Oh, there are two from my youth I would LOVE to find again. They were aimed at teenagers. One was from the 50’s called “Put Your Best Face Forward.” One was from the 70’s called “A New You.” I read them again and again and again. ❤
I remember finding a book when I was a teen. It was a guide to hair, makeup, skin care and fashion/style. From the 1950s. I cannot remember the name of it. But I remember it has skincare routines. I think maybe it was part of a ciriculum for a high school health class? I wish I still had the book. It was so fascinating.
There is a real charm to these books. I can see why you like them.
I love the vintage books like this. I also love vintage cook books and women's magazines from the same time. Thank you for sharing this! You look beautiful as always.
You are such an old soul like me. Love your collection!!!
Thank you for sharing!
These books have nothing on your very own Milk & Honey Beauty guide! I read your beauty guide weekly! I could not live without it! So thank you 💗🌸💞
Oh, I love this video! And I have a few books to add to yours, because I do the same thing - collecting beauty and grooming books, as well as vintage homemaking and etiquette books! I have a few of the same ones you have, but will look for some of the others! Here are a few more that I have that you might like: Mala Rubenstein's Book of Beauty is one I know you'd like. She was Helena Rubenstein's niece and went through all the beauty training and opened salons all over the world. I've read this one over and over. It was written in 1972, but goes farther back in time talking about grooming and routines, with, of course, diet and exercise. Another is Guide to Glamour (Terry Hunt's Handbook of Beauty, Charm, and Poise) with a foreward by Betty Grable. It was written in 1949. Another is The Woman You Want To Be -- Margery Wilson's Complete Book of Charm. Originally written in 1928; my copy is from1942. I also have a little booklet called "Charm Manual," put out by Dana Deering Cosmetics, that belonged to my mom. And finally, a little book I read over and over in high school: Secrets of Loveliness, by Kay Thomas, that I got through Scholastic Book Services. Written in 1964. I had to laugh at the Vonda Kay van Dyke book. I remember when she was Miss America! (I am a lot older than you!) I actually had a little 45 record from her that encouraged girls to put their best foot forward at all times, and was very uplifting. I still remember her voice on that record! Thank you so much for this video. I will look for a couple of those you mentioned, and I hope you can find these that I have. I got them all at thrift stores, book sales, or rummage sales. (I found your Anita Colby book years ago at a book sale fundraiser, for a couple dollars! I got lucky!)
This was such a fun video! Please do the video on the vintage homemaking books!
Loved your book tour and would enjoy a video on your homemaking books. I am 64 and both my Grandmother and Mother bought me beauty, etiquette, etc. books growing up.
I wish I could post a picture of them but I have two magazines in excellent condition (a friend gave them to me-her grandmother had them). One is The Mother’s Magazine from 1915. It’s very cool. The pictures are crazy amazing. The second one is EveryWoman Magazine-The Woman’s Guide To Better Living from 1954. The pictures on front are of Mamie Eisenhower, The Dutchess of Windsor, Audrey Hepburn and Lucille Ball.
I also have Amy Vanderbilt’s New Complete Guide to Etiquette from 1952. Etiquette seems to definitely be a lost art anymore, sadly.
I love all of the old magazines and books, but these three are my favorites!
Such a fascinating video!! Please more videos about routines, books and journaling !! Thank you ❤
Love this video! I have a 1970’s-1980’s beauty book called ‘Adrien Arpel’s 3 Week Makeover Shapeover Beauty Program’ that I love to look through for all the daily beauty routine ideas. 💋
I laughed at the Arlene Dahl book review. Just a little trivia…She had six husbands but, most famously was married to another actor, Fernando Lamas. Her son is Lorenzo Lamas, who is also an actor. And his daughter and her granddaughter, Shayne Dahl Lamas, is known for winning the 12th season of ‘The Batchelor.’ 🌹
Love this! I have been searching for years for a vintage booklet I think put out by Family Circle, called Good Grooming for Girls. It had a black shiny soft cover and pink pages inside that had the best illustrations! I would love to own it again as I've lost it. If anyone has this, please comment!
Please do a video on Vintage shopping ❤
Arlene Francis was on What's My Line. You can find it on youtube. My daughter and I adore that show. Fascinating to see regular people fashion, jobs, and listening to how people spoke. There are also Fascinating behind the scenes stories related to the hosts.
What a fascinating video! Thank you for sharing your collection. I’ve been looking on eBay for BEAUTY BOOK. Right now it’s a little expensive. But I’m on the hunt for others!
Such a fun video! I'm 64, so I'm much older than you, and I think that I may have had that Diane von Furstenberg book. I remember buying one of her books when I was in college, and the cover looks familiar. Anyway, I vote for more videos on your vintage book collection. They also sound fascinating to me, including your vintage cookbooks!
First of all I love your ELVIS shirt 😎🤩😍I really enjoy vintage books as well… beauty, decor, cookbooks and entertaining books. I also love to find a vintage magazine as well. I even love the ads! I’d enjoy a show and tell video of your cooking and entertaining books.
As a beautician from the early 60’s this is my jam. Although I quit doing hair and nails many years ago I still have a love of hair, nails, makeup and all things beauty. I would look for vintage Max Factor Makeup book, they don’t sell much Max Factor Makeup in US but in my day it was Revlon and Max Factor in drug stores. Love your channel and please share more of your vintage books.
I went to the Emmys for 20 years until covid. The FIDM in downtown LA has a display of all the nominated costumes. One year in the back they had an exhibit of old sketches and fabric samples of original costumes from the 40s etc. They had makeup and brushes and all sorts of glorious things you would love. I don't know if it was a one time thing we only saw it once but you might could ask.
They had so many famous sketches of stars back in the day and so much history. You couldn't take photos in that area.
This made me so happy and your voice makes me so relaxed. I enjoyed the whole video. Thank-you so much! Xoxo ❤
Cool video! As a tween-teen I read through my Grandparents collection of LIFE magazines: every issue 1939-1945. The ads were my fave! TFS Charlotte 💖
Definitely want a future video on those books! 😀
I love this so much! I love thrifting beauty books and books in general. Magazines are also so wonderful 💜Vintage will always be treasures to enjoy in our homes. We love every little treasure we own. Also, your points of acknowledging the past concerns are absolutely respectable 💜 thank you💜Thank you for sharing 💐💜✨️ best regards
🥀 Miss. Lilly 🥀 P.S. we miss your planner vlogs and seasonal decor💜 also you look beautiful as always 💜💐👸
I saw this video and had to dig out my copy of Anita Colby’s beauty book!! I have a different edition. 4th printing from 1962!! Got it for $3 at a library book sale or thrift store - can’t remember.
Looking forward for weekly videos
Yes, more vintage book videos please! Such a fun idea!
I love this video , so interesting. I would love to find some of these books.
I have been hoping and waiting for you to post a beauty book vlog! YAY 🎉❤💋 this was so fun to watch and see your beautiful collection! What finds!!!
I already collect vintage cookbooks but I would love to start collecting vintage beauty books as well! Lovely video, thanks.☺
Love your hair scarf and matching lip! Did you ever watch the Marvelous Miss Maisel? I remember the show referencing old beauty tips and I always enjoyed that insight into the time period.
Loved the video! All the vintage content is appreciated! ❤
Thankyou for sharing your collection with us. ❤
As always wonderful and amazing
I love this! Would you consider making content teaching on some of the history more in-depth? It’d be so fun to learn from you, as you’re so passionate about it too.
Please do other vintage book collections like the health ones ! Loved the video!
love your collection, as a vintage lover myself I would love to find more vintage 1950s books.
I was so excited that I commented before I finished the video and bless you. Bless you, you are the great finder of amazing things. The book was the secrets of charm. As silly as it sounds, I can't tell you what this means to me. I've been looking for this book for 20 years. Thank you
Yay a girl after my own heart i collect these books too from the 1910s to 1980s
The art of being a girl was given to me by my father in the 60s. I can’t remember the author, she was an actress/singer. I believe she had something to do with Lady and the Tramp, like was the singer for the movie. The other one I had was Dance and be charming. Really an exercise book using ballet moves. Both books were form teenage girls.
I remember the Power’s Girls, everyone wanted to be one and there were a lot of Power charm schools. This is what I remember off the top of my head.
Wow what an interesting book collection. 👏thanks for sharing 👍
I ENJOYED THIS HOPE TO SEE MORE ON VINTAGE BOOKS FASHION PARTY HOMES ECT.I LOVE BOOKS
You literally just made my day with this video!! 🙌❤️❤️ Loved it!
I love this! More more more Please❣️
Please tell us more about other vintage books!
There was a book from my mother's childhood that I loved so much. It was purple and I think it was just called charm or the charm book. It had how to do makeup and clothes for different face shapes and hairstyles. I've been looking for it for years. I love your video and how knowledgeable you are. I would love to know if you have heard of this book given the limited information I still have.
Just started watching. Would love to see more on vintage homemaking books. I used to have "Natural Way to Super Beauty" in paperback (1970s) and I read it over and over til it fell apart. I'm new to your channel and look forward to binging. One issue - Firefox won't let me in your shop or your book site....just FYI.
I may be jumping the gun as you haven’t even shown them yet in the video but do they go into style and period care? How to care for yourself during your period? The products available? Etc
Also,,,it IS fun to write letters!
Did Max Factor have a book? I believe he helped with makeup even in the b&w film era where they’d wear green lipstick so it came off as “red” on film! And I also think he was one of the first to sell makeup to everyday women on a large scale.
Not vintage but a modern day Bible for beauty was from the 90s: Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin.
Do more makeup themed videos
When are you gonna do a planner video ❤❤🤞🏻🤞🏻
Sadly I could not find the handbook of beauty on Amazon nor in nearby library ❤
My mom at one time was an Avon lady. Avon was started by a mam.
Mmiss yoyr videos, please come back and post one
I may have missed it but what section would these be in a used bookstore?
Back then people drank more water and it was rain water .
