  • June 15, 1944 - 80 Years Ago Today. The Battle of Saipan was an amphibious assault launched by the United States against the Empire of Japan during the Pacific campaign of World War II - the Battle raged from Jun 15, 1944 - Jul 9, 1944.
The initial invasion triggered the Battle of the Philippine Sea, which effectively destroyed Japanese carrier-based airpower, and the battle resulted in the American capture of the island. Its occupation put the major cities of the Japanese home islands within the range of B-29 bombers, making them vulnerable to strategic bombing by the United States Army Air Forces. It also precipitated the resignation of Hideki Tōjō, the prime minister of Japan.

I'm sure that the Marines, and GI's who fought, and died on the island of Saipan in 1944 would never in their lifetimes considered what the US has become today in 2024 representative of those values which gave them the strength, and motivation which moved them forward during that month long battle..

I was there 20 years ago. Suicide cliff was sobering. Many Japanese memorials. Huge rocks and churning surf. So very sad. I saw the holes in the mountains made by the big guns. War is hell.

Dad's cousin was killed there. He was an Amtrak driver. Dad and his brother were to young to serve but I did 21 years in service. I think Korea is the only war nobody from my family fought in

Will this be a documentary or a movie? Also is it in English?

This is a documentary - filmed at the time using all original footage - it is in English, but subtitles might work (I don't know myself)

@@LionHeartFilmWorks thank you very much for your reply and for being so specific. Please do the same in your future posts descriptions section. My homeschooled five year old daughter, and I love your channel. She arts anything daddy likes and she’s learning history at the same time. Keep up the good work.

No. The Japanese army's assault scene in the second half is from a Japanese movie.

Why didnt the Marines invent better innovative weapons for the same old problem? Ship shelling only makes holes that tanks cant climb across. A lot of men died in mince meat tactics
