  • Help! My DeWalt miter saw stand won't open or close.
HELP! My Dewalt miter saw stand won't open or close! The Saw Dust Dude can help you out my friend! I purchased my Dewalt 726 miter saw stand back in 2016. It has been a real work horse and a money maker with little to no problems.
However, one day it would not close or collapse at the end of the day. So on the job site I had to solve this problem. In this video, I focus on the cable issues that might pop up, which cables won't adjust and which cables you can adjust! And in this video you will learn the "Jim Method"
My first video on "Help! My DeWalt miter stand won't close"
    • HELP! My Dewalt miter ...
The Second Video: • Help! My Dewalt miter ...
Good luck and thanks for watching, leave a comment and thanks again!

I wish I would have found this video before this past weekend. Got the new stand for my birthday and pulled my new F150 out, assembled the stand, placed the saw centered and it would not go down. Worked for hours trying. Gave up for the night and left my new truck in the driveway. Sunday I was almost at the point of throwing it in the truck and returning it when my wife came out to help. She said remove the saw. She noticed the right locking dog ear was not dis-engaging the same as the left. With the adjuster all the way out we decided to do exactly what your video shows creating a longer throw for the bicycle cable. Unlocked and went right down. She was kind enough to simply turn and walk back in the house without saying a word.

Right out of the box, assembly was easy. And the stand opened to working height with no problem. But it would not go back down. I tried the Jim Method too, and at first it didn't work. Then I thought, what the heck, I'll spray lubricant in every possible nook and cranny of that mechanism. Voila! It finally worked, but still not as smoothly as one would wish or have expected. Don't know whether either of my steps would've worked without the other. It's a shame Dewalt doesn't rectify the design to eliminate the problem so many people have. And if their experience is like mine, it takes them quite a number of frustrating hours of trying to figure out what's wrong and looking for an answer. Thanks to everyone!

11/17/2023- Followed your instructions sent by Jim. The DWX-726 will now close for me. No cable adjustments, just swapped the locations as you and Jim prescribed. Perhaps the people who originally assembled these at Dewalt did it backwards. Thanks to Jim, you and RUclips.

I tried all of the suggestions online and eventually followed Jim's solution to swap the slots into which the two cables feed at the latch. The top slot and top screw on the latch extend father back when you push the latch to open. This was a simple fix with a Phillips screw driver and small open face wrench. This fixed my problem - thx :)

I'm on my second stand and I just told myself straight to the trash and just purchased a rigid stand , I'm so sick of DeWalt and their shitty tools , true story .......when I first started my business I bought and used Ryobi (light green models) and as time went on I decided better tools would be best , so I bought DeWalt .......every DeWalt tool has broken and I still have all my Ryobi tools ........that says a lot. Probably due to me getting them from Home Depot and we all know DeWalt made their tools cheaper to sell at these types of stores.......obviously I'm not a satisfied customer ........on a good note found your channel so all is not lost , thanks for the content....

Got my DWX726 rolling saw stand, assembled same and son of a diddly, it won't fold up. Poked around found I wasn't the only one Found this and used the cable reassignment method and it worked. Makes me wonder if this isn't a manufacturing problem. Anyway, the thing works now. There was no way I was going to box that thing up and return it, the box came via UPS, and looked like it was shot out of a canon into the forest and hit every tree! Regardless, this was helpful.
