line-arrays. I have the Crown crossed over @125.
Yes it can drive your metas in a desktop environment. I have a 84db sensitivity b&w 707 s2 and they drive them nicely. It is a smooth sound definitely, not fatiguing in any way.

Hi Thomas, on one of your clips i saw tannoy dimension speakers, what power amp can you recommend for them, is it a good idea to pair them with class d amps?
My tannoys are paired with micromega pw400 hypex ucd400hxr based amp and ps audio junior dac.
Have the funk and yeah its that good, just dont use it in stereo setup. I had it on my stereo setup for a month or so as my sprout 100 died. It sounded very good in my small listening space but im constantly nearing max volume for 70-75db listening. At the 3oclock volume the dynamics disappear and soundstage is narrow. It’s understandable since its a 35w amp. I have to replace it with more powerful amp.
But on my desktop, no speaker is hard to drive. Even my most inefficient b&w 707 s2 was no problem. It felt alive, music is enjoyable, grooving while doing some work, cant complain. Headphone section is as good.
I have the classics op amp as the vivid sound “too vivid” for me.
Nice, yeah this thing performs best in a nearfield environment.
Great review thomas 👍👍 how far away from the speaker do you reckon until we lose center image?
At 6ft, the image is ok but not rock solid as I like.
Thanks for this review. Can you do a review of that Sabaj A30a too?? Thanks.
Yes eventually.
So are you guys audio reviewers or Chinese amp floggers?
You do realized that Burson is an Australian company right? So are you trying to troll or have a productive conversation?
Show us your engineering chops if you're an amp designer. Me, I prefer Fluxion amps. Well designed by knowledgeable engineer. Not for high volume production. And reasonably priced.
But really. You can't be both without compromising your channel on RUclips. Just a fact.
@@bruce8429 Not an amp designer at all, but you don't need to be one to voice an amp.You need to be one to build one. Fluxion? Sure he absolutely knows what he is doing, I actually tried to hire him to build me a tube amp too.
So much video time devoted for such a tiny tiny amplifier. What's the point? How many watts is it? I'll come back and watch the rest of the video later, maybe. Would prefer to spend my time watching your other videos.
Oh the soundstage is unique on this amp.
I'm impressed! Kudos to Jay!
To me, 1st impression is always very important as that would be the 1st cut on whether I should even continue researching and auditioning a piece of equipment.
So that being said, how does it fare compared to mini chinese amps such as the SMSL VMV A1 and the more recent Topping LA90, or even the tube hybrid Tri-Art?
I might eventually do some comparison videos, the problem is I need the time to sit down and ABC test things.
@@ThomasAndStereo yes, ab-ing is tedious and tiring, unless one of them really stood out and requires a confirmation
Were you listening to the Sabaj’s built in DAC or the same external DAC that you used with the Burson? That would be the only fair comparison.
With an external DAC, yes the Sabah levels up but the tone is still the same.
Hi Thomas,
I am from Europe and decided to buy the css criton 1tdx with superior crossover... Do you think I can match it with the smsl vmv a1 or a2 ? Iam just a student but I want the maximum value. Or do you think that another amp is better for the css speaker kit(under 1000 dollars)? I know that this video is about an other amp, but I don't know how to reach out to you.
I love your videos. Please keep going 🔥🔥🔥
Lukas, all those amps that have good review, they are all good and if they are from Asia, they are good value for the money. The problem is always support and also your taste. VMV A1 and A2 sound different, very different. Which one you choose will depend on your taste. if you want to be sure, then choose a company that allows you to return.
Thanks for your advice

Yes. Clearly he is scratching Jay's back. I fell fir Jay's pr and bought Burson Funk. It is flat as a skin of paint with no sound stage or depth. It has a hard, first generation transistor soung. Rolling the op amps makes no difference and is only a gimmick. You can see what a fake it is with Jay's signature but no subwoofer out and only one input, essential for a desktop mini-amp.
I have a diy current amp few years ago based on lm1875 it is not that powerful, but i might say i hear some faint background instruments in a music which seems never there before when you are listening with voltage amp. Am not an audiophile but can tell the difference, my speakers are sets of salvaged small fullranger...no mid and high drivers, just single fullrange per channel but you can hear the clarity of the music...
Burson Audio is an Australian company just in case people wondering. I went to their website and checked their about/contact. It does not list any contact info at all. Also it lists this item as $750 but not sure in what currency is it - Australian Dollar? Company should be more transparent as pricing currency and company info. so we don't have to look for Uncle Google.
I think $750 is the normal edition, if you look at the top of their shopping page, it is written "All prices are denominated in US Dollars." On the top right of their page, there is a big email button in red, click on that to get in touch with them.
Check the site some more mate, am pretty sure all the questions you have are answered.
I think prices direct are $US , they are reputable.
The website could be easier to navigate for sure.
I want it. But I really don't like the gold bling. Im tempted to pay more to get the max power supply and updated op-amps in regular color chassis just to avoid the gold bling.
I think Jay did some tuning to the sound so that is why it is warmer. If you just update the amps and max power, I am not sure you will get the soundstage and warmth. Email and ask him.
I have a Rogue Cronus Magnum III integrated tube amp and I may be selling it soon. If I do, I will likely go with a Pass Labs INT-25.
Why upgrade?
Wow! That is a lovely amp Bro! Very sleek. I'm surprised that for a tube amp with such small transformers that you get 100w/side! Impressive. The transformers are frigg'n *HUGE* on my Ayon Orion II integrated Class A tube amp, 60w/ side. The damn thing weighs over 90 pounds! 😲
I don't understand "max current". Current is voltage divided by resistance. I=E/R. the power of a supply is P=EI, if a supply meets a spec, say, 50 volts with a power rating of 100 watts then the supply will be capable of 2 amps, that's its max current, after that point the supply voltage drops. Period! Any supply can be designed to have, say, 100 amps at 50 volts, that supplies rated power will be 5kW. Basically there's no such thing as a 'max current" amp. The amp will draw the current it needs to supply its load. P=I^2R, if it can't then the supply is poorly designed, it's not designed to meet that amps load parameters.
Sound is not an aspect of current, it's an aspect of several other factors. More current does not mean it will have better dynamics, smoothness or any other audio characteristic. High current amps are a misnomer and advertising hype, there's no such thing.
Sound is an aspect of how we contour chips, tube biasing or a number of other factors, again , not current. This is basic electronics.
Man, I wish I have the technical expertises to give you an intelligent answer.
@@ThomasAndStereo Thomas, if Jay's amps sounds good, and I think you and Jay have pretty good ears, probably better than mine, it is likely the chips and their configuration are the reason not the current capability so please don't think I'm negative on his amp, it might sound really great.
@@mosfet500 Not at all, you ask a good question and it was not in any negative way too.
crown gives you great power for the money plus god sound at a much cheaper price
But it is not a smooth warm sound. I had the crown 2502 and it sounds nothing like this amp. If you prefer a sharper and more colder sound, sure that would be your better choice.
No it does not. Crown is a professional amp company. Professional means it's built like a tank to take to concerts. It's priority is playing as loud as possible through a PA speaker and not breaking ever. That's why professional amps are cheaper and usually have fans. Home audio is low power higher quality power. Think going from a gmc suburban to a corvette. Both can have v8s but the gmc is to carry your tools. The corvette is for pleasure.

For someone who is able to get into Med school, I don't think he is a joke. Not to mention supervising a team of scientists.
@@ThomasAndStereo ..As someone who has watched him from the very start .. he is a joke .. in Audio
@@presidentpotato222 ah he has been doing a lot of blind tests now and even with cellist Vincent Belanger, perhaps you should give him another try now.
Reviewing his friend's product...yeah, no conflict of interest there at all, bwahaha.
You know, I don't think I ever seen a positive comment from you. Why come to a party and bring negativity? Instead of dreading reading your comments everytime, it would be a nice change looking forward to hearing from you. I do appreciate you always show up though.
@@ThomasAndStereo Nice attempt at changing the subject.
@@elonmuskrat2830 There is no need for me to change any subject, you mind has already made up, I was just letting you know how I feel because I see you frequently commenting, I am going to assume you watch my videos so I took the time to engage you.
@@ThomasAndStereo You're just mad because I said I have no interest in your Gaylion amp.
@@elonmuskrat2830 I actually thought it was cute. My point is don't just only put negative comments, put both so it sounds more like honest feedback as oppose to trolling.
