Hi we did not know this was a video you did, great to stop in look back into your videos and watch this video of sharpening small tool bits that fits these two guys here. Really nice video glad we did look into this. What a really good stable sized tool grinder.

Thanks for sharing the Quorn in action!!!! I enjoyed it. Would appreciate additional quorn videos, if you have the opportunity.
I think this is the first/only Quorn video I have seen..

Thank you, There will be more on the Quorn both of it in use and also of finishing it and some upgrades, i have used it for several years mainly sharpening end mills but i have not been completely satisfied with its performance so it has never been completely finished. Since I am setting up the tooling for the Atlas Lathe I intend to use the Quorn to sharpen the Lathe bits for both the tool posts and the Tailstock turret tools.s

    Hi,
I enjoyed your video and I'm VERY impressed that you're making your own patterns and castings for the additional odds and ends on the QUORN. I built a QUORN too and I've found that roughing tools out on a conventional bench grinder REALLY speeds up the whole process. Just a suggestion.
    GREAT JOB,
    F.C.

Thank you, I sometimes will rough out on the grinder or belt sander, but the extra time spent on the quorn is good practice.

@@hillsgun Amen to practicing on the QUORN. I found it to have a VERY steep learning curve but, at my age, everything seems to have a steep learning curve. Keep up the great work,
      F.C.

Very interesting I'm brand new to Machining trying to learn everything I can before I even go out and set my lathe up.

Go out and get it going, learning comes from making a start.

@@hillsgun I agree that's how I learned welding 25 years ago. Problem is is it took me probably six years to overcome all the bad habits I learned :-) I am going to get it going though here in the next month hopefully.

Quorn in action! Love it! Hello, could you please tell me if you locked the part holder to the shaft and then advanced the part into the cutter with your left hand? Thank You for sharing the video.

Would you know the size thread it is.

yes the holder is locked to the shaft for this operation and the front bar is free to rotate , the whole assembly is advanced with the micrometer screw on the left end of the bed. The micrometer screw is called out at 3/8 BSF in the drawings, I don't remember exactly but I believe I built this with 40 tpi.

What’s the purpose of this tool and can you send a link so I can see what it does it kinda looks like a drill bit and neat enough I’d like to make one myself

    • @hillsgun

the cutter is for a lathe, the machine is a tool grinder, do a search for quorn tool and cutter grinder. Dan.

@@hillsgundo you have a video of it in use and I know about the quorn I believe that’s how you ran Accross my feed I’ve been watching several peoples build of the tool grinder but that tool you made I’ve never seen anything like it I really like the idea if it’s doing what I think it is

I thought it was my imagination but the head seemed to rock back and forth on the body while grinding....this is not acceptable for any grind.

You are correct, I hadn't noticed it in this video, the head on this machine has to be tighter than usual to hold the head in position.
