If you are considering using Amazon to buy the Synology DS1522+ NAS, you can use the link here - amzn.to/3ORKKlO
I think it would be safe to say that Synology sells quite a lot of NAS. The brand has always had a strong focus on software and providing ‘solutions’, as opposed to ‘flogging hardware’, but ultimately the outcome is that Synology continues to be the top brand in network-attached storage worldwide. One of the biggest reasons for this of course is Diskstation Manager (DSM, currently in version 7.1), the fully-featured network software that is easily comparable in design, utility and quality to many top tier operating systems. DSM 7 is included with all Synology NAS systems to largely the same degree, but when it comes to hardware, their portfolio has tended to spread itself a little more in order to cater for those looking for value, power, features or scale - giving the end-user an opportunity to spend their budget on the areas of NAS that matter most to their network environment. The 2021/2022 released Synology DS2422+ NAS in today’s review is an interesting example of these lines being blurred by the brand and in doing so, trying to provide a little bit of everything. Arriving as the follow up to the DS2419+, this new massive 12-Bay SMB (small/medium business) solution has tweaked a few things it’s architecture, as well as including some of the opinion dividing changes to DSM 7 that have been rolled out in the last 12 months. The DS2422+ arrives with the now well established Ryzen embedded processor series, the opportunity for lots of memory, huge storage scalability, network upgradability and arrives as a solution that hopes to be the center of your home/business storage for many years (evolving over time). So today I want to review the Synology DS2422+ NAS and help you decide if it deserves your data.

Just installed 2x Kingston MSI32D4S2S1ME-8 8GB 260Pin SO-DIMM DDR4 -- Working great so far in the DS1522+,
also put in 2x 1TB WD blue M.2 NVMe and 5x WD RED 18tbs in RAID 6
hi, what model of the 1TB WD Blue M2''s are you using? Would the 1TB WD Blue SN570 work?
Still ok so far?
@@FamilyInvestments it’s doing great still
@@frozeninfernovfx9460 How about now? Are you getting notifications? Are they annoying?
@@azwb whenever the system reboots it lets me know I’m not using proper memory. That’s the only time I get messages. I clear the message and it’s good to go.
I don’t generally look at your tabs. Nice!
I came here to say this. Nice!
Thanks for these tests very helpful!
As for the microphone bass thumps, maybe you can try putting a steep 60-80hz high-pass audio filter to minimize them? Or a mount attached to the wall.
Thks & you're quite amazing Mr RAM
Great video, and very helpful!
I would like to know if it's possible to just add one of these memory sticks to the 8GB that comes with the NAS?
Yeah, I also wonder if I could add a 16GB module to the preinstalled 8GB...
Don't believe you can add ECC and non-ECC together. You have to go all one or the other (it is possible adding non-ECC will just disable the ECC function on the existing 8GB, but normally it just refuses to work)...
Do you have a video testing the m.2 sdd for the 1522+ I want to know which options I have different than the synology m.2 sdd. Thanks.
I installed OWC 32GB (2X16GB) DDR4 RAM purchased from Amazon. Took about 20 minutes to initialize and boot up the first time. This was 3 months ago now it takes 8 minutes to boot up. Also I can't get more than 24 gigs of RAM out of the 32 gigs. I tried to SSH in and change it to 32gb with no luck. Other than that it's working fine for me.
I did try out a QNAP NAS which I had upgraded to 64GB of RAM and it took ages (many minute) to boot - pretty dreadful considering it had it's OS on an internal solid state boot device and I had also added 2 x NVMe for caching/ZFS support...
Nice content!
Thankyou, went with 2x Kingston Server Premier - DDR4 16 GB - SO DIMM 3200 MHz / PC4-25600 - CL22 - 1.2 V ECC KSM32SED8/16MR. My thinking why not use parity ECC memory when it's not very expensive. 32GB.
Thinking of buying two of Kingston KSM32SED8/16MR. Do they work fine for you? Done a memory test?
@@nicklasnylund7412 they work fine except the nagging message after a reboot.
@@crion88 Thanks! And it did go through a memory test without issues?
It seems KSM32SED8/16MR is registered (buffered) but the original synology D4ES01-16G is unbuffered. Will that cause any problems?

I really like your seagull. :) Won't lose her.
I've considered mincing it several times..

Can you post a affiliate link for your suggested combination to get 64gb of Ram. Thanks for your research.
Synology nas ds1522+ should i get 2 16gb stick or one 32gb stick in regarding dual channel. Is there any performance gain with 2 sticks?
can you upgrade just the empty ram slot (ex Crucial 16GB CT16G4SFD8266) and use it with the original 8GB, so i do have 24GB ram?
You cannot combine non-ECC memory with ECC memory, will not work, but you can buy another same memory and add it.
Please Post the Product Number of the 32 GB Crucial Module. I bought the 923+ and want to use also the 64 GB Variant.
Why you like wasting money and destroying your NAS. If you had real money you’d build one not buy a Synology.

The link in the description for the crucial 16 GB, is a link to 16 gigs of laptop memory. Can you please make the change to this error.
It’s not image is just stretched you dodo bird
And all synology ram is laptop ram so if that word confused you then probably don’t even upgrade it’s beyond your capability
