If you purchase one of their flip up outlet boxes that they advertise as 20 amp, with the 20 amp outlets, and you are planning to use it as 20 amp with 12/2 Romex, better crack that outlet open and see what they wired it with. If like my double gang flip up outlet box in brass, it will be 14 AWG wire, which is not compatible with 20 amp circuits. Hell, they installed 20 amp outlets, why not wire it correctly!
You will need to find some 600 volt rated, or 200* celsius rated 12 AWG strand copper to replace the 14 AWG inside the box. It has to be very flexible, as the outlets do move and take the wiring with them. I removed their wiring and went direct to the outlet, and left the ground intact. I will add an additional ground.
If you are running 14/2 romex to the box, no worries. But if you bought their 20 amp rated box, you will more than likely have to repair it to use in a 20 amp circuit. I plan on running my stereo with a couple of amplifiers, I need the direct circuit from the panel and am doing the drop with 12/2 romex.
This really pissed me off when I opened up the box to see if there was really 12 AWG wire in there to support the advertised 20 amp rating. One look I could see it was not 12 AWG, and it was marked 14 AWG. Another day wasted, as I had to order the proper wiring for their advertised 20 amp box. That got here today... Then I have to take both of the outlets apart, which entailed removing most every screw, took roughly an hour to get apart and put back together with the CORRECT wiring.
I started this job yesterday, this is a simple drop, a simple hole in the floor, no obstructions running the 12/2 romex. This should have been a two hour job, three at most. Now, I am going into my third day as I await connectors to marry the stranded copper to my solid copper wiring. Pissed off in Michigan. You would think for $160 they would install the CORRECT wiring!
I have everything ready to go, floor cut, box installed, romex installed, and here I sit, no outlet. Really REALLY PISSED.
