I only want to thank you Matt for sharing with us all these lessons, including the ones from previous planes. By far, interactive lessons are my favorite part of DCS. From the first video lessons on Lock-On, years ago, to the latest ones like these from the F/A-18C. Thanks!!
hey matt, i noticed a small typo in the last paragraph during 5:19 . it says "... weapon is armed, the SHOOT due will appear...". just wanna let you know
I am wondering similar. Why wouldnt you want to set the warhead small target when you could always set it to large and if the target is a mig 29 then set the rcs to small.
Shouldn't the diamond be considered Bogey? Cause in game it's not always hostile and a friendly can display a diamond as well. This information could prevent a lot of TK's. Or will the finished IFF system 100% show a diamond as hostile? "A Bogey becomes a bandit when it's identified as a Hostile" Or is that saying totally incorrect?
IFF won't show you that a target is hostile. At best it tells you that it's a friendly or an unknown. You'd still need another form of identification (AWACS/GCI, visually, or even RWR) to upgrade the contact to hostile.
@@WinchesterDelta1 I wonder why there is no more the 'declare' item in the AWACS radio menu? that was earlier my favorite way to check.. anyone know what happened to it?
Hi Wags, question! A large RCS configuration make shorter times to pitbull than smaller RCS configuration at the same distance, velocity and altitude ? Thanks for the answer!! Regardss
Maybe it's just me, but several times in this video, the locked target aspect shown on the HUD and right DDI shows as flying away from the Hornet, but still it closes in range over time... Whats up with that? Is that just while in active pause mode?
im not sure if the aim120 even lofts, but i am 100% sure that the aim 7mh does. iirc the logic for the 7m is borked so there is no reason to loft it. its effective against cranking as the missile still has energy, and afaik the aim 54 also lofts. the best way to beat an aim 7mh lofting at you is to either notch it or crank it then raise alt, as it wont be able to climb after the crank
This is an old post but in case anyone has the same question. The B is older obviously and has less range and I believe less maneuverability. The C model, the C-7 variant I’m pretty sure, has better fusing, range, and homing. I’m not 100% but I believe it has slightly less maneuverability due to the shorter fins. I could be wrong on that one though.
The manual for the Hornet is located here (adjust where needed for your own PC and installation): C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Doc It is long, but very well organized and there are a ton of screenshots and labels to walk you through anything you want to learn about. It isn't final and there are some errors here and there, but it's still in development like the F/A-18 itself.

F/A-18C new cockpit textures? This beautiful.

Fixed thanks
Its time to update this a bit after all the new goodies came out :)
does RCS and target size selection actually do something significant ? I always left it to default settings and didn't really encounter any problems

I always switched to large thinking planes are kinda...large
sik59rt I’m going to assume the index is calibrated for planes (unless you’ve recently shot a car with an amraam)

Indeed. That's why i made a comment about it. Cause Wags considers the diamond directly a hostile in this video.

I cannot seem to lock the target as the target was not moving from the top of my radar scanner. When I press lock it just resets the slew cursor
Yes. I have that same problem. I can't get out of the visual mode.
Found the solution. The slew sensor was set to real in setting where you have to click in and hold to slew

1:50 There is no "STEP" indication when I follow this guide.
great work again Matt, gj
What does S Mode / MAN AUTO do on the WS screen? Can’t seem to find an answer anywhere and I didn’t hear anything about it in this vid.
Good to see that HARM's are coming soon! I can't seem to find the correct version of the player guide, where can I find it Matt?
C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Doc
👌 Excellent work ED. Loocking forward to 5th Dez.
Who is the man behind this very pleasant voice?
Will the briefing also available in russian language?
Subtitles will be localized
best part in air to air weapons
What about tws mode? Will there be a different lesson on using the aim-120 with track while scan mode?
Yes, later in early access

Because the player aircraft is in active pause mode.
@@MattWagner Ah I see, I had my suspicions, thanks for confirming.
Just a quick question Mr. Wagner, is there any plans for the Delta?
Not at this time.
arent the missiles designed to go upwards to gain/preserve energy for long range engagements? Not sure.
last shot lofted some...

I don't remember hearing it in the video, correct me if i'm wrong but what is the difference between the AIM-120B and the C variant ?
SparxOne C has more range

how the hell do i get to that radar screen? I can't even step through my missiles

This is a hostile target, so why is there a Box? Shouldnt it be a diamond?
Just flew this bird in VR for the first time. Holy maloney its incredible.
Great Vid As always. What is the S MODE ?
An item to be removed
Nice :)
How does changing the RCS and Size effect the missile/radar and is it modelled?
