- Coming out of much heaviness and separation, on March 20, 2022, togetherness, joy and lots of energy erupted into the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk echoing the contagious jubilation of Jon Batiste’s song "Freedom".
When Jon Batiste released his song, he put a call out for people to send him videos of them singing or dancing to it. Here we answered his call.

Yes, we have freedom. Santa Cruz is like this. New and old hippies, nerds, people of all colors, college students. We love the boardwalk which has been there for over a century. Garish. Perhaps, but we all love the place. It also has one of the oldest and fun wooden roller coasters in the world. And what’s the problem with people having fun.
People of all colors? I saw mostly (only?) unattractive white women dancing. But then again, that is mostly Santa Cruz!

Things are a bit difficult for women here in the U.S. rt now . We have had a major set back in our rights. Seeing the joy ,and power in these women's hearts brought me to tears.
LOVED IT! Such joy. I was dancing in my chair watching and would have been dancing on the sidelines if I'd been there watching. Music is a way to share happiness.

When this randomly popped up on RUclips, I was excited to watch because 1)Jon Batiste and this song and 2) it’s at the Boardwalk-I lived in Santa Cruz for 12 years. But ALSO because, in addition to the ocean and hummingbirds, the thing I miss most about living in SC is my dance classes with Geena at Worldanz--I just knew she had to be involved with this, and sure enough, here she is! Bringing moves and spreading joy, as she does. Those classes were so cathartic and joyful for me-no judgement, all community. This video made me feel the same way. Good to see this dance community still thriving and great to see Geena dancing and smiling! Thank you for this ❤️

In the late 1980s, me and my girlfriend were visiting San Francisco, and we got invited to "perform" as "extras",....in a TV commercial being filmed. We were there anyway, enjoying coffee and pastries in an outdoor cafe, and all of a sudden we were asked to stay seated, & continue to act natural, while "some actual actors" walked among the tables. We were the "background" people, for about 30 minutes, and they did at least 5 or 6 "takes",....repeating their scene over and over until it worked. I think it was for a brand of sheer panty hose. There was a whole vignette: A handsome guy sees a pretty woman, they mock flirt,....she may have even done a little graceful jump at one point. It looked like a fun TV commercial. But it was SO cool, that we were in the background scenery. ( probably in soft focus or blurred) I was glad they said we could act natural, because I usually gesture with my hands when I am talking. And that was acceptable. I think we were in an iconic, landmark, outdoor cafe, too. We were sightseers on vacation and in our 30s.
