Climbing the most amazing mountain on the island of Mauritius.
Pieter Both, sometimes referred to as Peter Botte Mountain, is the second highest mountain of Mauritius, at 820 meters. It is named after Pieter Both, the first Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies. It is located in the Moka Range.
The notable feature of this mountain is the gigantic rock formation at the very top of it, which resembles a human head.
I managed to climb to the top of the mountain twice in a few days. On the first ascent, I was not very lucky and at the top I was caught by thick clouds blocking the view.

An amazing climb. Stunning images. Just so spectacular. As a teenager I was very much into rock climbing but am sure I would never have had the nerve to tackle anything so impressive. Nowadays some fifty years on I no longer have the athleticism. nerve or balance to climb. It was mightily impressive to watch you. Have a great 2023.

Hi Petr Podrouzek, My name is Joseph but over here in Uk my friends and family call me John. Congratulations to your achievement in climbing Pieter Both. This is indeed a feat because not many people can claim to having climbed Pieter Both. I have climbed both mountains including the Pouce Mountain overlooking Port Louis in my twenties along with some friends, that was about 54 years ago. But Pieter Both is more of a challenge than practising any type of sport. My friend Joseph climbed the mountain along with me and we met couple of Mauritian climbers near the top. Joseph emigrated to Canada many years ago and I migrated to UK back in the 1979. It was quite challenging to climb Pieter Both without any ropes or pick axes. A friend took pictures of us when we were at the top of the mountain. Keep doing what you consider as a sport or challenge but also make safety as a top priority.
I must say that we climbed Pieter Both without any ropes but we were fortunate because the weather was good and clear , you could see near enough the whole island of Mauritius. I have still got some pictures of us climbers on the top of the mountain. Anyhow thank you for your RUclips video and I wish you all the best in your future enterprise.

Hi Petr Podrouzek, Thank you for your reply of the 28th Dec 2023. When I climbed Pieter Both I was near enough 20 years old. It was quite a fascinating experience. The weather conditions at the time were ideal. We did not think about the dangers of climbing the Pieter Both, anyway it would be more challenging to climb the mountain again because of my age being 75 years old. Ahoj. Parádní místo a atmosferický halový jev...trefil jsi skvostné podmínky....a krásné záběry dolezeni na vrchol. Krása.
Ahoj, bylo to bomba. Při prvním pohledu ze sedla jsem si chvíli myslel že to asi s vybavením které jsem sebou měl nedám, ale asi bych pak nemohl dlouho klidně spát tak jsem vyrazil. Měl jsem trochu jinou představu o výsledném videu, ale bylo by to dost náročné natočit, tak alespoň tohle. Dron mně nechtěl pořádně sledovat, na vrcholu odmítal létat do boku. Dvakrát mi s ním při přistání na vrcholu flákl vítr o zem, ještě že jsem měl sebou náhradní vrtule. Bylo to moc pěkný dobrodružství. Možná by to bylo fajn ve dvou a filmovat se navzájem. :-)

Hi Petr. I have come to this video again this morning after watching it last night. I kept dreaming about it. A mountain that I have always looked at from the ground with the man standing very high and still in all weather, sometimes not visible due to low clouds. Amazing that I have now seen the top of this man's head. Very frightened that all these big rocks which have been there for millions of years will eventually fall off one day. There is a myth that our elders used to tell us about this man. It is that he climbed up the mountain to peep at fairy women swimming in the sea below and the fairies cast a spell on him and he froze there since. By the way, did you see any of those fairies? :) :)

Yes, I flew a drone while climbing, but it was very challenging. There was a strong wind, the drone didn't want to follow me. The drone almost crashed several times. It was a very exciting event. :-)

Skoby už tam boli, lano jsem měl svoje. 🙂🙂 Lezu to trochu prasácky, ale bylo to kvůli dronu, který mě natáčel v režimu Follow me a v silném větru to s ním mlátilo a moc neposlouchal. Tak abych s ním mohl vždy co nejdříve zase přistát.... Je to na delší pování 🙂
