  • This is my Quorn Tool and Cutter grinder which I have owned for 7 years. Currently it is set up for endmill flute grinding.
The custom cabinet stand which has eight drawers, is made from sheet metal.
There is plenty of tooling with the machine allowing many different types of work to be undertaken.

Very nice machine. Did you build it?

Hi thanks for your comment. I really wish I could say that I built it but I didn't. When I bought the grinder it came in a fitted timber box complete with compartments for the wheels and accessories. The builder really put some effort into this and I think he built it during the 80's.

@@ktreplicas Thanks for replying. I've never seen one of these grinders for sale. Question, if you don't mind? If I found a grinder like yours, about how much would I expect to pay for it?

    • @ktreplicas

@@FCleff I think I paid around £700 from a dealer about 5 years ago but the prices have risen a fair bit since then. This one came with alot of stuff, I got quite lucky as its got accessories in the drawers to cover a big range of cutter grinding. Ofcourse, not everything gets used!

What a lovely piece of kit. Nicely executed and equipped. The silicon sealing in the slots is essential. GBP 700; what an absolute bargain. My billet Quorn is 25% bigger with 20 inch bed (and only half finished). I'm stealing some of these ideas for my grinder. Love the cabinet. Would love to see some vids of the unit in action.
I'm doing similar balancing arrangement with my additional surface grinder hubs.
I'd be itemizing that grinder in my will. 🤣🤣🤣 That is perfection.

Thanks Trevor. No need to steal them, you can have them 👍. I may do a video of me sharpening some cutters but I haven't got enough blunt ones to warrant the setting up yet.
Yes the balancing set up works perfectly, definitely worth tapping all those holes! Good luck with the rest of your build...

and that's what you call "diy" grinder ... apprentice marks all over the place. And the cabinet with kitchen towels, food storage boxes and old yoghurt packaging really puts the professionalism out there. It's the stereotypical home shop owner tinkering around in his garage with the washing machine running in the background and the wife bringing the laundry in.

Hi, thanks for your comment. The previous owner, the guy that made it during the 80's did I good job building it. When I bought it, the Quorn came with a small fitted wooden box full of tooling. Most items you see in the drawers it came with and I've added a fair few pieces. Some bits I've never used. The finish is 10/10 as it was painted with a high build putty before the top coat.
Maybe next time I sharpen a cutter I'll aim the camera that way!

I've used the Quorn to re-sharpen endmills and slot drill including the flutes. I've also used it to re-sharpen chatter free countersinks. I've never used it to sharpen lathe tools etc.

The only new tool and cutter grinders I see for sale these days are made in China. They will get the job done but they certainly aren't the same quality, nor do they come with so many accessories.

    What is it for?

    • @ktreplicas
      @ktreplicas  9 месяцев назад +1

I use the Quorn for re-sharpening Endmills and Slotdrills but it can be used to grind a very wide variety of things and not just workshop tools. Most Endmills that are of the cheaper Chinese quality just don't cut very well even after a re-grind, so I find it better to buy old industrial cutters and re-grind them. Last week I ground a couple of tiny tapered pins for some Carburetors so its a very versatile machine tool to own.
