I've just invested in a Touch Impress, with thanks to your videos Kev! I must say I'm loving it but a complete novice, so that fact that this machine helps me make a half decent long black and latte is brilliant. Going to start experimenting with other coffees now. I have some freshly roasted beans ready for the next refill. Keep the Impress videos coming :)
Hi I'm new around here, discovered your channel after talking with my cousin Zeet. Just arrived here tomorrow and after watching this video later on today I just bought my new coffee machine. I have to say if your videos are all of this quality il have to tell my friends back home too!
I am actually leaning toward the Barista Pro because I like making coffee but want a better workflow from my Bambino and ESP. My wife would much prefer the Touch Impress though. A bit of a gap in thinking, lol.
Difficult to say as they're both very new. The touch impress in theory has more componentry to potentially fail, so from that perspective I'd say generally speaking I'd expect the general life expectancy of the slightly less technologically advanced express impress to be longer than the touch impress, bur that's just in theory.
Got my touch impress today the drinks don’t seem hot enough if I poor water in a cup it’s only 60c the drink is ok to drink straight away but it’s luke warm after 5 mins
Been thinking of investing for a while in a decent espresso machine, and do still want a bit of time to myself, rather than taking ages to make a small coffee. However, I do have a question re the express impress and that is height. The details advise 41cm, but does that include the height of the hopper? I have limited height on my worktops, so it would be good to get clarification - Thanks and keep up the great videos
Hi Kev, Loving your content. I have the older Sage Barista Express (SES875) and I’ve been all set to replace it with a Touch Impress. I’m ok with my current machine that I’ve had since 2021, but I sometimes get frustrated with not so good results, but think that’s down to me and also some of the off the shelf coffee I buy. (I always get good crema but sometimes get what I think is bitter drink) I’m also finally getting good at steaming milk. Anyway, to the point. The more I look into the Touch Impress, the more I feel it might be a backwards step for my coffee making skills. I thought it might take away a little faff and with that, also opens this up to the rest of the family, who just want to make a coffee. And perhaps help with my inconsistency when making drinks. But should I be looking at something else? Or could I still use the Touch Impress in more of a ‘coffee geek’ mode, should I still want to? Cheers, Gary B.
Hi Kev, can you actually use the grinder on the Touch Impress to grind an extra coffee (let's say to take it to work for your aeropress) and then of course make your usual home drinks or would the machine itself got confused as it apparently learns and memorises the beans you use and type of drinks you pull? Do you still do those discount vouchers on them? Thanks Martin
Hi Kev. I'm thinking of getting the barista touch impress but recently noticed delonghi la specialista maestro. Do you know that machine? Is it similar at all?
Hi, I don't believe they're similar at all. See the comparison I did of the Specialista Prestigio vs the Express Impress. ruclips.net/video/wNk6tcHu9G4/видео.html Ta, Kev.
Can you use VST baskets in the touch impress? Wondering how the tamper works with say an 18g VST and if it moans for more grounds when single dose grinding.
Any thoughts on why my espresso is sour? I have the touch impress, used a medium light roast at 22 grind roasted on 11/13/23 today is the 18th. The machine is showing it has perfect flow and it isn’t as sour as it was at 15, but it’s still sour. Anything I could do to help with this? Is there a video of yours you’d recommend to help me out? Thank you for your knowledge.
Hi 🙂, lighter roasts are harder to work with, just keep that in mind. Are you using the default brew temp? If you're using something on the lighter side, you may want to up the brew temp, the touch impress can be taken up four notches, or down four, from the standard 93 degrees. I'd try knocking the brew temp up to hotter 1, to begin with. Then, I'd play around with the grind size and also the ratio. You may have to ignore the barista guidance when it comes to whether the flow rate is correct, and be lead more by taste, given you're using a light roast. If it still tastes sour, you can fix this mainly with grind size and also ratio, you could also experiment further with brew temp. I'd focus on a combination of grind size and ratio. The sourness usually means that you're not extracting enough, you can fix this with ratio, by pulling a bigger shot with the same dose weight, the only issue with this is that you can only really do it to a point without sacrificing mouthfeel and intensity, for example you might have a really chewy mouthfeel and really good intensity, but an overly tangy taste, so you up the ratio (pull a 50ml shot for example from 18g instead of 36g) and then you fix the tanginess but you lose the chunky mouthfeel and the intensity. So you'll want to try to use the grind size as much as you can to up the extraction, but with a machine like this you may find that you don't have the kind of control over extraction that may do with a higher end grinder, and light roasts are a real challenge even with higher end gear. You'll find slightly darker roasts much easier to work with. Cheers Kev
@@Coffee_Kev Thank you for getting back with me, this really helps. I did notice leaving some beans in the hopper changed the flavor. So I make sure to keep it empty. I did up the temp to #3 and actually managed to get a really nice espresso once, then I changed from a single shot basket to a double and now it's back to being sour. I'm definitely going to try it without the assistance, like you said since these are lighters beans they're trickier and I'll have to go off taste. I've basically been getting Sour Patch kids flavor. I'm going to pick up a couple bags of espresso blend hopefully that'll make the difference. Appreciate your advice and knowledge!
Hey Kev, Any idea why my 1st cup of the day is pretty much perfect 20g in 42g out in 28sec and then the 2nd cup is always more so 20g in 60g ish out in 28sec I’m not changing anything between shots like beans, grind size or puck prep - I just always extract more on the 2nd shot (and the 3rd if I have one) Adjusting grind size between shots doesn’t seem like the correct thing to do - I thought once it’s dialled in then that’s it until the next bean change I’m using a 2mth old Oracle - so pretty much new TiA
@@Coffee_Kev Hey Kev - yeah the 2nd cup is pretty much straight after the 1st cup (like within minutes) I usually have 2 or 3 cups in a row for breakfast and yes the beans are stored in the hopper- I don’t single dose - someone advised me that the Oracle may not be tamping consistently after the 1st shot and perhaps try manual grinding and tamping to get better consistency but I got the Oracle to avoid that step
Hey kev New to this game but iv being looking at the difference between Touch vs Touch impress , i know the impress is more hands off and is a better machine if you want the Auto and normally the touch impress is the one recommended, but are the extra features worth it on the impress due to the fact the normal "Touch" has a much cheaper price tag due to black friday need some help brother
I heard the touch impress has the baratza ESP grinder which is a better grinder than the one in the express impress. Does this result in taste differences for medium or light roasts?
Yeah, the touch impress (and all the other integrated grinder machines except the barista express) have the same burrs as the Baratza ESP, the Etzinger burrs. Whether it results in a taste difference, is difficult to say, my feelings overall is that the original fullnice burrs are fine, but I believe the Etzinger burrs have been developed more with freshly roasted beans in mind.

When this was recorded did the Touch Impress have the improved Baratza burrs?
Particularly good looking? Had a great laugh watching this one.

I'd go with the Sage Express it's simpler and easier to use. Great video as usual !

Thank you for this! Really helped me decide 😊
What are your thoughts on the impress touch vs Oracle touch…I assume the milk foam would be different?
Coming soon, there are a few things actually.

Kev is there a machine like this but i can have my own grinder ? I don’t like the idea of leaving the beans sit in there but the rest of it seems fine
