For those who did not get it: it was a concert of Caballe and Horne. Caballe makes a quite deep note and sounds like Horne, that's why she puts that "wow I did it" face and looks to her side, because Horne was right there. Here is a longer scene so you can understand it better ;D Montserrat Caballe "Tanti affetti" La donna del Lago
César Solaz, thank you for the explanation of this clip. Can you tell me what Ms. Horne's reaction was? Were you in attendance? What a privilege it would have been to see this live! Thank you.
I just love her doing this number. One of my go to selections of this same selection is the one she does on stage with Zubin Mehta conducting! She was a wonderful, darling lady!
As a music school graduate in classical singing, I must say - sometimes it really works that way! When your body is showing you what you are capable of and what our abilities are in an unexpected moment. Such an amazing feeling!
@@julia.kowalsky I'm not music school graduated person but I did study a little bit of music and am mostly trying to learn music myself) Picking highest notes and having vibrato in the end for me always a shock......however rare it happens:D
She is simply amazing! She cannot be matched in floating a pianissimo over an entire orchestra. How does anyone even do that?! It seems impossible to me that her sound can still be heard.
I was once restoring one of her old audios, Norma from 1974, and so had an opportunity to see how her pianissimo looks in the audio processing program. With other singers, the loudness and the size of vibrato and formants always go up and down during prolonged notes, Caballe's vibrato looked like the first second of it was printed and then copy-pasted for the next 20 seconds. Insane, almost inhuman breath control, she had in her prime years. In old times, they trained it by singing a note close to the lit candle. With the correct technique, the flame would slightly bend and then remain nearly still. I don't think anyone can do it these days - things like 'Preghiera' are now not sung 'as written'.
This demonstrates why she's always my been favourite... She's one of the most brilliant, celebrated artists of all time, yet she doesn't take herself too seriously either. Such joy and playfulness she has within the music. Just adorable!
There wasn't anything she couldn't sing at one time or another. The greatest opera singer in the world. Plus she would continue to sing almost up until her death. She was 85 years old. Awesome Montserrat, you were and will always be, AWESOME!!!!!
I remember her doing Norma in Johannesburg in the seventies and her voice cracked because of the severe altitude and dryness there. She came on stage after the act to apologise! Meanwhile I was swooning at the most magnificent voice I have ever heard then and since.
Don't act surprised lovely Montsi, you know darn well why they're clapping! Cause you dodged the first B-flat, and they thought they weren't gonna be getting any at all! Love her.
I was once privileged to take my parents and some friends to a concert given at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, by Monserrat Caballe. Apart from the blisteringly magnificent singing, she filled the whole evening with amusing little asides and often self-deprecating humour. At the end, there was a standing ovation for several minutes. She bowed and smiled and walked off stage. A few moments later and she was back again. When the applause had subsided (she herself had to sign for it to do so!) she said, with mock pathos, 'They say I sing enough, and I must stop now. I say, 'Oh no...I sing just one more song, please.' They say, 'Hokay!' but I going to sing three! Then she shrieked and rocked with laughter, sang three more, and brought the house down! What a wonderfully kind and warm lady, and of course a peerless cantatrice!
She was just so much fun. She seemed to have such great zest for life. I saw her live in Barcelona back in 2007. I wish I could have seen her in her prime years when she was singing the great bel canto roles.
A true singer with a natural voice, I mean not a fake voice, wirh chest notes and amazing high notes. Old school guys. Love this Lady and love you for posting it. 😍

I LOVE this moment. Another nice moment in this concert was when the two of them combined beautifully in the barcarolle "Belle nuit" from The Tales of Hoffmann- holding (as I recall) helium-filled balloons and gently swaying to the beat.
